2714227, NFL Draft 2020
Posted by will_5198, Wed Apr-22-20 03:34 PM
I'm hoping for some Minnesota 2003-time-running-out-fuckery during this virtual event. I think it's an above average year for draft talent, but I haven't done an exhaustive analysis beyond the CFB season.

2. Washington
3. Detroit
4. NY Giants
5. Miami
6. LA Chargers
7. Carolina
8. Arizona
9. Jacksonville
10. Cleveland
11. NY Jets

13. San Francisco (trade from Indianapolis / DeForest Buckner)
14. Tampa Bay
15. Denver
16. Atlanta
17. Dallas
18. Miami (trade from Pittsburgh / Minkah Fitzpatrick)
19. Las Vegas (trade from Chicago / Khalil Mack)
20. Jacksonville (trade from Los Angeles Rams / Jalen Ramsey)
21. Philadelphia
22. Minnesota (trade from Buffalo / Stefon Diggs)
23. New England

2714237, thinking there's gonna be an unprecedented amount of wagering

on draft prop bets. people are desperate out here.
2714245, Anybody pick a qb over Tua gonna regret it
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Apr-23-20 12:16 PM
ESPN talking about fucking Herbert is about to go over him cause of the injury. Stop it.

2714248, yesterday, Dan Orlovsky compared Tua to Herbert...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Apr-23-20 12:47 PM
by comparing a prime cut steak to Steakums, lol...I damn near died laughing in my car.
2714249, RE: Anybody pick a qb over Tua gonna regret it
Posted by allStah, Thu Apr-23-20 12:53 PM
I disagree. If he turns into a great player, cool. However, in sports you go with what is close to being a sure thing, and that is not Tua.

His talent is not the question mark. His health is. He is highly injury prone, and is a very brittle athlete, so there is a huge possibility that he will not be healthy enough to success in the Pros.

You are clearly taking a chance. For instance, I'm a huge poker guy. Let's say on the board is Ac,Jd,10s,9h, and in my hand I got 6h and 7c. And I'm going up against a guy who has Ah and 2c. It's basically an 80 to 90 percent chance that guy is going to win that pot. The only way that I can win is for there to be an 8 on the river, which would give me a straight over his Ace pair....do I gamble on that and go all in? or do I fold? It's simple. I fold. I will have many more hands to make money instead of putting it all on the line on a hand that I don't have, hoping for things to work in my favor.

That's Tua. The chances of him getting seriously injured is a lot higher than him going on to be a great QB. And even he does pan out, a team and coach will still have many more picks and drafts to get great talent.

It's not like Brady is the only one winning super bowls. brees, rodgers, both mannings, foles, Ben, have also won.....so there will be other great QB prospects without the health concerns.

I actually don't understand the hype and news around it. ...just to sell media.

2714252, I'm with you. He should be the 3rd pick
Posted by Ceej, Thu Apr-23-20 01:28 PM
2714257, RE: I'm with you. He should be the 3rd pick
Posted by allStah, Thu Apr-23-20 02:21 PM
3rd pick after already having 5 Surgeries?

You would take that chance with such a high draft pick? I could see if he falls late, or into the second round and you take that pick.

2714258, yes. most of these qbs dont pan out for shit anyway
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Apr-23-20 02:25 PM
may as well swing for the fences. and if he breaks then draft another one. titans aint had a qb worth a shit since mcnair and i'd risk it all for Tua.
2714296, Phins have a ton of picks tho
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Apr-24-20 08:15 AM
Definitely worth the risk.
2714253, So which pick gets their Zoom/Instalive feed bombed?

I know not all of these folks gonna have the best security protocols in place.

2714260, If Goodell had any balls he would have his fam boo him at the start
Posted by Ceej, Thu Apr-23-20 03:29 PM
To make him REALLY feel at home.

Would be a total face turn.
2714264, I officially like Roger now, he did just that lol

2714261, Can't wait to see what BOB has in store for my Texans tonight.
Posted by dagu, Thu Apr-23-20 03:52 PM
Oh wait...
2714262, Had the bears waited.
Posted by allStah, Thu Apr-23-20 04:43 PM
They could have had them a talented TE in OJ Howard and a healthier QB.

Gronk going to Tampa means they have to unload one of their current TEs. More than likely, it is going to be OJ. Instead of the bears going with a regressing TE, in Jimmy Graham, they could have made a move for OJ.

Secondly, instead of the move they made for Foles, they could have made a move for David Carr. Oakland are looking to move him based on current reports.
2714298, Is Howard that good?
Posted by legsdiamond, Fri Apr-24-20 08:17 AM
Seems like he regressed and I was never high on him to begin with because most
of his highlights at Bama were due to broken coverages.
2714266, MIA future is set at QB
Posted by ne_atl, Thu Apr-23-20 07:56 PM
2714267, why was gettleman putting on a mask while alone in his basement?

how they lost at home was just a pure disaster and all on him

holy shit, I just went back and looked at that roster:

2714277, It reminds me so much of Coopers 98’ game vs MSU
Posted by guru0509, Thu Apr-23-20 10:08 PM
But I was in 8th grade at the time and not an Ohio State fan so 2015 burned alotttt more

2714279, '98 MSU was just a freakish second half
Posted by 3xKrazy, Thu Apr-23-20 10:15 PM
the entire 2015 season was kind of a clusterfuck.

basically warriner/beck as OC was a disaster.

cardale jones went on the beanie and boom podcast awhile back and really went in on the whole situation. worth listening to.
2714288, Oh shit I didn’t even know they had a podcast

I’m about to listen thanks

2714271, I like this OT class a lot.

2714284, what did you think of tristan wirfs? I never watched Iowa play
Posted by dillinjah, Thu Apr-23-20 11:34 PM
2714294, I watched a lot of Big 11 games pre-2019 draft
Posted by will_5198, Fri Apr-24-20 08:07 AM
and I noticed Iowa's LT was pretty damn good -- I was shocked to find out he was a true sophomore at the time. his measurables are elite; I like him better than Wills and he has the potential to be better than Thomas without the lower floor of Becton.
2714285, REALLY GLAD THE LIONS TOOK A DB
Posted by Rjcc, Fri Apr-24-20 12:52 AM
even if he seems promising

www.engadgethd.com - the other stuff i'm looking at
2714295, I don't really see a corner worth the third pick.
Posted by will_5198, Fri Apr-24-20 08:10 AM
high bust factor and even an elite corner is not going to change your defense/offense as much as an elite DL or OT

Detroit was probably stuck without trade options though
2714272, Yessir...welcome, CeeDee!!
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Apr-23-20 09:33 PM
.
2714273, wow, I would've never imagined Damon Arnette
Posted by will_5198, Thu Apr-23-20 09:35 PM
as a first-rounder last spring. he looked borderline draftable in 2018. not a top-20 pick to me even after 2019, but Hafley coming into the program changed his career.
2714275, yep. made himself a lot of money by returning for his senior year.
Posted by 3xKrazy, Thu Apr-23-20 09:38 PM
2714283, Raider fan here. What’s the lowdown on him?
Posted by natenate101, Thu Apr-23-20 11:34 PM
Seemed like the pick shocked everybody, very Raiders-like to reach. Smh. But reading up he seems talented though maybe lacks love for the game? Hope the guys can be a starter at RCB opposite Mullen.
2714297, too rich for me
Posted by will_5198, Fri Apr-24-20 08:16 AM
first-round corners should have unique measurables to me, because that's a position built on athletic profiles. Arnette doesn't scream out elite in any category: 6'0 but with only 30" arms (below average) and 4.56 speed.

his technique in 2018 was "turrible"; just held like crazy and got stuck in all the awkward positions a corner should never be in.

caveat, I didn't watch him super closely in 2019 -- casually it seemed like he improved a ton after Ohio State got rid of their poor co-defensive coordinator set-up in 2018.

Mayock's thing seems to be reaching for whatever player he wants and not really caring about any perceived value, however.
2714307, no def not true...super fiery and competitive but can lose his temper
Posted by 3xKrazy, Fri Apr-24-20 10:05 AM
>But reading up he seems talented though maybe
>lacks love for the game?

just prob not the prototype physically for a first round db as will said.
2714280, GreenBay wild for this

2714301, anyone else besides Gruden have Ruggs over Jeudy&CeeDee?
Posted by HecticHavoc, Fri Apr-24-20 09:18 AM
Ruggs basketball highlight video is insane. he was really impressive at Bama, and his teammates said he was the hardest working player on the team, but i didn't expect him to go first.
2714302, depends on what your receiver group already looks like
Posted by will_5198, Fri Apr-24-20 09:27 AM
if I already had a Michael Thomas or Adam Thielen, I'd want Ruggs.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ruggs was #1 on San Francisco's board, and they moved down a spot once Oakland took him. an outside deep threat seems to be what Shanahan is missing right now.
2714305, looked like he was playing with a jetpack on
Posted by 3xKrazy, Fri Apr-24-20 10:03 AM
>Ruggs basketball highlight video is insane
2714308, i did. i saw all of bama games and most of OUs.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Fri Apr-24-20 10:09 AM
Ruggs is a truly truly elite athlete with elite ball skills. I just hope they have somebody that can get him the rock

Jeudy and Lamb will be solid pros but Ruggs got some shit you cant teach.
edit: and the work ethic to nail the things you can.
2714323, They needed a burner to match their possession receiver.
Posted by allStah, Fri Apr-24-20 02:23 PM
They wanted a Tyreke Hill....and they got one.
2714306, LOVE that the Niners went D-Line with the #13
Posted by Amritsar, Fri Apr-24-20 10:04 AM
stick with the formula that got us here

Buckner is THAT DUDE.

But this cap relief is going to help us keep a lot more players than if we had re-signed Buckner.

We essentially got for him:

•Kinlaw •4th •whoever we extend with that cap space

That’s not bad
2714312, Baker Mayfield is in No Excuses Territory just about.

I still don't think there will be a 2020 season but when the Browns play again, it's gonna be flames
2714324, RE: NFL Draft 2020
Posted by allStah, Fri Apr-24-20 02:39 PM
Packers with a marvelous QB pick to take care of their future. Kid can just sit back for 2-3 years and suck up the information, and become another great GB QB. And rodgers can get another 1-2 years. He stated that he can see the 18th hole coming, so I don't expect him to try to do a Brady or Farve and hold on too long.

The draft is so receiver heavy, packers could afford to not draft one in the first round. Bears, Vikings, Lions still have serious QB issues, while the packers bring in their next great QB.

To my Bears, this is how you solidify your QB position.

Dak will have no excuses. He now has 5 serious weapons. 2 talented Rbs, and 3 outstanding receivers.

Cincinnati has mad offensive weapons, kid should be able to put up some numbers immediately.
2714331, Now the bears have 10 TEs on their roster.
Posted by allStah, Fri Apr-24-20 07:13 PM
We would have been better off taking one of the top running backs that is still on the board. We have a history of having great RBs, but Montgomery is a hugggge question mark. Taylor and Dobbins are still on the board

And its not that Cole isn't good. He is, but the fact that the bears picked up Jimmy, it just makes no sense. Graham should have never been acquired.

We actually need a CB as the biggest need......okay they just drafted Jaylon Johnson. I like the kid. They are just questions about his injury history. They tackled a need. so I'm happy.

Now at this point...we could snag a safety or sneak and get a good RB...or even take a shot at Jalen Hurts
2714332, RE: NFL Draft 2020
Posted by allStah, Fri Apr-24-20 07:28 PM
Hamler and Jeudy in Denver with Lock? That could be some explosive stuff.

Gotta give Elway some credit here...

2714333, Hurts in Phily. didn't see that one coming.
Posted by dillinjah, Fri Apr-24-20 07:43 PM
.
2714335, :/
Posted by will_5198, Fri Apr-24-20 08:40 PM
I liked Dobbins better than Taylor. Dobbins didn't test, but he has more juice to me -- Taylor is an alleyway runner and a little tepid when the bodies are flying. plus Taylor's fumble rate is obscenely high and he's a zero in the passing game right now.
2714336, Someone check on EDP.
Posted by Kira, Fri Apr-24-20 08:52 PM
Since we drafting brothas to replace white qbs down the line... Drew get me a replacement for Baker! Who is the best black QB left in the draft?
2714338, RE: Someone check on EDP.
Posted by allStah, Fri Apr-24-20 11:24 PM
Tyler fucking Huntley.

crazy accuracy, athleticism

weakness: arm strength ,durability, size . He is basically 6'2, but a lean 6'2. Probably would make a good back up....but black QBs have yet to do well in Ohio.
2714337, RE: NFL Draft 2020
Posted by allStah, Fri Apr-24-20 11:21 PM
Jacob Eason goes undrafted. Wow. 6'6 big strong arm. good pocket mobility, not a running QB. But 6'6! Can see over the entire fucking defensive line.

Bears take a chance...please

HE is going to be a big steal to whomever gets him.
2714340, he doesn't know how to play quarterback.
Posted by will_5198, Sat Apr-25-20 12:35 AM
2714343, RE: he doesn't know how to play quarterback.
Posted by allStah, Sat Apr-25-20 09:55 AM
Most rookie QBs don’t. That’s what the pros are for. But dude had a 64 percent completion rate , and threw for 23 TDS 8 ints.

Not bad. But I like his size and strong arm( can’t coach that)...all the other stuff can be corrected. Reminds me of Kurt Warner who wasn’t drafted and not even considered for a back up role.

2714346, lol. fucking hell.*
Posted by will_5198, Sat Apr-25-20 12:06 PM

*Colts fan.
2714347, RE: lol. fucking hell.*
Posted by allStah, Sat Apr-25-20 12:26 PM
Bam! Lol

See your team even know what’s up. You might have to eat your words while rooting for him.

Seriously, that’s a great pick for the colts. They will have a young QB under contract for a while. Rivers and jacoby will not be under contract after this season. Let those two battle it out for this season, and Eason take over in 2021. Hell of a pick up.

2714341, eason sucks
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sat Apr-25-20 01:11 AM
2714342, Kinda amazing how those 2 fiesta bowl drops from Dobbins
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Apr-25-20 09:48 AM
influenced the entire narrative about him as a player and more specifically his supposed weakness as a receiver.

It's the first thing every analyst mentioned about him...'those 2 drops in the fiesta bowl means he can't catch.'

He's actually always had great hands catching the ball. If you're gonna knock him, his aversion to pass pro would be his true weakness. The pass catching stuff is pretty dumb.

The two drops in the fiesta bowl SUCKED but hardly a significant sample size.

He was unstoppable as a runner in that game and would've ran for 250+ had he not gotten injured. And even then came back in and gutted out and played as well as possible. Dude is a warrior and should do well for the ravens.
2714348, you think that affected his actual stock?
Posted by will_5198, Sat Apr-25-20 12:37 PM
or just recency bias from the media

i can't speak on nfl gm's obviously...
2714345, Gettleman doing work!
Posted by DJR, Sat Apr-25-20 10:34 AM
People can say what they want but he’s drafted pretty well in NY, and he’s off to a good start this year.

Got two players who are ready to start from week 1, and are potential stars, with very high floors, and likely got a bookend pair of tackles to protect Jones and clear holes for Barkley for many years to come.

Fans/media have been weird as hell about him the whole time as if he was the one who picked Erick Flowers and Eli Apple. Nah. He’s picked Barkley, Jones, and Dexter Lawrence. 3 for 3 with first rounders coming into this year. Let him cook.
2714349, RE: NFL Draft 2020
Posted by allStah, Sat Apr-25-20 12:39 PM
Fucking bears man!

Could have picked up Eason and still got our CB...but we pick up another damn TE!
Ryan Pace has to go, man.

Both Trubisky and Foles could be gone after the end of the season. Foles is on one year deal and Tru is going to suck. Plus Foles ain’t going to finish a season, too brittle.

2714353, quite the slide for Donovan peoples jones...yeesh
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Apr-25-20 03:03 PM
he's a round 1 pick if he chooses any other school
2714359, you think?
Posted by will_5198, Sat Apr-25-20 10:42 PM
I know Michigan hasn't developed offensive skill position talent in...forever, but I was never impressed with his on-field showings.

for a guy with some nice testing numbers, he only moves well in straight lines. I don't remember much snap to his routes (hell, half the time he barely knew where he was on the field -- I guess that's to your coaching point).
2714375, yep. he seemed disinterested most of the time.

Posted by will_5198, Sun Apr-26-20 01:02 PM
he's not that good. even discounting his average on-field performance and numbers, his actual physical talent isn't unique among NFL quarterbacks (mediocre size-arm-accuracy). that's the reason he was drafted where he was.
