2639490, Most good ideas are preposterous, sparky.

Because most things suck.

>Would one only want to hear musicians talk about music?

Actually, the best music critics have always been people
who have actually played an instrument or two. This has
been the case for decades.

And hearing elite musicians comment on other elite
musicians would pretty much be the best thing to ever
happen to music if we could organize it.

The reason it hasn't happened is because musicians are
busy and because nerdy journalists are the gatekeepers,
will continue to make themselves relevant.

>You only want to hear writers talks about books?

Actually, book critics are, by definition, writers. And
talented writers write good book reviews because they
are talented writers.

So...you should have thought this through.

>You only want filmmakers to talk about film?

Hearing elite filmmakers talk about other films would
be breathtaking. I wish it could happen.

And actually many good critics are filmmakers.

But that analogy doesn't work for other reasons.

>Boo bad journalism, cheer good journalism, that's it. But
>outsider perspectives have their own value.

And in sports, flabby nerds have dominated the voices
to their exclusion of athletes. That's unfair and fans
suffer because of it.

There are NO....NO....NO journalists who can talk about
basketball better than Isiah Thomas. None.
