2691707, MLB 2019 Post
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Mar-28-19 02:53 PM
Maybe there can be another one if it gets big, but it's Opening Day*! Harper's in Philly! Machado's in San Diego! Robinson Cano's already got his first HR as a Met! The Reds are wearing 15 different throwback unis throughout the year!

Maybe everything will be static and the playoff races will be settled by the end of June but right now everyone's a contender.

* Except Oakland and Seattle, of course
2691709, that changeup Cano went yard on?
Posted by HecticHavoc, Thu Mar-28-19 02:57 PM
Scherzer gave up ONE HOME RUN ALL YEAR on a changeup last yr. that is nuts.

Initially wasn't a fan, but now think they look really sharp.

Getting five baserunners a game probably won't win many games for the Twins, but I'll take one over the reigning division champs.

He's still the April GOAT.

Nationals fans cutting up jerseys and booing him like he's supposed to leave $75+ million on the table for a team and a city that never embraced him unless he was doing something historic. Got benched for bullshit, played hurt, and was the spark for part of the best run of baseball in DC since Goose Goslin. I hope he finds success, happiness, but still no parts of a World Series ring.

2692186, Rays are looking sharp so far....
Posted by Marbles, Wed Apr-03-19 09:05 AM

We've been a team of peaks & valleys thru the season. I know it's mad early, but we're showing a lot of potential so far.

In my mind, the biggest thing is for cats to stay healthy. Yandy Diaz is said to have tweaked his ankle last night. They're saying it's not serious and I'm hoping that's the case.

not be a downer, but fuck MLB a lot of the time
2694029, When Anderson got thrown out of the game was dumb

Pitchers and teams get hurt feelings too easily anymore. It drives me nuts. This "keeper of the game" shit is getting old.

Dude was so hype he looked at his own dugout and said, "Let's go!"

2694107, The Tampa Bay Rays are better & cooler than your favorite team (link)
Posted by Marbles, Tue Apr-23-19 12:07 PM

This article is a good bit corny but it is a lot of fun watching these guys.

I think playing this well around 25 games into the season keeps this from being labeled a fluke. Not that they can't fall off but if they do, it won't be because of a lack of talent. I think the confidence is there. Cash has to keep their heads straight and they have to be consistent over a long season.

2694108, Willians Astudillo plays for my favorite team
Posted by Walleye, Tue Apr-23-19 12:13 PM
So, no.
2694110, I just read an article about him from 538.com.
Posted by Marbles, Tue Apr-23-19 12:31 PM
If he keeps moving along at this rate, he'll be a monster. His versatility in the field is impressive too. This story down below about the corn kernels with his father is nuts.

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/willians-astudillo-is-a-baseball-enigma/

"Astudillo’s grandfather and father were obsessed with baseball. His father had played professionally in Venezuela. Astudillo remembers a drill in which his father would kneel a few feet away and flick corn kernels toward him in their backyard in the coastal city of Barcelona, Venezuela. Astudillo’s objective was to hit the knuckling projectiles with a broomstick. He thinks his rare contact ability is part nature and part nurture."
2694119, He's weird enough to belong on that Rays roster
Posted by Walleye, Tue Apr-23-19 12:59 PM
To be clear, I don't disagree with that article at all - I'm just enjoying the hell out of the first genuinely weird talent the Twins have had in awhile. The Rays have turned "making weird talents into quality MLBers" into a cottage industry, so it's big fun watching them right now.

didn't see this coming. from dead-in-water to 2nd-best run differential in the NL and wild card lead, with plenty of time to win the East.
2702171, They have the best record in baseball over the last 3 months
Posted by Call It Anything, Sun Aug-25-19 06:49 PM
And they've gained 2.5 games on the Braves in that span. Looking increasingly likely they're hosting a 1 game in DC to play the Dodgers.

Bullpen is still shaky and I wish they had made a move and gotten someone like a Jose Abreu to platoon at 1B with Matt Adams, but damn they've been fun to watch since bottoming out with that sweep against the Mets and everybody on Fire Davey-watch. Rendon is leaving with a bang and Soto is quietly having an historic 20-year old season. Howie Kendrick is a damn secret weapon. Robles is a beast on the bases and in the field with enough pop to keep it interesting. Eaton isn't what they traded for but respectable.

They've had better teams on paper but that shit hasn't made any kind of difference since 2012, so I'd love to see the team win one when they were the lesser team. In a 5 game series against the Dodgers? Scherzer twice, Strasburg twice, and Corbin? I'll take that over any 3 starters in either league right now.

I was doing the math today, if Ryan Zimmerman comes back healthy, is he on the playoff roster? I can't say for sure that he is. If they were taking 13 pitchers, I'd probably rather have Asdrubal Cabrera over Zimmerman. I guess is they take 12 and Matt Grace watches from the comforts of home?

Never been done before.

This team is reminding me of 2017, the way they keep finding ways to win.

Stay healthy, and trade for a legit setup man(Morrow would be the difference from ‘17 - they have yet to find anyone nearly as good) and they’ll be in good shape.

Also, I hope Smith takes the catcher job. Barnes just doesn’t hit enough.
