2673445, CFB Saturday: Trap Week
Posted by will_5198, Sat Sep-22-18 10:32 AM
most ranked teams are expected to hold court, but we're in conference play now and road games are always that extra element.

USC showed me something last night -- they looked dead in the water when it was 30-17, but their HS quarterback and defense stepped up. really sloppy team, though (a million pre-snap penalties).
2673448, don't know how they won that...they're awful

still not exactly sure what to make of JT skipping his senior year of HS for this.

is this going to be some sort of new trend?
2673453, Jake Bentley at South Carolina did it
Posted by will_5198, Sat Sep-22-18 12:36 PM
not sure about anyone else...plenty of early enrollees who skipped spring semester but hard to think of many who graduated as juniors
2673462, I just dont understand how it helps your career trajectory
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Sep-22-18 02:02 PM
is the goal for JT to be a NFL starter at 20 years old? I dont see him as some otherworldly talent.
2673452, Missouri is imploding
Posted by will_5198, Sat Sep-22-18 12:33 PM
not that I expected them to hang, but they are doing stuff that would get them in trouble against Kent State
2673455, Rutgers is losing 35-7 at halftime to Buffalo
Posted by will_5198, Sat Sep-22-18 12:48 PM
Buffalo has some NFL prospects, but the Big 11 might have to relegate Rutgers soon
2673458, I’m LMAO at Rutgers on a weekly basis
Posted by DJR, Sat Sep-22-18 01:17 PM
Though I kinda want them to win just enough so that they keep Ash.
2673456, these guys are already twice as good as us...
Posted by Dstl1, Sat Sep-22-18 01:08 PM
and don't need any help, yet...we're helping.
2673457, Nebraska has 20 yards of offense in the third quarter...

2673578, As a Nebraska fan and a Toronto Blue Jays fan...
Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Sun Sep-23-18 06:09 PM
I understand there is a long rebuild ahead for both. It doesn't sound like there was a whole lot of accountability in Riley's program and S&C was not up to par. I said before the season that 7-5 was the ceiling and that was including wins over Colorado and Troy. At best they are now hoping an APR score at 5-7 gets them in to a bowl. Not sure if they fixed that rule, but I believe they added 3 more bowl games so the math seems to work for that to happen unless a whole bunch of FCS teams were added to skeds this year compared to prior years. The team is going nowhere until they fix the OL and secondary is young and no depth even with Neal coming from UCF.
2673459, Eastern Michigan, eastern fucking Michigan!
Posted by calminvasion, Sat Sep-22-18 01:21 PM
Destroying a Ranked BC team and all I can think about is that BS from two weeks ago
2673460, Nebraska is getting their whole wig snatched, right now
Posted by Dstl1, Sat Sep-22-18 01:23 PM
.
2673579, they still have to go on the road to Columbus, Madison, and Iowa City
Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Sun Sep-23-18 06:12 PM
Plus Michigan State at home

I hope your copy and paste skills are stellar becuase they will likely get some work.
2673461, dudes still dropping the ball the just before the endzone...
Posted by Dstl1, Sat Sep-22-18 01:27 PM
we about to get fucked, again.
2673465, Who made this popular?
Posted by legsdiamond, Sat Sep-22-18 02:58 PM
I don’t get this move at all.

2673466, isnt Desean the originator?
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sat Sep-22-18 03:14 PM
2673467, yup, Desean is the modern originator...
Posted by Dstl1, Sat Sep-22-18 03:30 PM
the game against the Cowboys. I still remember Mike Tirico being like..."wait, did he get over the goal line?" Also, Desean did that awful celebration dance, completely unaware of what he had done, lol.
2673480, Leon Lett for the Cowboys is the first player I can remember doing this
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Sat Sep-22-18 06:42 PM
It was a Thanksgiving Day game against the Dolphins?. But yeah, most people doing it now are probably doing so because of Desean.
2673482, at least Lett got stripped though
Posted by will_5198, Sat Sep-22-18 06:51 PM
these guys are literally throwing the ball on the ground for no reason
2673574, Right
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Sun Sep-23-18 05:49 PM
Middle age memory plays some funny tricks at times.
2673483, I could never forget Lett...
Posted by Dstl1, Sat Sep-22-18 06:55 PM
seeing as how it was the Super Bowl. Thank God we still won. On that one though, Bebe knocked it out of his hand. Desean was the pioneer of voluntarily dropping the ball right at the goal line. The Dolphins game you're thinking about was when we blocked a would be game winning FG and as the ball is spinning on the snow, Lett slides in to do who the fuck knows what, pushes it forward, Miami recovers it on the 1, they get another FG attempt, make it and win the game. I can still see fucking Pete Stoyanovich's smug ass face as he made what was shorter than an extra point kick. SMH.
2673575, I try to forget those memories of those Cowboys teams...
Posted by obsidianchrysalis, Sun Sep-23-18 05:52 PM
because they always beat my teams. Ha. But now that I think about it, you're right about the details.

For someone who wasn't a spectacular player, Lett was a part of some memorable plays. Although not for the right reasons.
2673576, RE: I try to forget those memories of those Cowboys teams...
Posted by DJR, Sun Sep-23-18 06:02 PM

>For someone who wasn't a spectacular player, Lett was a part

He was actually a very good player. If I remember right he had some injuries and suspensions, but when he was on the field and on top of his game, he was a major force for them.
2673577, After Thanksgiving Dallas didn’t lose again
Posted by DJR, Sun Sep-23-18 06:04 PM
And Miami didn’t win again.
2673613, yep, but at the time...
Posted by Dstl1, Mon Sep-24-18 08:21 AM
that loss made us 7-4. Plus it was Thanksgiving Day. Family over, food, drink and a Cowboys' L to end the day. I was pissed. Went on to win 5 straight, though...and an eventual Super Bowl...where Leon would show his ass, again. You right, though...he was a hell of a player, just a goofball at times.
2673469, DeSean probably made it nationwide
Posted by will_5198, Sat Sep-22-18 04:25 PM
being Eagles-Cowboys and primetime

2673472, Didn’t he do it at Cal and possibly in HS too?
Posted by Ceej, Sat Sep-22-18 04:38 PM
2673473, pretty sure he did it in the HS All-American game
Posted by will_5198, Sat Sep-22-18 05:00 PM
forget if he did it at Cal
2673504, same team; Kirby's fault
Posted by will_5198, Sun Sep-23-18 01:07 AM
seriously...how do you let your players do this twice in three weeks?

Georgia players should be carrying the ball back to Kirby on the sidelines after every touchdown in 2018
2673474, idk how you beat this Bama team yall
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Sat Sep-22-18 05:56 PM
its at the point where i'd just tell my DLine to tee off on Tua, deal with the penalties and try and knock him out the game.

what the hell have they been working on the last two weeks? *this* is the gameplan?
2673484, fucking Christ
Posted by will_5198, Sat Sep-22-18 07:02 PM
this o-line is a weakness, stop calling fucking lead plays on 1st and 2nd down

fuck me, five yard crossing route goes for 70 yards
2673489, y'all making us look like we're actually not bad.
Posted by dillinjah, Sat Sep-22-18 07:59 PM
crazy
2673503, that's going on 5 years now
Posted by will_5198, Sun Sep-23-18 01:04 AM
Tennessee has done a great job finding whatever shitty barometer of play Florida is at and doing the limbo right under that bitch
2673646, that was incredibly discouraging,
Posted by bshelly, Mon Sep-24-18 10:12 AM
i've never seen the essence of MANBALL on display as prominently as Vols' first half. who cares what the defense is giving you? MAN ON MAN!
2673481, TCU just punted down 15 with 2:44 to go

this is like the last decade of Tennessee football condensed into a one night experience
2673490, If the SEC West didn’t play each other, they’d all make the playoff
Posted by Tiger Woods, Sat Sep-22-18 08:47 PM
NOT LITERALLY ALL OF THEM GUYS

But man LSU, Auburn, and obviously Bama are all so athletic. Imagine what they’d do in the Big 10 East? To the entire PAC 12, to everyone in the ACC except Clemson?
2673491, sarcasm?
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Sep-22-18 09:00 PM
LSU in a dogfight with LA tech and miss st getting roughed up by kentucky.

Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Sep-22-18 10:50 PM
have no idea what happened with that first overturned td call but that was obviously a killer
2673499, that was...tough to watch. I felt for that Oregon RB that fumbled

2673500, feeds my soul to see Oregon lose like that.
Posted by PROMO, Sun Sep-23-18 12:25 AM
2673502, unbelievable
Posted by will_5198, Sun Sep-23-18 01:03 AM
well, when you have a -3 in turnover margin you don't beat most good teams

but how those plays happened...scoop-and-score after inexplicable overturned TD, fumble while running out the clock with a lead, overtime interception from a near-perfect Herbert...soul stealing loss
2673506, How do u replaybthat and day he went out @ the 1?
Posted by Ceej, Sun Sep-23-18 06:52 AM
2673505, going to be a long rebuild.
Posted by will_5198, Sun Sep-23-18 01:25 AM
this season is all about setting expectations, so we'll see how they battle over this next month (which looks hopeless on paper). nobody wins with six turnovers, so Vols didn't even give themselves a chance...which is disappointing.

- offensive coaching was horrible. not sure if Tyson Helton is to blame because he thinks he still has Sam Darnold, but it falls to Pruitt and has to change.

- Tennessee has four receivers that are 6'2, 200, while the interior offensive line are all underclassmen -- yet they continue to run on first and second downs to "establish a ground game." where are the passes on 2nd down? 1st down? the only time Tennessee threw the ball was 3rd and long when their first two runs got stuffed. if you can't out-talent a defense, you out-scheme them -- running inside lead over and over for 2.9 YPC is just bad coaching.

- defense was not horrible given the turnovers, but lots of missed assignments still. you have guys in perfect coverage on a crossing route, then completely ditch their man because Franks scrambles two yards out of the pocket. turns into a 70-yard catch-and-run TD. Florida doesn't have an explosive offense and Tennessee gave them too many free chunk plays.

- Vols are going to find out who is here for the long haul soon: @ Georgia, @ Auburn, bama and @ South Carolina is their next four weeks. a senior linebacker pulled a Vontae Davis against Florida so there might be more to come.

- kicker looked good.
2673509, Jeff Monken, come on down!

I'm not buying stock on anything until after this upcoming sat night
2673755, it'll be interesting. our defense is so, so young

2673817, both defenses are sketchy. losing bosa is far bigger than anyone realizes.
Posted by 3xKrazy, Tue Sep-25-18 09:31 PM
one because he was on pace to being the most dominant DL in cfb since Suh...

but because his dominance could mask a lot of flaws in the back 7 which is beyond shaky. the talent level at some of the back end spots is just not where it was in previous seasons.
2673647, i'd love to see Florida St & Arkansas play each other

2673801, potential criminal charges in Jordan McNair (Maryland) death
Posted by will_5198, Tue Sep-25-18 05:47 PM
my kid would be transferring out of Maryland RIGHT TODAY

from USA Today:

Head football athletic trainer Wes Robinson yelled at McNair "to get the fuck up" and Robinson and other trainers on site were responsible for a "failure to identify escalating symptoms” for heat stroke, the report stated.

Three (players) described how Robinson ordered staffers to drag McNair across the field. One said, Robinson yelled to "drag his ass across the field."

McNair wasn’t taken off the field until 34 minutes after he first showed signs of heat illness. He also was not given cold immersion therapy – where an overheated individual is placed in a tub of ice and water – nor were his vital signs taken at College Park, Md., that day.

It took nearly an hour, 40 minutes before he was taken away by an ambulance, during which time his condition worsened and he began to have seizures.

“We will be requesting a full, un-redacted version of the Walters Report and will begin reviewing all circumstances surrounding Jordan McNair’s death for potential criminal charges,” John Erzen, the spokesperson for the Prince George County State's Attorney's Office, told USA TODAY Sports.
2673810, damn man
Posted by HecticHavoc, Tue Sep-25-18 07:37 PM
"drag his ass across the field"... this type of coaching infuriates me.
2673812, Meathead culture is just permeated throughout football

2673813, it was standard op procedure in high school
Posted by HecticHavoc, Tue Sep-25-18 08:03 PM
had a buddy, backup o-lineman. we are all doing position drills. hear a yell across the field, he's on the ground. the coach is calling him a pussy, get the fuck up, still being a bitch, etc. he severely fractured his ankle and did more ligament damage just getting up trying to walk.

the sad thing is, the really respected kids (best players) would never get treated like this. always a player the coaches think they can hard discipline to send a message, but not do it to a vital player.
2673815, this is beyond all levels of comprehension
Posted by 3xKrazy, Tue Sep-25-18 09:27 PM
it's one thing for this to come from a football staffer but an athletic trainer??? you can't be serious.
2673818, the most vile thing ive ever heard of from a coach
