2697195, Stanley Cup Finals: Blues @ Bruins
Posted by Dstl1, Mon May-27-19 07:04 PM
About 30% excited, 70% nervous as fuck! Let's go, boys.
2697196, Benny with three huge saves, already

.
2697204, The one on Heinen was nice, dangerous redirect
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Mon May-27-19 10:03 PM
I didn't think the one on Marchand was all that special, it was a neat play to get a so-so chance but not a difficult save. Overall Binnington was great, gave them a chance to win a game where they got outplayed. Even in the first period when Boston was a little groggy, they managed to draw penalties and hit a couple posts.
2697197, Schenn with the slapper...1-0 Note

2697199, we gotta keep these set face off play shots out of Jordan’s face

2697202, Shit...that 2nd period was a motherfucker

.
2697203, Game wasn't as close as the score suggested
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Mon May-27-19 10:02 PM
The good thing is that I don't feel like there is carry-over from game to game in a series. From the moment of Boston's first goal forward, the Bruins owned that game. Yes the Blues should have had a 5on3 and frankly I think another power play on that Krug hit (WTF is charging if not that?), but they didn't do much with the power play time they had and 5on5 they played 40 shitty minutes.
2697246, At least if Boston wins, it means MarJo will lift the trophy
Posted by smutsboy, Tue May-28-19 10:17 AM
He's played great.
2697391, sonofabitch!!! shitty turnover by Perron

2697400, It's a series.
Posted by smutsboy, Thu May-30-19 12:35 AM
Binnington let in two marginal 5 hole goals in the 1st but the Blues pulled it out.
2697404, I don't blame him AS much for the Nordstrom goal..
Posted by Dstl1, Thu May-30-19 08:19 AM
off the really bad Perron turnover in the zone...but, the goal by Coyle has to be stopped.
2697632, he played a lot better in the loss than the win but i guess it evened out
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri May-31-19 04:03 PM
2697602, Sundqvist suspended for Game 3...smh
Posted by Dstl1, Fri May-31-19 09:25 AM
.
2697607, seems reasonable
Posted by smutsboy, Fri May-31-19 10:10 AM
which is not something we can normally say for DPOS
2697631, He should not be suspended but who cares? He played shitty in Game 2
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri May-31-19 04:01 PM
That line has been good for the Blues overall but he didn't play a very sharp Game 2 and might benefit from a game in the press box.

He muffed an outnumbered attack on the power play (he just went behind the net and took himself out of the play) and then they end up taking a penalty (Schwartz goalie interference) a couple seconds later. He picked up the penalty on this hit, which easily could have been a major in today's NHL. He also missed the net on a gorgeous setup from Petro.

The hit itself was reviewed by the crew and they didn't even assess a major. They didn't miss anything and their judgment was right. Yet in the eyes of the league it's worth a suspension? Usually they correct when the officials miss a call or don't properly consider it but they didn't do the former and did the latter here. That's just a garden variety check on a defensemen but he fakes one way and moves the other while lowering his position. Hard to hold up there and certainly not a malicious play where he targeted the head. But Sundqvist is basically a nobody so the NHL looks tough on head shots by suspending him here.

Also, while I hate the idea that penalties, free throws, etc should be even or evened out, wow, Blues have had 10 PKs and Bruins 4 in this series so far if my count is correct. That's a big gap and while I get that the Bruins drew some penalties and the Blues have tried to be a little more physical, it doesn't really add up, especially now tossing in a suspension. How the fuck did Krug not get a charging penalty in Game 1? If that isn't charging, what the fuck is? Pretty much a textbook example. The missed slash that would have given them a 5on3, they were aware of that. No call and no makeup call. This is not a conspiracy theory as much as it is a straightforward critique of the officiating.
2697635, If I wasn’t so lazy
Posted by smutsboy, Fri May-31-19 04:27 PM
I’d compare 5 on 3 / 60 min, regular season vs playoffs.

I bet the ratio is 10:1 at least.

I understand being a *little* looser in the playoffs. But the current shift in playoff officiating is farcical at this point.

Just call the game the same as you do all year.
2697637, and folks are going on and on about the Krug hit....
Posted by Dstl1, Fri May-31-19 04:55 PM
as if it's some kind of "where were you when..." play that should go down in the hockey annals.
2697683, damn...Jake Allen in

2697684, Tons of missed opportunities, dumb penalties, lots of shitty minutes....

Jordan was bad, no special teams. Complete bedshitting. Recoup and get ready for Monday.
2697688, Gotta stay out of the box. And not get wrecked on the PK
Posted by smutsboy, Sat Jun-01-19 10:10 PM
Come back strong next game.
2697834, Schenn with the finisher...back to Boston tied 2-2

2697840, Great game
Posted by smutsboy, Tue Jun-04-19 07:13 AM
St Louis fought and fought.

Fun to see them hold their own in this series.
2697903, It's funny it's a tie series but there's only been one "close" game
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Jun-05-19 06:10 PM
You had the blowout in Game 3, obviously, but I think Games 1 and 4 were both not as closed as they looked on paper. Take out the early part of Game 1 and turn a post into a goal and Boston wins Game 1 easily. The sequence where St Louis put on hella pressure and drew a penalty didn't get them a goal and then they give up a shorty. If not for that sequence, they'd have cruised. What I mean to say is that in terms of controlling play, Boston controlled Game 1 more than the score suggested and St Louis did the same in Game 4. So far I've called each of the four games right in terms of a winner. Not sure I have a pick for Game 5 but I am leaning Boston. I think the winner of Game 5 will win the series, that I'll say for sure.
2698144, Outshot 17-8, but 0-0 tie after one...thanks, Jordan

2698156, In the parlance of our times, DAT BOY GOOD
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Jun-06-19 09:01 PM
Was thrilled to see him come over. Really underrated player. I think he's occupying Kopitar's place from last year on the totem pole leaguewide, he's that good. Close to a PPG scorer, excellent defensive forward, consistent but able to raise his game a level, too. What more could you ask for short of a true elite top five type guy (Crosby, McDavid, etc)? Not much.
2698157, He almost had another one off the pass from Parayko

.
2698155, Wow what a great play at the end of the second!
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Jun-06-19 08:59 PM
I was just telling my dad it had been a structured north/south game without many opportunities and then bang. Sundqvist did a nice job of interfering without "interfering" and then great patience from Petro. No way he could have gotten the pass across, he waited out Rask and had a wide open net. In comes Krejci and BANG, saves a goal. Huge play. If Boston comes back here, we'll see that ad nauseum.

2698187, You could make the case that Boston deserved a little better but ...
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Fri Jun-07-19 02:55 PM
hey missed calls happen (STL missed out on a 5on3 earlier in the series, the Krug hit, Marchand low-bridging Tarasenko yesterday) and shot totals don't always tell the story.

My gut says Boston forces a Game 7 but I am hoping the Blues can finally do this at home for the fans there. The trend, however, has been droughts ending on the road with one exception. Chicago won in Philly. The Bruins won in Vancouver. The Kings won at home. The Caps won in Vegas. So that's four long droughts ended, three on the road.

They aren't scoring for shit and when they get chances they just shank them as wide as possible.

2698428, that was such a cheesy goal
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Jun-09-19 09:23 PM
can't remember a playoff goal that cheesy since that dump-in from the red line made its way past mike smith in 2012. i get that the puck was knuckling and changed direction slightly. but he's got to come up with that.
2698432, that was...
Posted by smutsboy, Sun Jun-09-19 11:11 PM
...not great. at first I thought it changed direction, but it didn't.
2698513, it hit someone in its patch and kinda skittered

but nothing drastic. he's gotta have that.

2698514, they have recovered from big losses before
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Mon Jun-10-19 08:07 PM
special teams is gonna be huge. that favors boston. but it's just one game.

of course the big thing would be the blues getting the first goal.
2698430, I guess it will take a Game 7 to decide this.

Goal came out of absolutely nowhere the way the B's were dominating the first 15 minutes. Credit Binnington and a hell of a shot from Bouwmeister, too.

A historic turnaround for the blues. Have we ever seen a team be in last place (in the league!) halfway through the season but win it all?

Binnington played out of his fucking mind. What an incredible performance.

Also fuck Boston and Brad Marchand specifically. There’s no other player I’d rather see in tears than him.
2698941, No there hasn't been

According to the telecast the Blues is the first team to be last in the standings at some point after 30 games and win the Stanley Cup. Puts a new spin on worst to first.
