Happy New Year yall!

Already some fun results this morning. Chelsea drew. Tottenham lost. United vs Arsenal in a few hours will play to see who can embarass themselves the most.

the VAR lines continue to be the star of the season though.

2709890, Really does aggravate me.

You've got 1) suspect defending, and 2) exciting attackers. You know you're probably not gonna win the league, but you know you're in or around the top-4.

So why not just go out and try to score 5 every match? Why hire an anti-football manager? Argh. No one wants to watch awful, negative Spurs. We want to see Kane and Son and Eriksen give 'em hell.

Fuckin' ay.

2709835, At a loss for why Lingard Matic and Shaw get games still
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Jan-01-20 03:24 PM
Lingard hasn’t had a goal or an assist in the league in a fucking year. AP is much much better than him

Brandon Williams has already been better than Shaw ever was for us. Pepe got this fucking fat boy on toast right now. Sell him to Watford

Matic been washed af. Play Garner or one of the other kids. They’re an improvement by simply being able to move quickly
2709878, Dawg, as soon as I saw Lingard's and Matic's names...
Posted by PROMO, Thu Jan-02-20 10:53 AM
i knew it was a wrap as far as US scoring went.

has Matic ever made a quick decision in a United shirt? i'd love to see it.

and Lingard...poor kid. i get he's "swaggy" and he's homegrown but he's had MORE than a fair shot. sell him to a mid-table club and let him try to revive his game there.
2709836, Arsenal should be up by 3 at the half, maybe 4.
Posted by dillinjah, Wed Jan-01-20 03:49 PM
Still very encouraging.

They need a 3rd at least 2nd half, because the clean sheet won't hold
2709837, yeah it will. were basically playing 3 men down w/ our lineup

2710137, I'm not sure what I think about Aleñá going on loan
Posted by Hitokiri, Mon Jan-06-20 09:13 AM
I've been surprised at the lack of minutes he'd gotten this year, after playing very solid last year. I thought we'd start transitioning to a younger midfield and have him playing alongside Frenkie and Arthur... but even Arthur has seen a big reduction in minutes. So, I guess it's good that Aleñá will be getting playing time, but we should have been giving it to him.
2710168, arsenal 1st half v leeds was terrible, much better 2nd half
Posted by dillinjah, Mon Jan-06-20 05:26 PM
I was impressed with Leeds 1st half, and they had a few chances 2nd half as well. Hopefully they finally make it back up to the PL.

2710612, Valverde finally out at Barça. Quique Setien in.
Posted by Hitokiri, Tue Jan-14-20 11:22 AM
I don't really like the timing of this. Valverde should have been fired after the Roma loss. After the Liverpool loss. But mid-season when we're in first place, through to the next round in CL, and after a loss against Atletico in a game many are calling our best offensive performance of the season (not to mention in an offcycle tournament played for Saudi money)? Valverde had to go, no doubt, but doing it like this leaves a bad taste.

I don't know much of anything about Setien. They say he plays a Barça style, is obsessed with Cruyff, and views the game "like chess." That all sounds good. But the issue with this is the team was really hoping to bring in Xavi to replace Valverde. Xavi wasn't happy with how they were handling the firing, said he wouldn't come mid-season, but would be open to coming in the summer. So while I personally don't think Xavi is ready yet, this is gonna get messy. Messier. If Setien does a great job, and the signs point to that being a real possibility, are you just gonna let him go to bring in Xavi who is still a rook in this head coaching business? Knowing this board -- probably.
2710619, It should have been done over the summer
Posted by thejerseytornado, Tue Jan-14-20 01:59 PM
but it needed doing, so i'm happier it was done now than later.

If Setien succeeds, then xavi waits 2-3 more years and the good thing is that xavi gets to teach the next generation and not people who he played with as peers (which seems dangerous to me, tbh, especially considering the noise that the stars have a lot of power over decision making).

Plus, there are rumors Xavis is associted with Victor Font's efforts to take overthe board and anything that helps get Bartomeu out, I'm f*cking DOWN.

2710857, This season of futbol has been rather flat.
Posted by allStah, Sat Jan-18-20 07:48 PM
There are so many teams going through a reboot.

Arsenal
MU
Madrid
Barca
Chelsea
Spurs, etc

Liverpool is having a great run, but we are really in the post Messi/ Ronaldo era. Since they are out of their prime, there isn’t any other player who is playing out of this world. Hell Danny Ings is the hottest thing in the EPL this year.

Once Beckham,Zinidine,Ronaldinho, Henry and the original Ronaldo started regressing and getting old, players like Drogba, Ronaldo,Saurez,Ibra,Messi, Eto’o etc we’re ready to take over.

Who are the next players to take soccer to the next level? Hazard, Mane, Salah, Augero, debryune , and sterling have all been great, but still not out of this world nationally and club level. Hazard has been close with both club and country.

We are in a dull period right now.

2710870, There's this young French guy.

Posted by allStah, Sun Jan-19-20 11:20 AM
Even Mbappe has been kinda quiet and injured a lot this season. He is a great player , and maybe he does carry the torch. He does have 13 goals , but compared to what vardy, ings, and Abraham are doing in a tougher league...it’s okay.

But THIS season has been rather dull. Maybe next season and the future will be better.

Hazard has been injured and still injured...which is rare and unusual.
Mbappe has missed time
Neymar barely staying on the pitch due to injuries.

Mbappe has to get out of Ligue 1. But I’m scared for him to go to Real Madrid. Their training and physio staff is shit. The whole good damn team is basically out injured. It’s amazing they are still winning games.

That was all mustafi . Luiz took one for the team, which is why his teammates and coaches clapped for him. He had no choice but to foul and at least give his goalkeeper a chance at saving a penalty instead of giving up an easy goal.

2711015, uh, no. w/ abraham clear on goal, clearly a red if he fouls...which he did

His teammates and coaches thought differently ..so it is what it is. But I’m blaming mustafi wayyyyy more than I’m blaming luiz

So we agree to disagree.

That unintelligent back pass was horrid and amateurish.

This is what happens when you do too many changes and shifting with a backline. That was horrid. Arsenal is down to ten men, and we should be totally destroying them.

This team plays badly in the last 10 minutes of a match.

And watch frank change the lineup again moving forward.

Hats off to arsenal for never giving up.

Posted by allStah, Thu Jan-23-20 12:35 PM
Relax. It took kloop 4 years to get Liverpool where they are right now. They finished in 10th place I think in his first year.

Now you want to move on to an underachiever?

Constant coaching changes in soccer is just insane.

Fucking people want frank gone and we are in 4th place with a young team.
2711101, im just telling you whats going to happen
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Thu Jan-23-20 02:02 PM
SAF himself couldn't get a tune out of this bunch, and now the injuries on top of it. and the refusal to move w/ any sort of urgency, efficiency and cleverness in the market. no chance.

*I* see where Ole wants to go. I generally like how we play. I wish he'd be more active on the sidelines but that's just my taste. However the players execution on the field is going to let him down and have him unemployed before he gets to see it out.

then we'll hire Poch and 8 months from now the fans will blame him for the players not being able to pass a ball 5 yards properly.

Jose was right every step of the way w/ us and he ended up being the one to pay for it because he had the balls to call out the our failing players and market business.
2711103, I feel you.

BUT, the players here are, for the most part, sub par. And for the ones that aren't, there's only a few guys who go out there and perform consistently (and when I say "a few" i mean that literally). The other few guys who aren't sub par put in baffling performances almost every week.

Ole can only do so much, and to pile on if we're not gonna get rid of those who aren't performing and bring in those who can then he's just gonna take more L's and run out of time like Mou did.

cheap bottom table club with the logo of our new club sponsor.

It’s even worse than the logo of a betting company that you see on teams
Like Swansea, etc

The logo is the number 3. Not words. Not a symbol. Just the number 3. In America, sports brand identity and presentation rarely takes a back seat regardless of how much revenue it generates, which is why you have yet to see sponsors printed all over American sports jerseys. It’s tacky. You’ll see goofy brands and names on stadiums, but jerseys are still an important form of image representation.n

Foreign sports? They will take money from whomever and wherever. However, maybe that’s the tradeoff to put glory and wins first over profits, which is what American sports teams and owners are more focused on.

So we will wear shitty kits to get money to buy top players ...good thing it’s only a three year deal.

Anyway, Coors logo says coors. Auto glass says auto glass.
This is just the number 3 on the front of the jersey, so each player will appear as if they are the number 3. Supporters are pissed, highly.

Chelsea Jersey sales are going to plummet for the next 3 years. It’s truly bad.

Tomori just continues to evolve. Reminds me when Luiz first joined chelsea, and we had this offensive centerback who could dribble, pass and score. However, unlike Luiz, he is defensively sound. His recovery speed and poise at such a young age is impressive. Kid is going to be a monster on both sides of the ball.

It was a decent win and Bats got a goal. Just keep playing and improving little by little.

I doubt that we are going to do any purchasing in this transfer window... the positions that need to be addressed are not hurting us to the point that we need to make some emergency buys.

honestly, I expect to lose the league with the transition to his style. really surprised arthur looked so poor against valencia--thought he'd thrive under setien. hopefully it's the newness/the tough trainings.

but the defense looks....HORRID. and a lot of meh possession.

It looks like it could just be a slight modification or misinterpretation (by the site who put up the formation) of a 4-3-3 or a 4-4-2. But just playing 3 at the back with Busquets as cover... that's not gonna work. Our defenders are not fast enough, not athletic enough for that.

2711438, RE: Sky reports Everton rejected a $110mil bid for Richarlison from Barca
Posted by allStah, Thu Jan-30-20 01:02 AM

If it is true...

It’s a smart move. He is only 22. They offered 100 mil. Everton bought him for 50 mil. They are not in need of money, and they just brought in one of the best managers in the game, and richarlison is a central part of his strategy.

Why sell a player who not only fulfills your need, and who isn’t even in his prime yet, but also has an Astronomical upside?

They are trending upward as a team and headed in the right direction.

Plus they would have to cover that void at striker, and there are no good strikers out on the market right now, which is why Barca put in that desperate bid( if it is true).

They will at least be able to get their 50 million back in a future transfer if he flops , since he is really young.
