Man.... if his name was Bakari Brown & he looked like Kadeem Harrison they would’ve fired his black ass 2 seasons ago just when people thought they turned the corner. (14 votes)Vote

So the ground wouldn’t be nearly as shaky.

2654724, Man the mistakes they made are not coaching mistakes
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun May-06-18 01:17 AM
What, don't throw the fucking ball out of bounds? They have gotten better in each game but they fuck up at critical points and in ways you would not expect from professional players.

I won't whine if he is replaced by the idea that this falls on coaching is ludicrous. Also, like Casey in Toronto, I think what he did during the season should keep his job pretty safe.
2654735, uhm...
Posted by howardlloyd, Sun May-06-18 02:13 AM
they have made some boneheaded plays but the coach has not done them ANY favors

his coaching has cost the sixers at least 2 games

how you up 22 and let it go to 5 without calling timeout? without running a play? without making a substitution?

taking mcconnell out... leaving fultz on the bench

what stevens is doing to him is embarassing
2654736, the no timeout was egregious and stevens is putting in work
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun May-06-18 02:40 AM
agreed there

i think if he gets canned, hey, that's fair because it's his responsibility. but to say they have lost because of coaching, no, no coach should have to tell guys to avoid the kind of mistakes these guys are making.
2654755, He’s done nothing to get Simmons going
Posted by bshelly, Sun May-06-18 10:37 AM
He made zero adjustments to the offensive game plan.

He gave away Game 1 putting JJ on Taytum

He gave away Game 2 not calling a timeout to stop the run,

Yeah, Brett has plenty to answer for, because he’s been absolutely god awful this series,
2654729, Would he last this far?
Posted by Kira, Sun May-06-18 01:25 AM
Would the Sixers fire him after last year and bring in a new coach this year?

The black coach always takes the fall but question is when would it happen.
2654737, In this case, yes, in almost all others, no.
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun May-06-18 02:42 AM
2654754, Of course
Posted by bshelly, Sun May-06-18 10:34 AM
They went from 10 to 29 to 52 wins.

Now, if we get off to a rough start next season, Brett Black would get fired. Brett Brown will at least get to coach next year and the playoffs.

Edit: green is obviously the correct choice,
2654757, I believe that he would
Posted by hip bopper, Sun May-06-18 11:45 AM
The Sixers weren’t expected to be in the spot when the season started. Now if they make no progress in the next season or two then maybe that’s the case.

Coming into this season I figured that Phila would make it to the ‘offs, but I didn’t think that they would make it this far.
2654774, Toronto has overachieved too, everyone blaming their coach.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Sun May-06-18 01:50 PM

And no one in the league would take Toronto's talent
over Philly's.
2654835, Lebron James is not Dwayne Casey's fault
Posted by Tiger Woods, Mon May-07-18 08:00 AM
2654841, According to most people, he is.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Mon May-07-18 08:36 AM

People were blaming Nate McMillan for Lebron's 25 foot
hero shot at the the top of the key.

2654859, So if the Nate led IND pushed CLE to 7 games
Posted by bentagain, Mon May-07-18 10:26 AM
and legit had a shot to wrap up that series

Why wouldn't Casey be held responsible for putting TOR in position to get swept

With home court advantage

and a better team than IND?

You made a Casey post early in the season...and most knew how this story was going to end

But a sweep though?

Why would Casey get a pass?
2654879, I think Indiana matches up better with Cleveland.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Mon May-07-18 12:19 PM

And in situations where teams aren't mega talented,
matchups really, really matter.

I think Indiana's best player is more well rounded
and reliable than either of Toronto

Indiana's best big is better than Toronto's

Two blowouts, a huge blown lead (and missed layups to win) and another near blowout where they rallied only to get toyed with. It's an L for all involved, including Casey. You also gotta figure that his relationship with Derozan isn't helping him. Again I am not saying he's on the hot seat but let's not pretend he just walks away from this train wreck of a series without so much as a scrape
2654909, Not really
Posted by hip bopper, Mon May-07-18 03:31 PM
I believe most of the blame has been placed on DeRozan.

DeRozan said it best... if they had LeBron they would be winning too.
2654833, Like screaming A said, I never seen a coach blow at least 2 games
Posted by Riot, Mon May-07-18 07:15 AM
Maybe Dantoni did it b4 and I just don't remember right now

Casey's job should be more secure than Brown's

I think this opens the door for LeBron tho, so we good
2654834, it's brian hill status.
Posted by bshelly, Mon May-07-18 07:27 AM
brett's generally done a really nice job this year. he's worked wonders with a team that doesn't have anyone who can consistently score off the bounce.

but he's been an absolute, unqualified disaster this season.

2654861, He got the job on the strength of his association with Pop/SAS
Posted by bentagain, Mon May-07-18 10:30 AM
I can't recall ever seeing a folly of errors like this in SAS

Feels like dude is in over his head

We are the better team with BOS injuries

I can't see how this isn't on the coach TBH

Snyder and Stevens are the new guard

I hope teams trend toward new young coaches

These old heads and retreads ain't it.
2654867, Billy Donovan is one year older than Synder. And Gentry been fantastic.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Mon May-07-18 11:26 AM

And Donovan the only coach worse than Brett Brown.

And Gentry has been a fantastic coach this playoffs.

He broke down and rebuilt his entire team mid-season,
made them playoff ready.

2655695, at least he got better throughout the series
Posted by bshelly, Thu May-10-18 12:40 PM
starting tj was not something most coaches would've done. he also deserves getting some credit for getting dario and, to a certain extent, simmons to attack more in Game 4 and 5.

bottom line is that he's absolutely one of the main reasons we lost the series, but i'm hopeful i saw some signs of growth.

Did you read the article on BB a few days ago

I really don't think it matters who our HC is

We're coaching by the numbers = mostly analytics

...but I still think he should get shitcanned...

BTW, got to watch game 4 with pops

He quoted the OP word for word.

He's not making a lot of HC decisions

2655865, No, Ben's poor play did that. But that's not the right question
Posted by bentagain, Fri May-11-18 07:25 AM
The question should be, why did the HC wait until 3-0 to make an adjustment?

Are too reliant on stats? Is the HC able to deviate completely from the template?

To spin this for BB, it's a way to make the FO complicit in the play by play decisions

They can't use the plea, we just buy the ingredients

Another obvious question...doesn't the other team have access to the same stats?

Did you read the article?

I'm certain Stevens was aware of our rotations

I do find it an interesting plea cop when assessing the 6ers HC
performance is all...

...but it doesn't feel like the traditional HC duties...feels more like using predetermined game plans without being able to adjust on the fly

That's why I don't think it matters who our HC is...it's mostly analytics.
2655866, the part of coaching we see is like 3 percent of the job
Posted by bshelly, Fri May-11-18 07:57 AM
nerds--usually white ones--always want to obsess about dumb game management shit. he wasted his time outs! he runs bad ATOs! That shit does. not. matter.

What matters is whether you keep the locker room happy, devise a system that maximizes the available talent, get guys to play team defense, and teach the young guys etc. brown's done all that shit at a really high level.

the irony of OE slagging Brown for the 3 percent shit is that the 3 percent shit is the stuff that people ALWAYS use against good black coaches like Casey and Doc.

If BB starts Thybulle to D Tatum...we've got a chance. If he starts Horford and expects him to D Brown...fuhgettaboutit

He let Tatum go HAM...then made the adjustment...then reverted back

WTF, I shouldn't have a better strategy than the HC

He leaves his best on ball defender on the bench.

The big lineup makes even less sense considering the obvious lack of Embiid's conditioning

Horford is a backup C

Brand may be on his way out too...
