2711996, XFL 2.0
Posted by WarriorPoet415, Sat Feb-08-20 05:18 PM
First game up! DC Defenders face former Skins coach and the Seattle Dragons.

This actually has potential and I like the kick-off format. If the league survives a couple of seasons financially, I can see the NFL adopting some of the rules.

Not sure how I feel about the live mic on the coach while they are calling plays. That’s gonna be mumbo jumbo to most viewers.

The talent is there, but definitely a step below the NFL, obviously. But not painfully so most of the time and that’s a good thing.

Definitely great that’s it’s not as gimmicky as its first iteration and that’s its wrestling promotion roots are pretty much invisible.

Y’all tuning in?

Nfl is definitely going to steal the coach to announcers communications. That is dope. Like a coach can call a play, it fucks up, and they can ask the coach what he was thinking on that play. However, it should be limited.

The play calling comms have to go, like you said just a bunch of mumbo plays that no one cares about.

Ahmad Dixon is going to get some nfl calls.

He can hit.
2711999, Austin Proehl deserves an NFL training camp invite

Is it me or do the DC Defenders perform better than the Washington pro team?

Cardale was out there cooking.

Of course Seattle would have a white running back.

This was a surprisingly entertaining game.

That 24 second play clock is a little bit too fast. Put it at 30 seconds and I think that would be perfect. Every down moves like a 2 min drill, doesn’t give you time to enjoy the previous play.
2712023, First game was excellent

There’s still speed on the field at this level. I was really surprised.

And what’s that you say? An exciting football team in DC? I’ll stay tuned!
2712046, I watched on offensive series. I’m good

2712047, seems like a good opportunity for Black QBs if nothing else
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Mon Feb-10-20 09:12 AM
PJ Walker on the Houston team looked better than a lot of these scrub ass white QBs they run out year after year in the nfl.
2712049, lol @ people acting too good to watch this

2712065, thank you

this stuff was fun
2712051, Tampa Bay looked terrible...

Defense kept giving up big plays to NY. DBs kept getting burned.

And I thought I remembered Aaron Murray being legit at Georgia. I was thinking he might come out and show me something. I know it's only the 1st game but he looked pretty damn bad.

I might go check them out at their 1st homestand. I'm hoping they work out the kinks and improve.

But generally, it was fine. Some of the new rules look like they have potential to make things interesting.

Respect but can't watch this shit without thinking of Trump

Wish the AAAF had been set up better.
2712066, haha wtf what does Trump have to do with the XFL

2712078, This was announced during the heigh of the Kaep/kneeling controversy
Posted by Oak27, Tue Feb-11-20 12:06 PM
One of the questions asked during the big press conference Vince held to officially announce the league was coming back he was asked if players would be required to stand for the anthem and he basically gave an answer that they would. The XFL immediately became an "alternative" to the NFL in that racists had a league they could support that didn't have any of those pesky troop disrespect-ers on the field.

Haha. Them NFL ratings is up so somebody lyin (again). Kap has prolly gotten Hugh Jackson style bad job offers and he's not willing to do that but it's not like New England is gonna throw Tommy out of town to give Kap a Kirk Cousins contract. And Andy has Mahomes so nothing doing there either.

I'm more ticked that Pep Hamilton has to go to the XFL to get a gig in the same sport where Adam Gase gets byke to byke gigs in the same division while the list of players who ball out after being out of his crosshairs grows and grows.
2712074, shout out to Cardale

2712101, how on Earth did Pepper Johnson get fired...
Posted by Dstl1, Wed Feb-12-20 01:28 PM
as DC for the LA Wildcats, after one game???? Did PJ Walker really get that man fired?
2712239, TB vs Seattle was a defensive slugfest
Posted by Kira, Sat Feb-15-20 11:35 PM
Matt McGloin is a diva QB without the talent.

Cardale continues his streak of solid performances.

The best takeaway from today's games was the return of stout defenses. Seattle vs TB was a great game.
2712575, DC got chumped up this week.

Cardale- good leadership on the sidelines though. But damn, what a blowout.

2713970, XFL suspends operations, lays off employees and has no plans for 2021 season

XFL suspends operations, lays off employees and has no plans for 2021 season
Kevin Seifert and Field Yates
11:46 AM CT

The XFL suspended operations Friday morning, and multiple sources told ESPN that the league has laid off nearly all of its staff -- a handful of executives remain employed -- and currently has no plans to return in 2021.

The XFL is owned by WWE CEO/president Vince McMahon and Alpha Entertainment. In a statement, the WWE said: "Given the uncertainty of the current environment, the XFL has suspended operations and is evaluating next steps."

The XFL canceled its season last month after five games as part of a nationwide shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, pledging to return next year.

But XFL COO Jeffrey Pollack changed course Friday, conducting a 10-minute conference call to inform employees of the news.

Commissioner Oliver Luck, hired in 2018 to guide the most ambitious spring football league in decades, did not speak on the call. It was not immediately clear if he is still with the league.

According to a prominent former XFL staffer who was on the call, Pollack stopped short of saying the league was going out of business. But the strong implication was clear. "It's done," the staffer said. "It's not coming back."

There was no immediate comment from the league.

St. Louis Battlehawks receiver L'Damian Washington was among those reacting to the league's decision on social media.

Before you get one win, you gotta take a thousand losses !

— PJ Walker (@pjwalker_5) April 10, 2020

McMahon was making his second foray into professional football. His rowdy 2001 version of the XFL also folded after one year.

McMahon pivoted 180 degrees for XFL 2.0, asking Luck to create a serious football league that would market a new version of the game while avoiding direct competition with the NFL. Luck led a group of staffers through two years of product development, establishing a series of innovations -- from its new kickoff alignment to its three-tiered extra point structure -- that caught the eye of multiple members of the NFL competition committee.

XFL staffers believed that the league would resume play in 2021. Players had previously been told they would be paid through the end of the regular season, which was scheduled to end this weekend.

The XFL is the second spring football league in as many years to suspend operations before completing its first and final season, albeit for much different reasons. The Alliance of American Football (AAF) ran out of money in 2019 and closed after eight weeks of play. The XFL might be the first pro sports league to fall victim to the economic crisis caused by the global pandemic.
2713971, spring pro football will never work*.

not unless the NFL decides they want to sponsor their own league...and then, maybe.

*a NFL season postponement to spring due to pandemic not included.
