2644143, In the Year of Wakanda, Lamar Jackson is not a WR!

Comparatively speaking, looking at the advanced metrics - Jackson's numbers are on par or better than all the QBs being ranked ahead of him.

2644144, I mean, from the article
Posted by The Real, Wed Feb-21-18 10:42 AM
The 6-foot-3 Jackson is two inches taller than Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, who Polian loves and is projected to be the fifth pick of the draft to the Denver Broncos in many mock drafts.

Polian questioned Jackson's accuracy, but Jackson completed 59.1 percent of his passes in 2017, a figure higher than Wyoming's Josh Alllen (56.2 percent). Allen predicted to be a likely top-5 pick in many mock drafts. Jackson also finished with a 146.6 passer efficiency rating, far better than Allen (127.8) and on par with USC's Sam Darnold and UCLA's Josh Rosen.

2644145, allen is a fucking bum that can throw it really far.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Wed Feb-21-18 10:48 AM
he's not actually good at QBing

bad bad bad fundamentals.

Fundamentals are a major reason why Brady is better than Ryan Tannehill.

Fundamentals are why Cutler who don't give a fuck, is still a decent QB.

2644152, Would be a fair critiquue. The problem is he is being called too short
Posted by Ceej, Wed Feb-21-18 11:25 AM
While shorter, pastier, qbs are just fine.
2644354, That he's been called "short" renders the ENTIRE scouting report suspect
Posted by Orbit_Established, Fri Feb-23-18 01:04 AM

We seem to operate off the hilariously wrong idea that
racist ideas get isolated into single scouting memes.

No.

The entire report is racially tinged.

He is gone now, but this has always been the worst Cutler take. He actually DID care, a lot, and if anything often tried to do too much. He was like Brett Favre absent any outwardly discernible charisma.

But his fundamentals were iffy, they came and went. He had tremendous physical talent, if he had ever had a settled enough situation to focus on improving his fundamentals instead of just surviving behind all-time bad offensive lines, he could have been on Farve's level.

2644258, LMAO. What you said is the EXACT OPPOSITE of the truth on Cutler
Posted by Orbit_Established, Thu Feb-22-18 12:12 PM

Cutler is Exhibit A, B and C for having AWFUL fundamentals,
AWFUL attitude, but having great natural ability.

He's more "god given talent" than Lamar is. Lamar works
hard, has an amazing attitude, intangibles.

2644270, he has a stronger arm but beyond that...i dunno
Posted by cgonz00cc, Thu Feb-22-18 01:36 PM
his passing numbers at vandy werent even Denard Robinson level

and i dont mean Rich Rod coached Denard, i mean "Brady Hoke" Denard

what Jackson can do in Petrino's option shows a level of talent Jay Cutler has never shown in terms of understanding where the ball goes

i hate the phrase "arm talent", because it usially refers only to strength and overstates the natural ability of a guy like Cutler.

I like Lamar Jackson, and he is a killer college football player, but I honestly am not sure he is best off in the league as a QB.

It's a big maybe, with a lot of downside.

He has accuracy issues, bad fundamentals and looks so frail that I actually fear for him if he tries to use his athleticism like he does in college.

If he gets drafted to a really good team that gives him time and coaching to become that guy, he could be great. But if he gets drafted to a team that needs a QB right now, day one, I think he is fucked.

Tim Tebow would still be playing if he changed positions.

But also, bruh should do what he wants. I hope I'm wrong. He does have an incredible arm and when he is on, he can make any throw on the field.
2644238, My overall point is, he should get a chance
Posted by The Real, Thu Feb-22-18 09:05 AM
Not saying he'll be a star but I think he's done enough to earn a shot. Plus, as long as the delivery isn't slow like Tebow; I don't get hung up on mechanics. Not like Philip Rivers has the best mechanics or hell even Brett Favre for that matter.

2644244, RE: My overall point is, he should get a chance

He will definitely get drafted, I mean, come on. If he runs what we all think he will run at the combine, he will get his shot.

I was more talking about whether or not it's actually his best suited NFL position.
2644157, It's all a guessing game
Posted by Y2Flound, Wed Feb-21-18 11:46 AM
The quicker we realize that the less mad we'll get about bad assessments of people.

Nobody here knows if he'll be good, nobody in the league knows if he'll be good. Same with Mayfield, Donald, Rozen or anyone else.

You can take educated guesses, but it's all 50/50 with franchise QBs especially
2644267, but thats the thing for Jackson -
Posted by cgonz00cc, Thu Feb-22-18 01:14 PM
those other dudes cant contribute anywhere else. so for Rosen, Darnold, and Allen its QB or bust for both them and their teams

with Jackson, he has the physical talent to play a less "crapshoot-y" position, making it more likely he will be able to contribute "something" to his team than those other guys. if nothing else, a team knows they can get him the ball in space and he can make something happen. for a team that doesnt already have that...that seems like a sure fire bet.

i can understand why he would want to be a QB and he should. hes earned his chance. but Rosen has to die on that hill...Jackson doesnt.

2644272, Nah.

>with Jackson, he has the physical talent to play a less
>"crapshoot-y" position, making it more likely he will be able
>to contribute "something" to his team than those other guys.

Or, he can contribute playing the highest paid, feature position
in the sport, the one he's played his whole life, has practiced
his whole life, understands, where he'd be behind center, can
disrupt a game in multiple ways.

And actually: wide receiver is *plenty* crapshoot-y, as it is
full of intangibles and skills. Lamar is smart and can learn
quickly, but this silly notion that Lamar is choosing between
being a career third stringer and a Hall of Fame receiver are
LOL

And thirdly:
There are ZERO guys who HAD QB SKILLS and DIDN'T WANT to play
QB. Everyone who switched did because they *had* to, and NONE
had Lamar's arm. (as has been stated: he has a better arm than
many QBs who went first round)

>if nothing else, a team knows they can get him the ball in
>space and he can make something happen. for a team that
>doesnt already have that...that seems like a sure fire bet.

Right, which is also why it'd be cool to have someone like
that behind center.

>i can understand why he would want to be a QB and he should.
>hes earned his chance. but Rosen has to die on that
>hill...Jackson doesnt.

So because Jackson can "do other things" he...should do
those other things and not the one he wants, has demonstrated
excellence in? LMAO

I mean, I have no idea if Lamar will end up a great QB. I do
know that the arguments I'm reading as to why he shouldn't try to
play the position are almost offensive.

just that

A) he can still have a career in the NFL doing something other than QBing

B) i can see why some teams might be more interested in those other things

C) those things can get him on the field sooner
2644353, Nah, you're still embarassingly wrong

You can say that for plenty of white QBs, not sure what the
fuck that has to do with anything.

>B) i can see why some teams might be more interested in those
>other things

Right, because they aren't paying attention and are racist.

>C) those things can get him on the field sooner

Because Jackson can run and jump?

2644214, Tebow started and received chances from four teams to start....
Posted by Kira, Wed Feb-21-18 06:06 PM
LJ deserves a chance to start as a QB somewhere. Bill Polian's definition of a QB is Peyton Manning so that plays a role in his evaluation.

The position has evolved anyways and this logic should be a relic of the past. The predictable QB indicators don't work anyways. Russell Wilson out performed everyone in his draft class. Tyrod Taylor isn't 6'6 265 either. I hope Devante Kincaid gets a shot as well. Fans of QB needy teams have to look outside of the box anyways.

Jackson improved during each year. Ideally he goes to a team that sits him for a year. A good spot could be Cleveland. Sign Trevor Siemian on the cheap for a few years and develop Jackson in the meantime.

he's just another hot take guy now. a while back he said he secretly had a first round grade on Tom Brady. Tom Brady's dad didn't even a first round grade on Tom Brady.
2644302, Black / White QB evaluation in the NFL draft is still an acceptable
