He goes for 30 even once and I’m going way too hard.
2707484, I hate to critique someone in a bad way?

But what has changed?

As you get older as a player, you become more of a mental player.
You go to the low block. You use the backboard (Timmy).

Portland is really bad. It got rid of too many assets, no inside presence.
Lets see how lillard deal with this period of time as a franchise player.

Also I see everyone is quiet about Luke Walton. dude has Sac balling, even without Fox and Bagley.
2707491, Also Brandon Ingram play great defense on him.

Constantly blocking his stuff, and getting at him on the offensive end.

Another fire game by BI
2707494, like I keep say it’s early, but record-wise Sacramento looks to be...

right around where they were last season

2707499, Give that man 5 games minimum before we start the analysis.

2707506, breh looked bad out there. he should've stayed out.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Nov-20-19 09:27 AM
2707511, he didn't look that bad, he looked like a guy that hadn't played in over...
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Nov-20-19 10:05 AM
a year.

It didn't help that outside of CJ the guys he was on the floor with were complete trash.
2707517, He shot 14 times under 30%, had five TOs, and had zero assists.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Nov-20-19 11:16 AM
He is literally the first player in five years to shoot at least 14 times at 30% or lower, commit five or more turnovers, and have zero assists in a game.

So, no. He didn’t look “not that bad.” He looked really bad. First game back, sure, but everyone who said “he’s willing to play a role and change his game to succeed as a vet!”... isn’t looking super smart one game in.
2707518, Looked like a bad game by a serviceable NBA player.

Nothing wrong with that

2707522, I actually WATCHED the game, he didn't look that bad.

2707529, whoa, i'm no melo stan, but did you watch the fucking game?
Posted by PROMO, Wed Nov-20-19 12:40 PM
because, i did, since being in Seattle i get EVERY Blazers game.

he wasn't bad. he got a shitty whistle. at least 4 of his missed shots he was fouled on. it was like the refs were making him earn it back since he's been out so long...like they were saying "you gotta play a little bit before you earn our whistle, melo."

and afterwards he mentioned that he might have to adjust to the refs because the physicality of the game changed in just the one year he was out.

the turnovers are bad, but a couple of those were just a part of not knowing his teammates yet.

his play was fine. he was even trying on defense.

yes, let's all over-react after one game. jesus christ.
2707530, Its been like this since his last couple of years on NY tho

2707531, i never watched Melo on the Knicks. wouldn't know. i can only speak...

to last night's game.
2707535, and in OKC. and for his short Houston tenure.

one of these days, he will finally earn the whistle!
2707537, like i said, i can only speak to last night's game.
Posted by PROMO, Wed Nov-20-19 02:35 PM
and, yeah, if he gets fouled, the refs should blow the whistle.
2707533, Naw, dog

He couldn’t post up BI. BI was holding his ground and blocking his shots. BI is having a great season but he should not be stronger than melo

And it’s the same pull up rushed mid range and three point shot.

The ball does not need to go in the basket, but I would like to see some different moves.

Kiss it off the backboard or something.

Also coming back on a really bad team, that is on the way down, with superstars not happy. This was a totally desperate move. He would of been better off going to the lakers or something.

However we shall see. It was only one game.
2707534, He claims he chose portland bc they offered a starting gig
Posted by Cenario, Wed Nov-20-19 01:45 PM
2707538, I literally said "first game back."
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Nov-20-19 02:37 PM
So all of that about me over-reacting is moot. I'm aware it's his first game back.

I'm merely pointing out that it's a stat line that is quintessential Bad Melo. The type of line that's defined his post-NY era. Bad shooting, no passing, mediocre-at-best defense, negative impact on the floor.

The people who are skeptical that he can't be a valuable player in the league anymore are skeptical for precisely those reasons. So, as I said above, if he's looking to prove he can adjust his game to stick around in the league a while longer, that's not a start that will give people optimism.

I only saw highlights (and lowlights) from last night, not the entire game. But I've seen plenty of Melo over the years, I know what Good Melo and Bad Melo look like. I believe he's still capable of showing us Good Melo. Last night was Bad Melo.
