Once again...

I'll put together some nonsensical rankings and use the site rankings or something and you all can do yours and we'll get the SportsNation poll for the first post of the season (NEXT WEEK WOOOHOOOO!!!).

I can tell you right now my top 3 are:

1) Shawn
2) Me
3) Basa

And that's based on the same formula I've used for the last 2 years lol

It's cool. I'm just trying to get on your level champ.

I feel like the 2003 Cubs. Could have did it before everyone (Red Sox, Cards, White Sox) but blew it. DSTL played one season like he was a Russian bot planted to sabotage my #3. Then greasy a** LABeat slid in, stole it, cashed out and checked out. Disgraceful blip he was.

But yeah, I'm coming. No worries.

Zach Randolph

2625340, I really wanted WCS. Got skipped, and ended up with Enes.

I probably would've tried to get both, but that would've been unlikely.

Ben Simmons - Theo was on him EARLY
Dennis Smith - Wanted Batum before him though.
Willy Hernangomez or Dedmon...thanks Cenario!
Dion Waiters - his new fascination with passing has made him a pleasant surprise in this. He balled out for me last year until he got hurt.
ZaZa - Completely forgot about him though. He's who I should have instead of Dirk.
Milos Teodosic - Theo makes me sick how often he does this to me. lol
John Collins - This is who I should have instead of Noah. Had I been smarter and gotten Zaza, I would have done this likely.

Those are my two biggest mistakes in this draft.

>Guys I really wanted that I got
Donovan Mitchell
Kyle Kuzma
Malcolm Brogdon

>Guys that I drafted that I didn't really want
Noah
Dirk

Ugh...I think they are gonna either surprise me with 65-70 games of 15-25 mpg high efficiency or completely suck and force me to the waiver for support. I'd bank on the latter but we'll see. Dirk looked washed in his last preseason game. Like his feet were anchored by 200lbs ankle weights. Made him look like a confused old man in a pick up game at the Y with 18-20 yr olds. SMH.

Its funny cause this year theres a bunch of rookie pgs to speculate on from ball down top milos. But theres something about each of them that didnt make sense for me.

Im high on the nets and DLO and Lin in real life, but I think theyre going to split a lot of their stats--especially assists. The good thing is neither will play more than 30 mpg though.

getting Russy really allowed me to focus on my bigs early. I went for high FPPM with flexibility where I could.

I wanted Gobert at C but im okay with getting Embiid 17 picks later
2625385, My rookie thoughts
Posted by DJR, Tue Oct-10-17 03:59 PM
I was going to take the following with my next pick if they were still available:

George
Melo
Russell
Saric

Had a tough time deciding between KD, Lebron, and AD but figured I’m good either way.

Was happy to get the following when I got them:
Waiters
Zaza
Noel

May have reached but liked the potential upside:
Myles
Ingram

Not sure how to feel on Klay. Picked him in round 6, but seems like he’s not all that valuable in this format.

Hard to find guards that did anything last year in this format in the second half of the draft. I wanted to grab MCW with my 13th pick but he was already taken.

I avoided all rookies thinking that they’re typically not very efficient.

there were other guards to go with there other than Klay.

Just looking at the guards who went next...LAmb and Brogdon are better. Oladipo has higher upside.

Yeah, I mean.....that’s the biggest instance where I couldn’t get past the standard fantasy league thinking, or the fact that Klay is an all star and Lamb struggles to get on the court for long stretches every season. I saw the 0.96 in a lot of minutes....and still picked him. I imagine he’s the put up a 1.6 when he’s hot and a 0.4 when he’s not type too.
2625466, eh...dont' think you'll get too many 1.6s from him.

Thought I could have waited one more pick on IT, Lou Willz (whom I had queued up ahead of DF) and a couple other guards. But I'm happy with a first rotation of Corny-Ass Dwight, Adams, Tristan, Millsap, Melo, Harden, Ariza and Goomba. And I got that Talisman Thabo back in the ro.

Guess we won't need a SportsNation post this year

Smh.

Nobody else doing rankings or draft recap hot takes?

Have the mighty fallen?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rankings Methodology:
Avg based on last season's numbers + rookie potential + rookie risk + injury risk + injuries + new situations (+/-)
1) Ghostown DJ's (Shawn) - Has a lot of high efficient guys plus Russ, who will take a step back but will still do numbers. The potential on the roster is amazing (Embiid, RJax AND his backup, Ulis, Lance and LeVert). Only major concerns are that only a hand full of his guys are guaranteed to start and Embiid being healthy.
2) Chicago-East St. Louis (ChiESL) Markrakanens (Commish) - Would be #1 if I didn't make 2 key mistakes which I've already detailed. But the team as is has explosion (Cuz and Jordan), high efficiency, depth, flexibility and the 2nd best ace in the hole in Batum (who's injury status was upgraded from 8-12 weeks to 6-8 weeks). Injuries are a slight concern (Noah, Dirk, Wright), and some slippage concerns (Teague) but the potential of Rozier, Brogdon, Mitchell and Russell balance it out.
3) Washington DC Brunchers (Basa) - Giannis at #1 was keen. He might play with a chip on his shoulder given his dad passed during preseason as well. Rest of the roster is packed with good efficiency, even if heavy on the Duke homerism (4 players).
4) Chino Hills Big Ballers (Ryan) - Gobert, Curry and Kemba is a solid core. The rest of the roster is hit or miss on potential this year (old, rooks, new situations). Still a top team with moderate supplemental production though.
5) Waiters Isle Rappity Raps (Rook-DJR) - Damn rook built a solid team with good depth and nice potential (Ingram, Murray). He'll find a way to ruin it though.
6) Skid Row SoulHonky (Rook-cgonz00cc) - Still hasn't changed his team name Smh. Top 4 could compete with anybody (Draymond, Drummond, DeRozan, Schroeder) and good potential (Skal, Harris) but he's a rookie. He'll blow it.
7) Englewood GunViolence (Rook-DVS)- Davis, George, Bledsoe, Aldridge, McCollum. Nice...if Bledsoe plays more than 65 games, Aldridge doesn't continue to look like he's in rapid decline and the bench doesn't need to be as consistent. Some potential here but again...rookie.
Yup...all 3 rookies in the top 8 suckas.
8) Coney Island Bad Boys VIII (Deputy Commish) - Thon Maker, Ju Randle and Rondo will make or break this team. CP3 probably won't carry it as much as he's carried wobbly teams in the past. Might be some struggles out the gate as well.
9) Restown Smerf City Slamz (Smerf) - Whiteside, Leonard, Lin and Hayward are solid. Barton has good potential. Outside of that, bench is a bit questionable.
10) Northeast DC Trade Guerillas (Magilla) - Dwight, Milsap, Melo and Harden...4 guys with new situations (Harden having CP3 handle the ball more). Could be great and solid as a core. Could take a step back production wise. Also the bench is basically trash. Casualty of getting skipped in the draft I suppose.
11) ex. Detroit ex. Pistons (Ceej) - G Core is super solid, Good C in Vucevic, F's are eeeeeeeeeeehhh and C depth is dangerously thin.
12) Tribeca HiBrows (Ernie) - Defending and 3x champ's team is probably a C away from real contention. Has some good high Fppm potential but might not field enough depth to put up consistent higher end numbers. DSJ + his other two lead guards might prove to be very nasty though.
13) Oakland Cardpullers (Mr. Hood) - Hood got some good anchors (Bron, Gasol, Lowry) then just misplaced his strategy and went for names over production. Beal, Wiggins and Devin Booker need to take drastic leaps to justify their drafting and Tatum needs to be high Fppg, moderate production to save this team from an up and down season (more down than up).
14) Stanley Forms a Wall (Boogs) - Boogs said this was his worst draft ever and he's probably right. Ball and Fultz need to be stat hounds and minimize TO's for him to have any punchers chance. Lot to ask of two rookie PG's.
15) L.A. Major Keys (RBO) - RBO OD'd on rookies and Kentucky players. 5 of his 12 man roster has never played an NBA regular season game. LOTS of risk. Good risk in most cases but hard to stomach. His top 3 (KAT, Rubio and Jrue) aren't solid enough to absorb that risk.
16) Theodelphia Theventy-Thixers (Theo) - To be fair, this isn't the worst team in the league. It's just the team with the worst starting point. IT is the best ace in the hole on the board and when he returns, it'll be a boon. But...Milos, Jackson and Simmons are high potential rooks. I full expect theo to rise but right now, team put up 239 last year sans IT. Those rooks better be GOOOOD.
2625580, Rondo is the best ace in the hole...you trippin
You should really stop ranking yourself top 3 every year, its getting sad.
If DSJ is legit, and even does say 1.1 my guards will be hard to fuck with. Add a few more minutes for FREEBOBAN, continued improvement from WCS who ended the year on tear last season, a healthy Favors and Im set at center. Blake running the offense might move him towards 1.5. And most importantly, I'll be wasting no minutes with Middleton and Covington protecting the bottom of the lineup. You'll likely waste 10 F minutes on opening night though.
2625608, 282 is your team potential based on last yrs numbers
Posted by auragin_boi, Thu Oct-12-17 04:16 PM
Assuming Blake and Boban increase a lil, we have to also assume a few guys will slip (Nene, Ibaka and Covington are ripe given age for the first two and new pieces in philly). WCS has potential, I'll give you that but I'm not putting a ton of stock into 5 games or so. Over the last 20 games he was 1.2. I think that's doable. Fox, Jackson, Heild Skal, Randolph and Hill all gonna eat into his opportunities.
>You should really stop ranking yourself top 3 every year, its
It's what the system says based on the prior years numbers. *Shrug* I ain't putting a gang of effort into this.
2625617, I stopped at "last years numbers"
Posted by ErnestLee, Thu Oct-12-17 04:35 PM
Then started again. If I cared about last years numbers, I wouldn't have drafted Favors.
>Assuming Blake and Boban increase a lil, we have to also
>assume a few guys will slip (Nene, Ibaka and Covington are
>ripe given age for the first two and new pieces in philly).
Spoken like a Dirk owner. And Ibaka already slipped, although his Toronto numbers were way better than his Orlando numbers. A full off season, and maybe he continues that. But I'll take 1.1 in 30 minutes. Not sure how new pieces will prevent Covington from getting two steals a game. But again, he's protection, not a cog.
What type of funny-style rationale is this? 4.5 boards, 0.6 blks, 0.7stls? That made him the 6th pick? Or are you basing it off of the last 20 games of the season when they were pretty much just tanking? See, new circumstances don't lend to what you're talking about. Dude barely played 18 mins a game last year (his mpg actually declined last year vs his first year, even with the uptick after Cuz was traded). He's gonna get burn but I don't think his production will be 6th pick good.
But hey, you have won this thing 3 times...so if you're right, you're right. *shrug*
Shouldn't have to explain this at all. He was drafted, based on his skill set BEFORE the draft. Which is boards, blocks and steals. Which translates well to our format. You new?
Or are you basing
>it off of the last 20 games of the season when they were
Pretty sure the Kings are always tanking.
You missed the point with the 6th pick thing. But yea, 30 minutes per after Cuz trade. Think he's a big part of their plans. Noone will be shocked at 1.25 in 28 minutes a game.
Base.
>
I'm talking about players being "injury prone" til they're not. And not drafting scared based on the past.
I conducted a phone interview and had a 1hr IT review during the live draft. I have no empathy.
2625759, That doesn't explain deron williams at all.
Posted by Cenario, Fri Oct-13-17 03:54 PM
2625823, he was still listed as (CLE) on the draft page
Posted by magilla vanilla, Sat Oct-14-17 11:47 AM
And a quick GN search didn't say he was retired/looking for a team.
When you have a 30 swcond window to catch up on picks, these things happen.
2625825, oh you don't prep....explains alot.
Cuz on nights Embiid takes off, Quicny Acy will be his No. 2 F.
2625613, lol...maybe, maybe not
Posted by auragin_boi, Thu Oct-12-17 04:20 PM
If Embiid gets 55-65 games, I think Shawn will be ok.
2625620, His teams fine
Posted by ErnestLee, Thu Oct-12-17 04:45 PM
But he has 4 players I wouldnt even consider rostering if I had two more spots. Doesnt scream top dog to me.
Posted by auragin_boi, Fri Oct-13-17 01:17 PM
your squad has a good core. You'll probably need to tweak the bench as you go though.
The issue is, you're a rookie and rookie's tend to lose about 3-5 games just off of bad lineups, not knowing how to assess talent for the format (this ain't cbs, espn or yahoo) and general lack of pressedness (or rather, tap-out-itis).
Some get lucky and actually draft well, win a fair amount of games and then get fat and happy, never tweak and lose due to it.
We've had ONE rookie champ in 12 yrs.
If most of the seasoned guys had your roster, they'd have a shot at winning...but you? As a rookie?
That's like giving a teenager a their first car and not expecting at least a few dings on it that first year.
2625736, lol. i love it
Posted by DVS, Fri Oct-13-17 02:05 PM
we'll see.
I'm the son of a degreed mathematician.
2625747, The King? Well, like Elvis, you're going to have a blue Christmas this season
Posted by magilla vanilla, Fri Oct-13-17 02:38 PM
You'll be saying "ah, well, ah, well, ah, well" to explain your low scores
Gonna be dancing past a losing record
Gonna be all shook up by your losses
Gonna be shooting out your monitor on a daily basis
And in the end, your season is going to go straight down the toilet.
