2657422, I was curious how much of an outlier they might be Posted by Call It Anything, Fri May-18-18 12:53 AM
I looked at the 10 worst teams following a 100 win season in a non-expansion year in a full (non-strike shortened season) in the last 50 years:
70-71 Reds (-23 wins) 85-86 Cardinals (-22) 71-72 Orioles (-21) 11-12 Phillies (-21) 84-85 Tigers (-20) 90-91 Athletics (-19) 05-06 Cardinals (-17) 69-70 Mets (-17) 86-87 Mets (-16) 99-00 Diamondbacks (-15)
Right now the Dodgers are on pace for -40. That's unprecedented for a team that won 100+. In all of baseball history it would be the 3rd worst of all-time behind the 1914 (99 wins)/1915 (43 wins) Philadelphia Athletics and the 1934 (72 wins)/1935 (38 wins) Boston Braves.
To give it a more relatable context, the current #3 on that list is the fire sale 1997 (92 wins) to 1998 (54 wins) Florida Marlins.
