"they say the arms of nicky foles would be enough to blast" - nas

predictions?

i havent really been staying up on all the pre-game hype. anything i should go check out? any important storylines come out of media week?
2641287, win or lose, the message is still the same:
Posted by Dr Claw, Sat Feb-03-18 02:45 PM
Fuck Tom Brady
Fuck The New England Peckerwoods 4 Life

I hate them more than Dallas
2641288, i predict shenanigans having something to do w/ this spread.
Posted by kinetic94761180, Sat Feb-03-18 04:11 PM
the big money on the eagles is crazy.
2641347, interesting stat: no mvp since kurt warner in 99 has won the super bowl

2641377, watch this be like: 'THE FIRST MVP IN ALMOST 20 YEARS...'

fix is in.
2641385, have ye no faith doc?
Posted by Reeq, Sun Feb-04-18 01:56 PM
2641389, too jaded by last-minute Cheatriot wins
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Feb-04-18 02:05 PM
also, been doubting all season and the Eagles defy it.

"oh, they going 9-7" NOPE 13-3, 1 seed
"oh, Peters out for the season, season over" NOPE
"oh, Wentz gone. NOW season's over" NOPE
"they can't score enough w/o Wentz to beat LA/ATL" NOPE, ATL beats LA, and Eagles squeak by
"well, they ain't beating the team that beat Brees" NOPE, GUILE

I feel like I did when OKC choked to let the 73-win Warriors go on to the Finals, almost like I did when they were down 3-1
2641400, i feel like this game is gonna be the backpedal and revision olympics
Posted by Reeq, Sun Feb-04-18 02:52 PM
'anyone who knows football could have seen this coming...'

'well bradys hand was never 100% healthy...'

'we all knew this was the most vulnerable pats team since...'

'the pats have a history of difficulty with (insert superlative) d lines...'

'anyone who has watched nick foles knows he is a lot better than he gets credit for...'

'just reaching the super bowl at age 40 is an accomplishment in itself...'

'there are no losers today...everybody stood for the anthem...'
2641348, Patriots win SB in blow out, but lose fist fight vs Eagles lol.

2641351, the only team they've blown out thus far is the Titans
Posted by Dr Claw, Sun Feb-04-18 06:34 AM
this game is going more like the Jags game and the Steeler games.

only way a blow out happens is if the Eagles kneel out every posession in forfeit.

fuck the Peckerwoods and their 5 asterisks.
2641360, If Foles is even half as good as he was against the Vikes
Posted by Marauder21, Sun Feb-04-18 10:54 AM
It will at least remain close. He'd have to really shit the bed for it to be a blowout.
2641445, I want The Eagles to win, but I'm convinced the NFL is somewhat

2641356, If Eagles win it will have to be by two scores
Posted by Musa, Sun Feb-04-18 09:46 AM
a TD and fg or two tds

Otherwise the league cheats for their most financially lucrative franchise again.
2641359, There's no good outcome for this game
Posted by Marauder21, Sun Feb-04-18 10:53 AM
The only way tonight is a W for me is if Janet Jackson sneaks onstage and knees Timberlake in the balls before flying off Fan Man style.
2641361, Pats gonna mop em up. Haters will be mad. The sun will still rise tomorrow.

Still an asshole, I usually watch something else during the half on SNF
2641391, I'm far more relaxed than I was in '05. Back then it was now or never.
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Sun Feb-04-18 02:11 PM
Now? I feel like this team will have a legit chance at the SB for many years to come. Obviously in today's NFL you want to strike while the iron is hot, but I'm not going to wallow in sorrow if they don't win this one. Bright days will follow.

As for the game....I think this is a very tough matchup for us. Brady is a master at moving his feet and getting rid of the ball quickly. Pats are superb in the screen game - which they will certainly use to neutralize our pass rush. They have smaller, quick WRs who can give us fits. Also, Gronk is the wild card. Do we double him, or do we take the chance with one DB? I think they're going to run a lot of no-huddle offense in an attempt to slow down and tire out our DL. So I can see how the PATs may give us fit. How the Pats are able to handle our DL will be the key to the game.

I think our offense *should* be just fine so long as good Foles shows up. He's a wildcard so nothing is a given. I think our offense can absolutely move the ball at will on the Pats. Our OL should get the best of their DL and our RBs should be able to keep the chains moving. We have enough weapons in the passing game to keep their defense on their toes. It will be interesting to see how Bilechick plans to attack our offense. Typically he likes to key in on one weakness and attack it. Who will that be? The obvious choice is Foles, but that could backfire if the good Foles shows up.

In going with tradition, I'll predict Eagles 27 Patriots 23
2641683, ^^^^ spot on analysis and basically exactly how the game turned out

brady kept going.

then lebron.

brady kept going.

his mad-makin' ability is unprecedented. if he wins a ring at 40 against the eagles, it might be impossible to dethrone him.

Posted by will_5198, Sun Feb-04-18 05:45 PM
which is an outright lie. note the fact it took a whole year for Brady to say anything dismissive about Trump, despite being asked repeatedly -- because everyone knew they were close.

his little bullshit "I stand for unity" quotes after he helped elect Trump mean jack shit.
2641424, he publicly distanced himself like rex ryan.
Posted by Reeq, Sun Feb-04-18 05:49 PM

2641416, Very simple to figure who will win....
Posted by DJ Wade-O, Sun Feb-04-18 05:09 PM
If our D-line gets to Brady....and either forces consistent third and long or a couple of turnovers, we will win. If we have to rely on Nick Foles to beat Belchick's D....its not happening.

He’s holding Alshon’s left arm down on the eventual int, that’s why Alshon could only get his right hand up for the attempt.

Then on 3rd and goal, mfer has a bear-hug on Alshon and he can’t even get hit arms up.

I mean cmon. I’m all for allowing physicality but you can’t let corners hold limbs.

before the game...listening to the Westwood One radio pre-game. Mike Holmgren interviewed each coach. At the end he asked Doug...how do you win this game? His first or second point was...."stay aggressive...if I've got a 4th and 1, go for it...don't handcuff my players"
2641545, it's amazing how many HC rely on "gut instinct" for those decisions...
Posted by will_5198, Sun Feb-04-18 09:54 PM
Belichick/Saban decide when they are going to go for 4th downs before every game starts. what quarter, what yard-line, what score. so when it happens it's just a script, and it just comes down to executing.

not to say Pederson didn't do that. clearly he had a plan. just bizarre how many coaches, even the best ones, just seem to wait on fourth downs and flip coins in their heads.

But I gotta say one thing. ALL the Eagles fans I know from all over the country came for the game and/or the parade. I had my Hatboro homey come out from San Fran, another South Philly cat who drove through a snow storm from Montreal, homegirls in North Carolina and Florida who came up for the game, etc etc etc. I don't think you'd see another fan base that would fly home to watch the game on TV and be thinking about a parade as underdogs. It was amazing. Obviously linked up with the OKP fam like Bomb and SPM, we also hit up a Sixers game during what might be the most glorious week in the history of Philly sports. It's unfortunate this wasn't a 1500+ reply post with all the wild shit but life goes on.

The former 2 adjusted the scheme to go RPO heavy and then Foles was indescribable man. He was seeing the entire field, incredibly accurate (only missed 1 make-able throw the entire game - to Alshon), feeling pressure and navigating it in the pocket, getting his feet set quickly, throwing off the run...the windows he was anticipating and putting the ball on a line

The Eagles beat the team that I hate the most in the Super Bowl.
13 years later.
With their backup QB, who I had declared trash years earlier.
With a coach that was a disciple of a coach of whom I had heavy doubts.
After key injuries that usually derail a season.

They beat the Falcons, who I thought they couldn't outscore.
They beat the Vikings, the best defense in the conference.
THEY DERAILED Y'ALL'S FUCKING GOAT'S USUAL LAST MINUTE DRIVE ON A SACK FUMBLE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED INCOMPLETE BACK IN 2001 WITH A DUDE US DIEHARDS THOUGHT COULD BE A BUST!!!!!

Giants I -- Helmet catch, dropped game-winning interception, but most of all Brady and the best offense in NFL history only scoring 14 points

And

Would the game have turned out how it did if Cooks stays in the game?

Who knows? Maybe? Foles made A LOT of great throws. The missed tackles were a bigger problem.

Doubt it. Brady's passing wasn't the problem. In the second half he marched down the field twice throwing to Gronk and then Amendola .

I’m just now really going over the throws that Foles made tonight...and it’s fucking unreal what he did out there tonight. The ball placement, anticipation, and resetting his feet was on the level of AR vs Pitt in the 2010 super bow. Just next level, in the zone type shit.

My fav play of the game was the 4th and 1 at the 50 - obv a huge play that we have to have and Nick gets pressure in his face but he calmly takes a side-step to his left to buy some time for the crossing route to Ertz. As Foles is getting hit by a secondary rusher, he still places that throw.

this is the guy who couldn't hit a damn thing in the red zone on those Chip Kelly teams vs. Green Bay and San Fran.

but that 4th and 1... my god. The other ones that got me were some of those throws to Agholor. even that one that got PI'd into an INT was a throw that was right to Jeffrey and would have gone for 6

My God does this feel sweet. To win it all against the Patriots when Brady was dealing, wow. Just wow. That go ahead drive in the 4th was just so characteristically the 2017 Eagles - smart, methodical, and most of all, BALLSY. I so underestimated Doug Pederson this year, but he flat out out coached the league this year. He’s the real COY. Mike Lombardi and a slew of other NFL “experts” needs to eat a big ass helping of crow right today.

One of the best moments for me during the game was watching Duce and Dougie celebrate after Foles’s TD catch. Although this team has their own unique identity, there are markings of past Eagles players and coaches on this team. This one was for Jerome Brown, Jaws, Wilbert Montgomery, Seth Joyner, BDawk, BWest, Chad Lewis, Eric Allen, and all the other past greats who bled green and desperately wanted to bring a SB home to Philly.

And again, much love to all the Eagles fans here on this board who I engaged in so many conversations through the years. We got our ring and no one can ever take that back!!!
2641723, I generally don't get overly sentimental with sports but...
Posted by MarkyMark, Mon Feb-05-18 09:10 AM
my 8-year-old son is high-functioning autistic. One of his quirks is he cannot handle people around him screaming and yelling. I have never really been able to watch Eagles games with him. He usually watches upstairs with my wife while me and my brothers/dad watch it in my basement. Last night he watched the SuperBowl with my wife at my in-laws while I was with my dad and three brothers at dad's house. Since we were basically around the corner I was able to celebrate a little with him right after the game, then a little with the neighbors when we drove home.

After we are done hanging out we head home. Little man is standing at the closet hanging his coat and just starts crying. I ask him what's wrong and he says "I'm just so happy I don't know what to do". I hugged him and we sobbed it out for a few seconds, then he gave me a high-five and went to bed.

All the past 3-decades of disappointment - Fog Bowl, Randall ACL tear the year we have GOAT-caliber D, the NFC Championship chokes, Cheatriots/Spy-gate SuperBowl loss... it was just pushing this out into the future so I could share this moment with my son.

Congrats to the Eagles. Well-played and well-coached all around. Great game.

One thought is that I guarantee that the Corey Clement TD catch is overturned as incomplete if this were any game but the SB. And IMO that will force the NFL's hand to properly address the rule this offseason.

100% guarantee in the regular season that (and Ertz probably) get overturned. But the league did the right thing here. Fuck the catch rule. Fuck shitty precedent. Let the players play, especially in the championship game.
2641871, Ertz was definitely a catch
Posted by 40thStreetBlack, Mon Feb-05-18 04:31 PM
Clement's was more of a judgement call if the movement of the ball constituted loss of control, but don't think it was definitive enough to overturn the call of the field even if it was in the regular season, but depends on who was making the call I suppose.
2641878, He took two steps and dropped it when he hit the ground

99 times of out 100 it's called no catch.

It's a stupid rule and would be a bad call and I'm glad they didn't call that. But in the regular season it's no catch.

Posted by Dr Claw, Thu Feb-08-18 01:13 PM
I remember specifically there was a football reason discussed by Pats fans/analysts before the game, can't remember where I read it originally, but it's kind of detailed here:

https://nesn.com/2018/02/now-we-know-why-patriots-valued-stephon-gilmore-over-malcolm-butler/

Gilmore was just a better choice from a football perspective
(He interefered like shit, but generally he defended Alshon well during the game); I remember them saying he would be a BAD match up for the Eagles' receivers.

2642515, That article was about contracts tho
Posted by legsdiamond, Thu Feb-08-18 01:27 PM
I didn’t see anything that justifies benching someone who played 100% of the snaps for 2 guys with limited snaps.

Especially benching Butler right before kick off.
2642634, yeah, I can't find the real discussion
Posted by Dr Claw, Thu Feb-08-18 03:12 PM
but the numbers don't lie, if he was giving up more yards and TDs over time and they were about to go against a team with the kind of weapons the Eagles have in the passing game they might as well have gone w/Gilmore
2642641, Right. "I'm gonna lose the Super Bowl cause I'm mad about his contract sitch"
Posted by Brew, Thu Feb-08-18 03:26 PM
Even for Belichick that's next level stubbornness and fuckery.

But I can't even FATHOM a reason you'd intentionally give your team an unnecessary distraction going into a very winnable game where all you needed is ONE stop (which is exactly what he did) so ... maybe that *is* the case.

Fuck Belichick man.
