2673783, Something really bad is going on with Everson Griffen
Posted by Marauder21, Tue Sep-25-18 01:16 PM
This sounds serious and I hope he gets the help he needs before he hurts someone else or himself. The fact that his wife is suggesting he's been going through stuff like this his whole life leads me to think it's probably something deeper than CTE (though I'm sure playing football doesn't help whatever it is.) Jumping out of a moving ambulance almost sounds more bipolar.

Just two days after the Minnesota Vikings told defensive lineman Everson Griffen that he would not be allowed at practice until he received a mental health evaluation, Griffen was transported to a metal health facility after he threatened to shoot someone at a hotel in Minneapolis and was acting erratically at home, according to a police report from the Minnetrista Police Department. The previously reported incident at the hotel was the culmination of weeks of strange behavior by Griffen, of which team personnel were aware.

The incident, which police say began around 2 p.m. Saturday and ended after 10 p.m., started with the director of security for the Vikings, Kim Klawiter, calling the police to ask them to check on Griffen’s wife and kids at their home, following Griffen’s incident at the hotel. The report said:

Kim told me that he and other Vikings staff are concerned about Everson Griffen and what he may or may not do to himself and or his wife and kids. Kim said that he hasn’t been acting normal lately and said that it’s almost like he is having a nervous break down. Kim said that it was so bad that the team told him not to play on Sunday and to go get his head straight.

When the officer arrived at the house, he found the family’s nanny waiting in the driveway. The nanny, who was scared that Griffen would come home and see her talking to police, said Griffen’s wife, Tiffany, had left the home with the couples’ three children. Then the officer met up with Tiffany at another location. From the report:

Tiffany said that Everson has not been acting normal lately. She stated that last Sunday on 09-16-18 they were sleeping and in the middle of the night he got up and left. Tiffany said that he does this from time to time as he is fighting with “demons” in his head and that it’s normal for him to run away and has done this throughout his life. Tiffany said that Everson didn’t return home until Wednesday 09-19-18. He said they verbally argued for a little bit and left about an hour later. Tiffany said that Everson didn’t return home until earlier in the moming Saturday 09-22-l8. Tiffany said she was taking a shower and he walked into the bathroom and the first thing he said to her was “So who Died?” Everson then made a comment about “I just want help.” Tiffany said he didn’t make any sense and asked him what he was talking about. A short time later Everson told Tiffany to get the fuck out.

According to Leslie Pico, the player development director for the Minnesota Vikings, Everson, a three-time pro bowler who this season was elected team captain for the third straight year, “has really been struggling for the past few weeks.”

From the police report:

stated that Everson is facing a possible divorce with his wife. Pico said that during practice this past week Everson has been explosive, screaming and yelling in the work place. Pico said that management sent him and his agent a letter on Thursday 09-20-18 stating he is not allowed back until he has a mental health evaluation. Pico said Everson has paranoia and has been repeating himself lately. Pico said that Everson called him on Saturday 09-22-18 and said he wanted to talk to him at his house. Everson then changed the location to Hotel Ivy in Minneapolis. When Pico got to Hotel Ivy, Everson forgot that he wanted to speak to Pico and didn’t want to talk to him. Pico said at no time did Everson make any comments about wanting to hurt himself or others. Pico said Everson is very smart about not making comments like that. Pico said that Everson’s speech is rapid and his conversations were irrational. Pico stated while the Minnesota Vikings want Everson to get a mental health evaluation, there is nothing that Everson has said or done that would rise it to the level where immediate action needs to be taken.

Pico said Everson is not a harm to himself or others. I told Pico at this point there isn’t anything I heard from him that is concerning where I need to go knock on Everson’s door and say “hey you need to go in.” Pico said honestly at this point no, there is no need for that.

Eventually, police met with Griffen at his home. From the report:

Everson was outside yelling. Officer Thompson and I approached Everson. Officer Thompson and I spoke to Everson. Everson was making comments about “777" and that he went to Waynes house because “God made me do it” and went on to say that there was a sign on the front door saying “welcome fall” so that’s why he went there.

Paramedics were called to the home and Everson agreed to go to the hospital. However, on the way to the hospital, he “got up and jumped out of the ambulance because he was in fear that someone was going to shoot him.” The officers convinced him to get back in the ambulance and they escorted him to the hospital.

The Star Tribune reports that Everson is currently being evaluated and treated at a mental health facility. The full police report is below.

A+ way of dealing with mental health issues for one of your players. Hell even if you don't care about him personally, thats an investment your paying almost 4 million this season for.
2673792, hope dude gets the help he needs

of a white guy in NYC that loses his shit similar to how it sounds Griffen lost his. (book is called Gorilla and the Bird)

It's incredible how he is able to safely work his way out of his psychotic episodes and not be

1. killed by police
2. thrown in jail
3. generally criminalized

My thoughts on Griffen were basically the same as yours, like this can go really really bad.
2673861, White folks called police on his ass QUICK, lol

EAGAN, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying the team has been notified by law enforcement agencies that defensive end Everson Griffen came out of his home "without incident and is now getting the care that he needs," hours after the 33-year-old made a series of disturbing Instagram posts early Wednesday morning claiming that someone was in his home trying to kill him.

"We are thankful to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, the Carver County Sheriff's Office, the Minnetrista Police Department and the Orono Police Department for their quick response and dedication to ensuring the situation ended peacefully," the Vikings' statement read. "Our focus remains on Everson's health and safety and providing the proper resources for him and his family."

A statement from the Minnetrista Public Safety Department said that Griffen left the residence "without incident" around 2:30 p.m. ET and was taken by ambulance to a health care facility. The statement added that the case remains under investigation.

"We got him the necessary help that he needs and in the care of medical professionals," Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said. He added that the team has an emergency action plan that was activated once the club was notified.

Earlier Wednesday, the Minnetrista Public Safety Department said in a news release that Griffen called 911 after 3 a.m. Wednesday from his residence and said someone was inside his home while requesting assistance from authorities. Griffen told the 911 dispatcher that he fired a weapon but that no one was injured.

According to the news release, law enforcement and Vikings team psychologists were in communication with Griffen since approximately 7 a.m. but Griffen had refused to come out of his residence for hours, well into the middle of the afternoon. Police said they could not find an intruder at Griffen's residence.

Early Wednesday morning, Griffen made several Instagram posts, all of which have been deleted, including a video that showed the defensive end inside his home with a pistol, which he said belongs to him.

"I'm in my house. N----- trying to pop me," Griffen said in the video. "I've still got clips left. This is my gun, .45 Wilson Combat, registered to me. I bought all my bullets around town. Dalvin Cook helped me purchase this gun. It all belongs to me, and they are registered to me. I know exactly where I bought them. I've got the card I have them on. I have everything."

Cook told Twin Cities media members Wednesday that he did not know why he was referenced in Griffen's video but that he called and texted the defensive end to check in on him earlier in the day. Griffen, according to Cook, did not answer.

"Since I got here, he was one of the older guys that took me under his wings and taught me, 'This is what you don't do, this is how you do it, this is how you take care of your body,'" Cook said. "Just how to be a pro. Appreciate him for that, for the little things he did. Since he got back, our relationship has gotten stronger. He's been trying to win games. We've been on the same mission, all of us, just trying to win games, trying to get better, trying to lead this team in the right way. So we are definitely close. That's my brother. I just want him to be OK. In his mind, make sure his family is OK. I just want what's best for Everson overall."

In an Instagram story, Griffen wrote, "I need help people trying to kill me. At my own house," and he posted screenshots of an alleged text conversation with his agent, Brian Murphy of Athletes First, in which he requested help from 911.

Griffen was alone inside his home according to authorities.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said when asked that he was unsure whether Griffen was safe. As far as the defensive end's status for Minnesota's Week 12 game at San Francisco, Zimmer also said he was not sure.

"No, that's really not our concern right now," Zimmer said. "It's really about him."

In his first stint with the Vikings, Griffen took a monthlong hiatus during the 2018 season to focus on his health and well-being after the team ordered him to undergo a mental health evaluation and after two incidents involving police authorities led to him being hospitalized. He said in April 2019 that he had had a "rough year" relating to his mental health.

Zimmer said that he addressed the team Wednesday morning.

"We're only concerned about his well-being," Zimmer said. "He's been with us for a long time. Good guy. Works hard."
