2711421, Is Eli Manning a HOF’er?
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Dec-31-69 07:00 PM
I didn’t think he was but I guess they’re running out of things to talk about in Miami...

Poll question: Is Eli Manning a HOF’er?

Poll result (20 votes)
Yes (9 votes)Vote
No (11 votes)Vote

2711422, he will be 100%
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Jan-29-20 07:50 PM
But the fact that the talking heads feel like they gotta argue and chastise folks into believing is is proof enough that he shouldn’t be

He is going to get in because of his name, and due to the current era of perception.

But like what Deion Sanders stated : I don’t know what a Hall of famer is anymore. It used to be that a hall of famer was a player who defined or redefined a position. Eli was none of those things. He played great twice over a two month span. But his whole body of work was average at best.

Should I pass to the next grade if I only excel during 1 month of the school year?

2711440, Is he?.. hell no. Will he get in?.. you know he will.
Posted by Beezo, Thu Jan-30-20 07:27 AM
Prime speaking the absolute truth on the HOF issue.
2711448, ^^^
Posted by smutsboy, Thu Jan-30-20 09:48 AM
100%

In reality, Eli is at best a 2nd ballot HOFer

He will get in on the first ballot because he was quarterback in two super bowls where no single player deserved MVP so he got it by default.

2711444, 2 rings + 2 SB MVPs = Yes.
Posted by bentagain, Thu Jan-30-20 09:26 AM
Dumbest debate I’ve heard in awhile

Only question left to ask...will his bust have the Eli face?
2711445, Not to mention the most important factor, his last name
Posted by T Reynolds, Thu Jan-30-20 09:28 AM
2711451, its the only factor. breh was bang average most of his career.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Jan-30-20 09:53 AM
2711459, you can be great with average stats
Posted by T Reynolds, Thu Jan-30-20 10:27 AM
you can be a flash in the pan with outstanding stats
2711465, but he wasnt great tho.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Jan-30-20 11:34 AM
dont get me wrong i like eli but he just isnt HOF material. if it has to be debated and forced this much, you just dont belong.
2711475, He was great. Not statistically or body-language wise
Posted by T Reynolds, Thu Jan-30-20 01:04 PM
but he showed up to work everyday and goddamn it we will recognize him for it

2711522, 2 rings, 2 SB MVPs, 210 consecutive starts
Posted by bentagain, Fri Jan-31-20 08:28 AM
Those are stats, and they are ELIte

2711447, was he ever at any point in his career considered a top 5 QB ?
Posted by ThaTruth, Thu Jan-30-20 09:31 AM
2711446, Sorry dude, huge sports market rode with him way longer than
Posted by T Reynolds, Thu Jan-30-20 09:30 AM
they should have off the strength of his heroics on the path to two super bowls

plus his work off the field and always being a team / organization first guy who didn't have a single mark on his record.

he FOR SURE is HoF bound
2711450, Dude beat the Patriots twice in SB’s
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Jan-30-20 09:52 AM
Yes. He is getting in.

2711452, I feel like Frank Gore is similar, when you hear his name you don't...
Posted by ThaTruth, Thu Jan-30-20 09:55 AM
necessarily think HOF until you realize he's the 3rd all-time leading rusher with a slim outside shot at Payton at #2.

I think its mainly because the majority of his prime was on losing teams and he never made first team All-Pro once.
2711519, Frank is way better
Posted by josephmurf2384, Fri Jan-31-20 06:21 AM
and was a much better player on shitty teams.
2711523, waaaay better
Posted by smutsboy, Fri Jan-31-20 09:35 AM
there's no comparison
2711453, A 'Manning' with 2 SB wins against the NFL pyrite standard
Posted by Dr Claw, Thu Jan-30-20 10:00 AM
with two MVPs to go along side it, his tenure with the Giants (another charter franchise)... I don't see why he would not be in the Hall.

Sure, his stats are kind of funny, Giants fans started hating him and his E-Lies at the end of his career, and he ended his career right at .500, but CMON. He's going in.

This is from a Prime Smurf Hater.
2711455, I'd love to see honest and open Giants fans
Posted by Numba_33, Thu Jan-30-20 10:07 AM
respond to this; reason being that my memories of this dude being a resident of NYC but not a Giants fan aren't the sunniest and most favorable. I've seen this dude cost the Giants so many regular season games, it's insane. But I'm not a Giants fan and gave up watching football due to the Kaepernick nonsense, so my words don't hold too much weight.
2711456, Giants ruined the last 6-7 years of Eli’s career with TRASH OLines
Posted by DJR, Thu Jan-30-20 10:15 AM
Blowing 1st round draft picks on Erick Flowers, Eli Apple, David Wilson unfortunately getting a career ending injury, etc. They’ve also had one of the worst defenses in the league in most of the years since ‘11.

The organization has done a horrific job since the last Super Bowl. None of that was on Eli.
2711460, ^^^^
Posted by T Reynolds, Thu Jan-30-20 10:28 AM
we had some shit luck and terrible draft classes. never built a team through the draft, the turnover was comical really, and tried successfully only once to fix the issue in free agency, only to be surprised somehow that big budget players that are brought in like mercenaries under a weak, incapable coach stepping in after a power vacuum left by a micro-managing, exacting old-school field general type would slowly defect and create a poisonous, decidedly non-team-first environment that would turn off both players and fans. The lone lights in all of that were the steady presence of Eli who never once complained and toed the company line even when scapegoated and disrespected by a feeble nincompoop who never coached again, and a problematic virtuoso, a misunderstood ultimate 'Me' guy who continues to unnecessarily make waves and draw unwanted attention in Cleveland, Ohio, and was probably made greater by the presence of the former.

*takes deep breath*

IN CONCLUSION

in conclusion

Eli, while I screamed his name in anger in excess of 1000 times after a stupid throw, can not be made to bear the brunt of his own years of ineptitude.

Gotta set a guy up to succeed, is all I'm saying
2711471, Also the giants defense is the reason why those SB teams were so great.
Posted by allStah, Thu Jan-30-20 12:08 PM
Manning’s job was not to make mistakes, and just to manage the game. That’s it.

This is not a hard assessment. He does not have hall of fame individual numbers and he does not have hall of fame team numbers ( wins/losses). And that is what the hall of fame is about.

He didn’t redefine the position.

If you were to translate his football career to baseball career , he wouldn’t even be on the ballot.

2711513, Giants defense stunk most of the season in 2011
Posted by DJR, Thu Jan-30-20 10:07 PM
It came together and had a hot month at the right time. But Eli carried that team all season. Running game stunk too. That team never makes the playoffs without Eli playing at that level all year.
2711457, maybe if he retired after the 2nd SB win or shortly thereafter
Posted by 3xKrazy, Thu Jan-30-20 10:20 AM
dude put out way too many wack albums after that and tarnished everything
2711463, He is, but as others have alluded to, he shouldn't be
Posted by Beamer6178, Thu Jan-30-20 11:19 AM
Their first run was nutty and he had a gang of memorable plays but their second win, I can't think of anything of note. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, but I can still feel in my bones the pain of the NFC championship against the 49ers where we HAD those motherfuckers and they couldn't get past the 50 in the second half until Kyle Williams fumbled. (Forever mad on that shit).

Like it or not, that first Super Bowl put him in the HOF, where he essentially needed to play himself out of it. While his play surely has, winning another Super Bowl cemented his place.

I give the dude credit for keeping composure better than big brother. I thought he'd win more SBs than him, he did get to two faster though.
2711469, 2nd SB had the pass to Manningham
Posted by DJR, Thu Jan-30-20 11:46 AM
Under the circumstances, one of the better throws of all time.
2711474, RE: 2nd SB had the pass to Manningham
Posted by allStah, Thu Jan-30-20 12:58 PM
2-3 great moments don’t = hall of fame.

When hall of fame QBs have had careers of great seasons.
2711481, Decent catch too
Posted by Ceej, Thu Jan-30-20 02:41 PM
2711515, No question
Posted by DJR, Thu Jan-30-20 10:50 PM
2711479, No
Posted by Musa, Thu Jan-30-20 02:06 PM
The defense and Spagnolo is.

Patriots were stealing signals and since Spags knew that and got screwed when he played against them on the Eagles he knew to change up the signals.

How many points did the patriots score in those games?
2711482, Being the 1 in 18-1 kinda made it possible
Posted by Ceej, Thu Jan-30-20 02:42 PM
Doing it again sealed it
2711495, Without the SBs, he's probably less likely than Matt Ryan.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Jan-30-20 05:40 PM
Statistically, by the end of Matty's career, he'll have a good shot to pass Eli in yards and TDs with fewer picks and an MVP award.

Unfortunately for Matty and fortunately for Eli, Super Bowls matter end of the day. As do Super Bowl MVPs. He's also probably got that Ambassador of the Game thing going for him as a well-liked guy. So I'd be surprised if he doesn't get in, though it'd also probably raise my eyebrows a bit if he got in first ballot with his non-Super Bowl resume.
2711514, Dome numbers vs. Meadowlands numbers is a factor
Posted by DJR, Thu Jan-30-20 10:41 PM
2711524, the irony of two awards that were won by default
Posted by smutsboy, Fri Jan-31-20 09:36 AM
being the things that are going to get him in is... something.
2711525, 30-40 for 296, 0 turnovers - thats MVP worthy numbers
Posted by DJR, Fri Jan-31-20 10:16 AM
Throw in that he led the game winning drive late in the 4th, with a phenomenal throw. He deserved that one, no question.
2711529, RE: 30-40 for 296, 0 turnovers - thats MVP worthy numbers
Posted by allStah, Fri Jan-31-20 11:29 AM
No what he is saying is that Eli is getting in just because he won 2 Super Bowls and 2 super bowl mvps ,meaning he was great for only 1 month of a season for just 2 seasons.

He is not degrading the award, but the fact that Eli is getting in on such a limited criteria, as oppose to a whole body of work.

Let’s say all of my work during the school year is failing, but I come in and pass finals and get the highest score, do I deserve to go to the next grade? No. Your grade is based on 60 percent of the work during the semester and 40 percent on finals.

That’s the point with Eli ,60-80 percent of his career is below average, with 20-40 percent being good ( SB wins/ SB MVPs ).

2711530, Those are some of the worst numbers for a SB MVP in the modern era
Posted by smutsboy, Fri Jan-31-20 12:13 PM

Ironically Tom Brady in 2002 gives him a run for his money in that department.
2711537, I was about to say lol...
