both teams are more or less the same - so it just comes down to who wins! It's tough to see who should be favored here.

Cleveland should get 2 then AT LEAST!
2659996, He was ruled out yesterday
Posted by Numba_33, Thu May-31-18 12:41 PM
which says a lot actually since the Warriors didn't even wait until gametime to make the announcement publicly.

Have to wonder what shape he'll be in once he returns. I'd be surprised if he returns to the starting line-up.
2659989, This is when I feel most conflicted about working service industry
Posted by Nodima, Thu May-31-18 12:30 PM
Of the first four games, I'm only guaranteed to be able to see Game 2 live. Of the entire series, Only 2, 5, and 7 fall on nights I don't work.

So.... *crosses fingers*

2660155, Initial call was awful, but they SHOULDN’T selectively review fouls.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu May-31-18 10:25 PM
If you can’t re-assess if all fouls were fouls, you shouldn’t be able to review on that.

eventually "live" games will just be one long replay review.

2660195, the initial call was not "awful" - it was a close call
Posted by Vex_id, Thu May-31-18 10:39 PM
KD was out of control and initiated contact and Bron was sliding - so it's a tough call.

It wasn't so clear as to justify reversing ad hoc like that.

That call decided the game.

>but can get by on talent alone.

To me, they are getting by on the lack of 2018 talent of their opponents. So many teams are jacking up threes with dudes who pretty much CAN'T MAKE OPEN SHOTS REGULARLY. And when these cats get tired over the course of a series, they shoot even more threes and make less of them. It is a tough watch here recently.

The Rox (Beard included) were physically shot and kept heaving up long shots that had no real...errr...shot of going in whether they were open or not. And then someone sees the stats/low percentages and tries to tell me that the Dubs are playing great defense on shooters.

And this Cleveland series has started out with lesser dudes (the non-Bron Cavs) bricking open looks for most of the game.

I'm fine with teams having the 'spread the floor, drive and dish to the open man, shoot the open 3 via catch and shoot' game plan. I'm not fine when the guys who are systematically receiving the dishes can't make the damn shots.
2660196, this is honestly a shame

That’s now in the officials scope to review the block/charge and look at player movement. Bron was clearly drifting to his left to get square to KD when contact took place

Not sure he or the Cavs can play a better game. Shame it was tainted by some bad calls, free throw jitters, and JR's dumb ass (though anybody on the Cavs, including Bron and Lue, could've called time out).

LeBron was actually signaling for a TO. Refs didn't grant it.

Never seen a GOAT get so disrespected by the refs like tonight. It really was like they had an agenda. Sad to see.

-->
2660256, what replay did you watch?
Posted by mashpg89, Thu May-31-18 11:06 PM
LeBron wasn't signaling for a TO. He was asking for the ball, then telling JR to pass to the corner, then looking at his bench to see if he had a timeout. Bron, Lue, and all the Cavs should have known the situation and been screaming for a timeout as soon as JR started dribbling towards the other basket.

let me look at the dvr again but I thought I heard Jackson say that LeBron was trying to call for the ball - and then signaled for a TO once he realized JR was on an acid trip.

WTF?!!!!!

and then it was like "you're not allowed to breathe on Durant".

2660246, horrible call. people who say Bron was still moving don't understand the rule
Posted by mashpg89, Thu May-31-18 11:03 PM
"the defender must be "set" in proper defensive position; he can't step in the way of a player already in the air, and he can't be moving forwards. But contrary to popular belief, the defender does not need to be standing still. A player can move laterally or backward and still draw a charge call, so long as his torso is in position before the shooter begins his upward motion."

the fact that the ref went to review and REVERSED it, as if it was clear enough to overturn, is ridiculous. Not only that, but as JVG said, how come you can change that call but not other crucial calls? Bad look for the league on a pivotal play in the series. Can't blame it all on the refs but they chose an awful time to blow a call WITH review.
2660270, I understand a lot about basketball and he was still sliding over
Posted by J_Stew, Thu May-31-18 11:11 PM
Like Legler said, that's been a block since the beginning of time. It's too bad that they can't review the play in full because Green shoved Durant with both arms right before that all happened. Durant also got a clean strip on Bron right after that was called a foul.

Posted by cgonz00cc, Thu May-31-18 11:42 PM
i had this same attitude after Michigan ended up on the business end of a few late calls vs OSU in 2016

refs didn't turn the ball over in the 4th qtr, refs didnt give up a TD in overtime

i didnt even blame the refs after Lions-Cowboys 2014. bad calls are bad calls, but the Lions had a 4th and 1 they blew *after* the PI

cant rock to blaming the refs when so much happens after the calls in question. the sad sack ass response to getting jobbed was way more of the reason they lost than getting jobbed in the first place was.

It was technically the correct call (you NEVER see a charge with the guy leaning even though his feet were pretty much set) but WOW, that is a brutal reversal. Almost all the close ones went GS's way. They gave them a couple makeup calls (the non-call when Looney got hammered, a BS reach-in on Durant that didn't matter anyway) but nothing that really evened things out. Lots of bad calls. Then they add insult to injury with that roody poo candy ass bullshit with Trystin' Thompson at the end. FOH. Also Draymond poked LeBron in the eye on purpose. He should put on a Hannibal Lecter mask and get in that azz again in Game 2.

I'm pissed off that JR's stupidity will overshadow the fact that the ref's were HISTORICALLY awful down the stretch. After all the talk of a shit series the NBA had the miracle of Cleveland making it a series and completely robbed it's an entire fanbase as this series definitely has 4-0 or 5-1 written all over it now.

You can not go ED HOCHULI judgement overturn in an nba game, you can't. On top of that, Lebron and Steph equally attack and score, one flops like a frail bitch and one is hacked on both arms but is strong so only 1 gets the and1 call.

I haven't posted here in a while but had to log in to vent! that ending was humiliating for the league and I try hard not to be a hater but I officially hate the warriors now - they were bailed out without even doing anything good in those final minutes of regulation.

had put someone "known to fuck up" in a similar position and that player proceeded to fuck up in a mostly preventable way, Stevens would deserve at least some of the blame? Right?

Everybody knows JR is prone to this. He was CLEARLY confused in the situation and couldn't even get his story straight on what happened afterward.

Maybe the situation was clearly explained to everybody on the Cavs and JR just didn't receive the message. You can argue he should've been able to figure the situation out himself just by looking at the score and clock. Either way, he deserves the vast majority of the blame for fucking up.

But the coach also deserves some blame for depending on him in that situation. And if the coach didn't prepare that kind of player for the situation, the coach deserves an even bigger share of the blame (but the majority would still go to the player).

naw they showed replays and he didn't throw an elbow. It did look like it from angle that the ref saw tho and why he threw him out but from other angle didn't look suspect at all. They could suspend him for not leaving right away and then shoving the ball in Dray's face, but not sure they will after they see that call was wrong to begin with. We will see..

2660365, takeaways from the game the morning after:
Posted by Vex_id, Fri Jun-01-18 08:20 AM
(1) the block/charge call was a *close* call - people who are saying "it was definitively a block! clear as day" or "it was the most clear charge I've ever seen!" are both being absurd. The issue is that they called it a charge and then reviewed (the rule to review was instituted to review whether the defender was out of the restricted area - that's all that should've been reviewed). Upon taking a look at the actual play - you play has to be so obvious and egregious in order to overturn it in *that* kind of situation. This play was basically a 50/50 call - but the refs inserted themselves and marred what was otherwise a great game.

(2) LeBron James just had one of the most historic games in Finals history - and is having the greatest playoff run of any player ever to play the game. I just have no words for what i'm seeing.

(3) This Cavs team has no business in the Finals. It's amazing that the game was even that close. What a gift the refs & JR gave to the Warriors.

(4) This series went from being compelling and interesting had the refs not intervened - to being black eye'd and ugly with an inevitable result. Too bad for the NBA and its fans.

LeBron got some valuable contributions from his team, with the exception of dum dum plays. Unless they just shit the bed the next few games, they did what they were supposed to and kept it close most of the game.

Yes - Love had a very good game (for his standards) - but that still was just an average game for an all-star caliber guy.

The rest of the Cavs did not shoot the ball well and made crucial mistakes. LeBron played an almost perfect, all-time historic game. You've got to give him more help if you're the Cavs.

2660383, agreed - he should've - but I rank that third. (1) refs; (2) JR
Posted by Vex_id, Fri Jun-01-18 09:30 AM
(3) Hill

Why #1 the refs? Not just because of the worst overturn call in NBA history - but because of a sequence of bad calls. KD was clean stripped *twice* down the stretch which converted into 4 free throws. LeBron got clearly fouled by Looney at a critical part and no call - then the KD overturn which resulted in 2 more free throws. That's a 6-point swing against the Cavs. Game would've never come down to JR or Hill had the refs simply been competent.

They took all of those lumps from the refs and STILL controlled their own destiny at the end of the game. Hill is probably the #1 reason they didn't win it in regulation, followed by JR.
2660457, Refs, Hill, and then JR... 4.7!
Posted by Creole, Fri Jun-01-18 02:42 PM
Hill does his thing and then they could bitch about the refs being the worst crew ever. There would be no shit thrown towards JR at all if Hill does what he is paid to do: DRAIN THE DAMNED FREE THROW TO WIN THE GAME (or at least force GSW to hit a pressure-filled shot to tie it back up or win it.)

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23665076/an-oral-history-final-minute-regulation-2018-nba-finals-game-1-cleveland-cavaliers-golden-state-warriors

Hill goes to the line
James initiated the offense on the Cavs' next possession, but was double-teamed by Curry and Green off the attempted Hill pick-and-roll. James got the ball to Hill, who gave it back to James to reset the offense with 10 seconds left. With Curry guarding James, Green -- who had been switched to Hill -- was keeping an eye on the ball, allowing Hill to cut back door. James fired a one-handed pass in the direction of Hill, who was grabbed by Klay Thompson as the ball flew into the stands. A foul was called, and Hill made the first free throw to tie the score with 4.7 seconds left.

James: I knew it was a tie game. We were down 1. George Hill went up, he made the first one.

Jalen Rose, NBA Countdown analyst: Let's not let Hill off the hook. George Hill's gotta make the free throw.
2660503, agreed - Hill's got to make that free throw
Posted by Vex_id, Sat Jun-02-18 08:38 AM
but a missed free throw in that kind of situation happens. What doesn't happen (or shouldn't happen) is an egregious, conscious and calculated effort by the refs to sabotage the game.

I am more impressed that they played that level of defense against this... SHIT. because even though Du-CANT sucked relative to the hype, that they survived the usual 3rd quarter bullshit even with LeBron sitting says more about this team than anything else this whole season.

and that's even with the defensive lapses that still happened.

the only thing holding the Cavs back is the dum-dum play from the guards not named George Hill and Kyle Korver. BB IQ is in the toilet with anyone else in the rotation.

I'm convinced LeBron is smarter than everyone else on the floor by far. there was one play that he totally shitted on their bullshit switching circle jerk before it happened.
2660399, the Cavs played a great game defensively.
Posted by Vex_id, Fri Jun-01-18 10:43 AM
and you're right - it is impressive how they were able to lock in and compete (for almost all of the game) -- but I still think we're looking favorably upon them after Game 1 because Bron erased so many deficiencies w/ his play, yet again. The guys not named Bron shot what - 3-17 from 3? and a lot of those were wide open. The margin for error is so small when playing this absurdly stacked team

One of the biggest game 1 dogs...I think it was -11.5pts (I heard 18...)

CLE was paying 7 to 1 on just game 1...and then you have all of the side bets on the GSW sweeping, etc...SMH

These Warriors don't look that much scarier than the young Celtics team did, its kind of crazy. Maybe Warriors just play down to their competition cuz on paper and what we saw last year they should clearly be above these other teams but aren't playing that way.

Posted by Numba_33, Fri Jun-01-18 09:42 AM
of calls the officials make the next day, correct? Going to be interesting to see what that report says.

In addition of course to see if Love and/or Tristan Thompson get suspended.
2660386, If I'm not mistaken

I believe Bill Simmons has partnered with HBO to have a show with behind the scenes access to the Finals. I believe it airs starting the second week in June, but I could be wrong about that.

I'm hoping this show picked up on what Curry, Klay, and LeBron were saying word for word in the fourth quarter when they started bumping gums.
2660405, refs were shitty but ultimately bron was let down by bum ass teammates.
Posted by Reeq, Fri Jun-01-18 11:35 AM
george hill just make 2 fucking free throws. or jr smith just know what the fucking score is.

thats the absolute least you could do after watching what that man had to do to carry yall niggas.
2660408, How come no other Cavs called TO
Posted by AtoZ 0toInfinity, Fri Jun-01-18 11:53 AM
Maybe they were confused at what JR was doing and began
watching like that wreck on the side of the road, IDK man

I know JR looks bad on this but anyone on that court could have
called TO, Lue could have called TO, Bron could have called TO.
WTH happened ???

If you watch the play - LeBron is first telling him to pass to an open man, then he calls for the ball - then when he realizes JR is on an ayahuasca trip he signals for timeout with 1 second left.

Ty Lue never signaled for a TO and he should have -- but JR was in a panic and the officials weren't looking at anything but the ball at that moment.

2660417, I'll watch the replay again
Posted by AtoZ 0toInfinity, Fri Jun-01-18 12:18 PM
I don't remember seeing Bron or anyone signal
For the TO. I did see him pointing to the
corner.

I've seen coaches go ape shit to get a TO in
these situations. I just as mystified at the
Whole Cavs team, Bron and Lue for not calling
a TO as I am JR. I know JR is easy to pick
on but damn
2660415, Why didn't they review that?
Posted by bentagain, Fri Jun-01-18 12:09 PM
Bron clearly called for TO with time on the clock before the pass to Hill...no review?
2660416, yep..
Posted by LegacyNS, Fri Jun-01-18 12:11 PM
If you're gonna get on JR, you gotta get on the players and coaching staff for not calling a timeout. JR was not expecting to get an offensive rebound just like his teammates and coaching staff weren't expecting him to take the ball out of the paint with less than 5 seconds to go..

Shit happens fast man...

and once that didn’t happen, they expected him to make a pass to an open shooter. And once that didn’t happen, there was like 1-2 seconds to realize, “oh shit, this dumbass is dribbling out the clock!”

Posted by bentagain, Fri Jun-01-18 01:38 PM
For all of the 'whiners' and 'losers' contingent

I don't understand how people can't man up to the fact that the refs completely shit the bed

No reason to even call a tech on TT

compounded by ejecting him

with 2.X seconds on the clock

...mayne, call the foul, shoot FTs...or don't, and let time expire...

That entire situation at the end of the game was unnecessary

That officiating crew should be suspended.

I have seen the light. or rather, I realize that it is rare that I ever get as mad at something as I did, watching this game (tbh, I ain't really want to watch last night). if you got caught in the line of fire, don't take it personal. that shit was a level of infuriating that not even hated sports events of years gone by could contend with. and it was only a Game 1.

given how the Cavs have struggled through a season that was, absent LeBron, rather disastrous, going back to the offseason preceding it, my investment has been lower than usual.

the Cavs made some really costly mistakes in crunch time and in an overtime that should have never taken place. either the Cavs choke it on their attempt to go up 4 and the Whores win it on a field goal, or the Cavs win it on the up-four attempt.

if that was the ending, I could have lived with it.

but that officiating, I don't give a fuck how you feel about it, was some horse shit. George Hill and Tristan were excessively penalized. I'm used to LeBron not getting calls unless he goes into Miami Flopping mode. I'm used to some calls for other players just being missed, but that was some horseshit.

that ain't gonna change. That was some Tuck Rule bullshit.

Hopefully, like the Tuck Rule, I hope it comes back to haunt the assholes who benefited from the call at the worst time ever, like it did the Cheatriots this year in the Super Bowl.

what also isn't going to change: Fuck Braymond Green.

now that that's out of the way, some changes:

the Warriors have ascended to New England Patriots level of hate. I was gonna let 2015 go because injuries, but Donkeylips had to open his donkey-ass mouth. 2016 was the best REAP ever. And you'd think it'd be over, but then enter Doodoo-rant, Lord of the Burner Account to keep it going. Like the Cheatriots, they are a team for local fans, but mostly for dickriders who worship empty "rangz" above all. They act like a bunch of lil bitches when they lose, throwing their binkies and running out of sight (except, begrudgingly, Donkeylips). Whole team drinks NyQuil when pressured.

I used to think the Spurs were the Cheatriots a decade ago, now I see that believing such was the worst insult to one of the best sports teams ever. The new agenda is that they never, ever, ever move past the Spurs in "rang" count.

and now to my own team:

I'm happy they went through regulation not being blown out, especially in that third quarter. Despite the dum-dum ball that was played in crunch time, and Flop Gear doing Flop Gear things with the shot, I wouldn't have been mad at them losing that one game if they were allowed to lose without the refs fucking the rule book in the ass.

I now believe in LeBron James, more than ever. I've never been a LeBrony. There's always been a bit of damning praise behind the complimentary words, because of the things you don't usually notice if you're not a fan of the team he plays for. 2016 was one thing, but now this dude is playing at a level this late in his career that Cheese Eyes could never dream of reaching at this point in his career. His only competition from a longevity standpoint is Kareem. He's the main reason I believe the Cavs won't go out like some hoes (like last year ended up being).

Smarten up, JR.
Flatten them, LeBron.
FUCK BRAYMOND and the rest of those turdburglars.

but this last game pushed me over the edged.

i wanna see this whole franchise burned to the ground.

Posted by Wonderl33t, Sat Jun-02-18 02:23 PM
It's already natural to have the best team to be hated on. Add in the smugness and arrogance, and the inconsistent effort associated with those two, plus the golden child referee treatment. I think the hate is more than warranted.

Maybe from Draymond, but who else? He's the only one i see it from.

plus the golden child referee

Every great team and player gets this though.

2660526, It's hilarious. I sat through decades of this team sucking.

Said it before on here MANY times, I've seen fire and I've seen rain with this squad before some of the posters on here were born, so you're damn right I'm going to act a damn fool when the team is good and look likes we'll be in contention for a while.

And I find it pretty funny that these whiners are all in their feelings about this shit. You've got people in here claiming the Finals are "ruined" off of one game and wishing injuries on players, but the Warriors fans are the assholes? Okay Player.

Bron has spent his career flopping and getting favorable treatment from the refs.

And what folks are crying sbout, the refs actually did the right thing by the rule book.
2660529, Basically. Refs requested the rule change in 2012 for this type of...

how dare you win a chip with a #7 a #9 and a 2nd as your core?

AND you had the TEMERITY to retain a little cap space to make 1 splashy signing

CLOSE THE LEAGUE! SHIT IT DOWN!!!

2660555, LMAO. 7 and 9 overall aren't "late." And Draymond was allll Mark Jackson.

2660558, yeah, Braymond is the only one you can say that about
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Jun-03-18 03:27 PM
#9 and #7 are still lottery-bait. 2011 put more stars and high-level players in the league than usual, to boot

if they had pulled a true Spurs with their top 2 (Kawhi drafted by Pacers @ 15, traded for George Hill) then we'd be talking
2660560, You don't expect to grab perennial all Stars at 7 and 9 tho
