2679755, CFB Saturday: Rivalry Week Posted by will_5198, Sat Nov-24-18 12:35 AM
Friday was good stuff all-around:
- Virginia kept their 15-year losing streak to a bad Virginia Tech team alive. definitely had a huge chance to close it out in regulation, but my man Bryce Hall was victimized twice on 50/50s and then they just flubbed it away in OT.
- Can't beat an Apple Cup in the snow. Washington relied on their superior front to bulldoze their way to victory (although Jake Browning did his best to give WSU their points), while WSU had the elements to face and strength on strength -- UDub's secondary won out.
- WVU-Oklahoma was 2018 offense summarized over four quarters; two Air Raid graduates going at it with typically bad tackling Big 12 defenses not catching up. Marquise Brown is a bad boy but that Oklahoma offensive line is the real marvel; probably end up with 3 NFL players all told (and Orlando Brown was there last year).
- UCF won but Milton McKenzie got his leg destroyed in a car wreck collision early in the game. whole knee was basically bent backwards by a sandwich tackle. scary stuff; hope he recovers.

2679760, I was reading as much as I could on Milton's injury, last night... Posted by Dstl1, Sat Nov-24-18 08:28 AM
he had emergency surgery to save his leg. I immediately thought Bridgewater, but David Chao compared it to the Bears' Zach Miller. I had completely forgotten about that one. Man, that's sad, though.
|
2679764, they popped the knee back in place on the field? fuck me Posted by will_5198, Sat Nov-24-18 11:53 AM
torn artery, emergency surgery to prevent amputation...awful

2679778, amazingly, the nation is falling for his health tricks twice Posted by will_5198, Sat Nov-24-18 02:26 PM
- so he has brain cysts that cause him overwhelming migraines when he gets riled up - admitting that, but coaching a major FBS program that stresses him out every week is OK - but his continued sideline meltdowns are because of...his brain cyst condition?
you know, he could always *not* coach football if his health is so precarious. and he has to be aware that the TV broadcast has turned "Urban Cam" into an every Saturday thing -- yet he is more exaggerated on every play than I've ever seen him.

2679820, so Urban is responsible for the Urban cam? Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Nov-24-18 11:47 PM
or the scores of media who have been dumping on him since the offseason?
so the doctors faked his surgery and this is all a big rouse...for what? so he can have baskets of get-well muffins sent to his house?
or it's an excuse so he can bail on OSU cause he's getting run out of the conference by harbaugh? LOLZ
the insinuation that he's faking it is pretty crummy and usually from the same people who in their next breath wish for him to keel over and die on the sidelines or tweet nasty shit to his daughters.
I don't see the thought process behind it.
|
2679822, yeah, in part (Urban Cam) Posted by will_5198, Sun Nov-25-18 12:18 AM
guy is more dramatic over every call and play than I've ever seen at Ohio State or Florida. it seems forced to me.
if Urban has serious health problems he should uh, not be the head coach of a college football team when it obviously is causing him weekly breakdowns.
and if he doesn't have serious health problems...why is it a thing every week? only Urban knows what's going on, but either way it doesn't make sense. just like the Florida exit.

2679887, RE: yeah, in part (Urban Cam) Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Nov-25-18 09:00 PM
>guy is more dramatic over every call and play than I've ever >seen at Ohio State or Florida.
I don't really agree with that. He's always been animated they've just never had a camera directed solely on him for an entire game. And this year's team has easily been his worse in terms of anger inducing fuckups so I can understand the emotional reactions.
The only thing that's different to me is his press conference behavior where he's constantly rubbing his temples and almost grimacing in pain.
>it seems forced to me.
Well, if it is forced then that would be super weird. But hard to accuse someone of faking an illness, especially when his brain cyst and operation are well documented. I'm no expert but he really does look to be suffering from something either physical or psychological. When someone tells me they have a health problem my natural instinct is to believe them. Maybe that makes me naive.
>if Urban has serious health problems he should uh, not be the >head coach of a college football team when it obviously is >causing him weekly breakdowns.
The fact that he's coaching football doesn't invalidate his health claims. It just means he's doing the best he can to carry out the task he's contractually obligated to do. Whether or not he's physically fit to do his job w/o detriment to his long term health is something he needs to figure out with his doctors...it's not something for me and you to evaluate.
And not sure what you mean by 'weekly breakdowns'. I don't know of any issues besides his mannerisms at games and press conferences.
>and if he doesn't have serious health problems...why is it a >thing every week? only Urban knows what's going on, but either >way it doesn't make sense. just like the Florida exit.
Well, we all speculated on the reasons he left Florida...all of which in retrospect seem incredibly stupid. And the same reasons applied to his situation at OSU would be even more illogical. Again, nobody is running him out of the conference like Saban was claimed to have done.
If he decides to hang it up after this year then so be it. That's his right.

2680129, I'm not sure if this is the type of conspiracy theory nonsense Posted by 3xKrazy, Wed Nov-28-18 09:15 AM
you want to be aligned with. It fails on every level and is promoted by all-around shitty people.

If Harbs can't get it this year, he is waiting until Urban leaves OSU
MSU had to edge out Rutgers at home, Dantonio might not be much of a threat

2679800, Kliff Kingsbury going to be a sought-out OC this offseason? Posted by will_5198, Sat Nov-24-18 05:18 PM
Tech just lost to Baylor. 5 in a row to close the season.
2017: Lost 6 of last 8 2016: Lost 6 of last 8 2015: Lost 5 of last 7 2014: Lost 4 of last 5 2013: Lost 5 of last 6
Texas Tech is not going to be Texas/OU or anything, and he's an alumnus who runs the correct offense for these times, but after a while everybody gets sick of Groundhog Day.

2679823, Utah's season might be over without Huntley Posted by will_5198, Sun Nov-25-18 12:21 AM
they look awful against BYU right now
no way they beat Washington with a one-dimensional offense
|
2679825, The offense looked good in the two games without Huntley Posted by calij81, Sun Nov-25-18 12:28 AM
I’m surprised they are playing this bad but this is a rivalry game.

2679824, remember when PJ Fleck was a thing? Posted by will_5198, Sun Nov-25-18 12:23 AM
Minnesota finally got a big win, smashing the remnants of Wisconsin's season
|
2679826, Fleck needed this win after a very disappointing season Posted by calij81, Sun Nov-25-18 12:31 AM
Minnesota snaps a 15 game losing steak to Wisconsin, this should help keep the heat a bit lower for Fleck.

146 points (most in FBS history) 7 OT 1 Premature Gatorade bath in regulation
|
2679829, What a crazy game Posted by calij81, Sun Nov-25-18 12:35 AM
I can’t believe it went to 7 OTs.
|
2679828, Cals defense dominates Colorado Posted by calij81, Sun Nov-25-18 12:33 AM
This Cal offense is terrible. I thought hiring Beau Baldwin as our OC was a great move by Wilcox but he has been a major disappointment. DeRuyter, who I wasn’t excited about at allhas really turned this Cal defense around.
Wilcox is going to have to fire Baldwin and move on to a new OC after this season.
|
2679830, Tennessee closes with whimper. Posted by will_5198, Sun Nov-25-18 12:39 AM
no bowl, no saving face when you get throttled by Vandy for the third year in a row and make Kyle Shurmur look like Nashville Tua (31 of 34 passing!). everyone looked like they were ready for this season to end after kick-off.
the rumored good news is that Pruitt will fire OC Tyson Helton. we'll see, but Helton trying to run a mostly pro-style offense with an undermanned offensive line and running game is just flat-out stupid. even Saban threw that shit out of the window and is playing by the game's RPO rules now.
|
2679917, Chicken or the Egg Posted by Frank Mackey, Mon Nov-26-18 09:36 AM
It's really hard to assess Helton's season with the group he was working with - especially the Oline.
That being said, some of the play-calling, especially regarding getting Chandler touches, is inexcusable.
|
2680019, I don't think Helton showed enough adaptation Posted by will_5198, Mon Nov-26-18 08:28 PM
and next year we'll find out if that was because Pruitt was handcuffing him or Helton couldn't change fast enough.
where was the quick passing game (the worse an o-line the faster the ball needs to be out), or spread formations (if you can't win hat on hat, you have to empty the box)?
I feel like most games we just lined up and tried to run the same boring plays without any thought to our talent advantages/disadvantages. 1.5 YPC? keep running on first down!
