2708904, Now He Wants To Go To 160

https://www.boxingnews24.com/2019/12/terence-crawford-moving-up-to-160-after-egidijus-kavaliauskas-fight/

Potential Fights at 154
Jermell Charlo
Tony Harrison
Patrick Teixeira
Julian ‘J-Rock’ Williams
Jarrett Hurd
Erislandy Lara
Erickson Lubin

Potential Fights at 160
Gennadiy Golovkin
Canelo Alvarez
Ryota Murata
Chris Eubank Jr.
Jermall Charlo
Jaime Munguia
Demetrius Andrade

Is his planned move to 160 basically a concession to the current state of boxing? PBC is not nearly as prevalent at 160 as they are at 154 and 147. I just want to see dude get a fight with somebody. Maybe this is not a bad idea.
2708907, Personally, I think that's wack af

but if PBC and Top Rank just won't work together, his options are quite limited. But skipping 154?
I think it's a bluff.

I understand what you are saying. But a lot of us initially thought Mikey Garcia was bluffing when he went from lightweight to Errol Spence. Canelo just fought and knocked out the light heavyweight champion. We are in the corporate age of boxing but seeing elite fighters take huge risk in fighting guys in higher divisions is nto so uncommon these days either.
2708908, That doesn't sound like a good move.

2708924, Hate to say it, but he fumbled the bag
Posted by snacks, Wed Dec-11-19 11:41 PM
... when he signed that extension w Top Rank (think it was last year?)

Hate that it's that way, but it is. If he would've/could've jumped ship when Pacquiao did, he would have at least fought a Danny Garcia by now

I made the same argument a few months back. When he decided to re sign with Top Rank, there was little evidence to believe he would be in the biggest fights understanding whom his top rivals were aligned with. He didn't even get the opportunity to fight Manny when they were both with Top Rank. I'm sure at the time he felt like it was a good move for him. He is one of the best fighters in the sport and clearly one of the faces of Top Rank. I'm just saying his signing could not have been fueled by the opportunity to fight anybody at PBC.

2709049, I decided to walk away from boxing after Floyd retired.

I saw the Canelo marketing train and I was like the middleweight on down is dead. However, I’ve been checking out Crawford and I just saw the fight

This aint Amir Kahn. He was in there with a solid fighter and toyed with him.

Hate the Bradley and Ward duo as analysts. Saying bud was hurt in the second round , and dude was never hurt.

Crawford wanted to show that he could brawl toe to toe, and he did just that.

2709156, Tim Bradley is a horrible commentator

2709050, Fuck Bob Arum. Seriously.
Posted by Castro, Sun Dec-15-19 08:36 AM
All the dumb shit Floyd did to promote fights are forgivable when you see how someone with Crawford's skills basically toils in near anonymity.
2709069, Right. How do you NOT match him/Pacquiao?

2709527, Bud turns down Shawn Porter fight (swipe)
Posted by snacks, Sat Dec-28-19 12:56 PM
I am a HUGE Bud fan, but he's gonna continue to get exactly what he deserves in terms of opposition at 147. From where I sit, this was his only chance to even start the conversation for a Spence fight down the road

https://www.boxing247.com/boxing-news/terence-crawford-rejects-shawn-porter-fight/139129

WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford says he doesn’t want the fight with ‘Showtime’ Shawn Porter (30-3-1, 17 KOs) because it doesn’t make sense for him right now. Crawford says he’s “Focused on” other fights. Who knows? This might be the Top Rank promoted Crawford’s last chance to get a fight against one of the elite PBC fighters.

The reaction from fans to Crawford REJECTING the Porter fight has been overwhelmingly been negative to the extreme, as they now view the Omaha native as a ducking cherry-picker, who has built his 11-year professional on the back of lesser opposition.

Crawford says NO to Porter fight
“That’s not a fight that I’m focused on right now or even worried about,” said Crawford to DAZN about a fight between him and Porter. “I’m focused on other things right now. If we had to fight and if it made sense, then that would be a fight that we would both agree upon. But right now, I feel like that’s not something we should discuss right now, because there’s nothing on the table for me,” said Crawford.

Terence isn’t saying what other fights are, but his promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank Boxing mentioned recently that he wants to match Crawford against these elite light welterweights in 2020: Jose Ramirez, Josh Taylor and Regis Prograis. Crawford would have a size advantage against all of them, and they arguably be easier fights than if he were to face Porter, who would be a bad style match-up for him.

Choosing to say no to the Porter fight should arguably remove Crawford from the running to get the Errol Spence Jr. fight, because this a prerequisite proving-type of fight where Terence would show whether he deserves to share the ring with him. Right now, Crawford’s resume is so poor that you can’t really say that he deserves a fight with Spence, unfortunately.

Given the level of opposition that Crawford has fought during his career in building up his perfect 36-0 record, it’s not surprising that he’s turned down the Porter fight. Porter is the complete opposite of the guys that Crawford has fought since turning professional. He’s talented, and a true world class fighter with the size, boxing skills and the power to fight Crawford on his own terms. Porter wouldn’t be a huge underdog in a fight against Crawford.

Porter’s fighting style is ALL WRONG for Crawford

From the switch-hitting Crawford’s perspective, it’s probably a smart move for him to DODGE the Porter fight. With Crawford’s counter-punching style of fighting, Porter would be the worst type of fighter that he could ever face. Counter-punchers don’t do well against fighters that smother them the way Porter does, and they struggle against guys that force an inside fight.

Porter would take away Crawford’s counter punching ability, and render his switch-hitting ability as useless by forcing an inside war. Crawford has long arms, and can’t fight effectively in close. As a result, Crawford is like a fish out of water when he’s forced to fight in close, and Porter would have a field day against him.

These are Crawford’s best opponents during his 11-year pro career:

Yuriorkis Gamboa
Ricky Burns
Raymundo Beltran
Jeff Horn
Jose Benavidez Jr.
Amir Khan
Egidijus Kavaliauskas
Viktor Postol
Thomas Dulorme
John Molina Jr.
Felix Diaz
Julius Indongo
Hank Lundy

None of those fighters are the best in their weight classes, and it’s painfully obvious that Crawford has a padded record filled with soft jobs. Since Crawford has never proven himself, you can’t rate him up there with guys like Spence, Porter, Manny Pacquiao, Keith Thurman or Danny Garcia. In other words, the PBC fighters have to be viewed as above Crawford in this writer’s view.

With Crawford about to turn 33, his days are numbered as a top fighter. He was knocked down in his last fight against Egidijus Kavaliauskas on December 14, and he struggled big time until stopping him in the 9th round with a rabbit shot.

This is very sad news that Crawford doesn’t want the Porter fight, because Shawn and his dad Kenny have been begging him to have his promoters at Top Rank call them to start putting the fight together.
2709734, Overestimating His Value

Tim Bradley said Wilder was the only fighter with balls at PBC due to his willingness to fight someone outside of the camp. Wilder is in a similar situation as Terrence Crawford. It has been reported his guaranteed base purse against Fury was 4 million with Fury making 3. Ruiz just made $10 million fighting Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia. Joshua made at least 60. Wilder is arguably the best heavyweight in the division. He is also a fraction of the draw of Anthony Joshua. Wilder and Fury will split the purse 50/50 in the rematch. Wilder has no leverage negotiating with Joshua and is on a level playing field with Fury following the draw.

The money that Crawford is making at Top Rank is comparable to the top 4 guys at PBC (147). If Spence and Crawford fought today it would not be as lucrative a fight as people may assume. It would be closer to Wilder/Fury. Wilder has no choice but to fight guys outside of PBC at the heavyweight division. Haymon clearly doesn't find it necessary to work with Arum for a 30 million dollar fight for Spence because he has other options for similar money that are less complicated to make. Terrence has no other options but Spence for a big pay day at 147. Spence has shown he is a bigger pay per view attraction than Terrence. Crawford/Arum has to play ball with Haymon. They can slander PBC all they want. "The only thing that matters are numbers." (c) Clarence Avant
