Take the Subban trade, they have a guy with a huge number and three years left, so they dump his salary to sign another guy who will have a huge salary that will motivate them to dump with three-ish years left.
In this case he might be more or less worth it at 34. He's a bargain at that price now.
Lack of state income tax in Nevada is nice. To make the same take-home money in Toronto, he'd have to make $8M. $7M+ in New York.
