Michelle Beadle will host the NBA pregame and halftime studio shows for ABC and ESPN through the NBA Finals.

Beadle, who has been handling that role during ESPN's Wednesday and Friday regular-season games, will lead the network's coverage throughout the playoffs, including ESPN's telecasts of the Western Conference finals.


She replaces former host Sage Steele, who will be leading ESPN's "SportsCenter on the Road" coverage that includes the finals.

ESPN says Tuesday that Beadle will continue to serve as a co-host for "SportsNation."

Michelle Beadle just starting doing coverage for the NBA the past season or two, right? I was assuming ESPN allowed Steele to do those political statement posts on social media, so I'm surprised they would check her like this. Not to say I support her opinions, but it's interesting to see her get demoted like this.

I've seen Bomani Jones on multiple occasions say that ESPN tells him not to speak on certain political subjects on his twitter feed. So you think she went outside of ESPN's permission to make her social media posts Outside of her twitter and instagram posts, I've seen her host a Facebook video chat with Jalen Rose that delved into that whole Andre Iguodala issue. And I believe it was in the ESPN offices, so I kind of find it hard to believe she wouldn't do all those social media posts without ESPN's explicit consent.

But ESPN will give you the talk after you say something, just like they did with Bo and the Caucasians shirt. And if you don't get right after they tell you to, you're done. That's what got Simmons and Schilling--after ESPN told them to cut it out, they kept on, and the company fired them for insubordination.

Sage had at least two incidents where she waded into waters she shouldn't have. I'm sure she got a warning, and she ignored it, and she's not getting a third chance. ESPN had a quicker trigger with her than with Simmons or Schilling, certainly, but that's probably a function of her much lower status on ESPN's totem poll and the fact that the dumb shit she said alienated the NBA's core viewership.

Put more simply, Sage Steele ain't shit, so she got he quick hook.

Hard to believe she'd be that vain to go against Disney/ABC/ESPN like that, but if so, she's a complete idiot.

Not to mention totally unprofessional.

that goes on behind the scenes at ESPN must be interesting, even more so given that ESPN has been suffering for ratings and subscribers these days. To be a fly on that Bristol wall.

All of the non-technical positions and ranks
are mostly the result of some white guy's opinion, which is
why it's that way...it's a recipe for pettiness disaster

This is why I always side with athletes being able to
have these jobs, because they've at least demonstrated
that they are CLEARLY good at something

What are the vast majority of these non-athlete people
who work there good at?

I mean, I like a lot of them, but what are they really
good at?

I mean, Jemele and Mike only happened because they
were were SMART ENOUGH to start podcasting on their
OWN TIME, and got a following

will be unbearable if that's the direction ABC wants to go with that broadcast. It's cool to go that route with a less meaningful regular season game, but not for the grand stage of the Finals.

Like I've said before, I don't agree with Steele's politics, but at least she was a straight person against Jalen and his cornball trying too hard to be funny antics.

I'm proud to be ignorant of anything pertaining to First Take because I can't stand Screaming A. I only noticed the change in hosts because I was watching clips of LaVar Ball's comedy hour when he was a guest. I could only watch about 3 minutes of the 15 or so minute YouTube video because of all the shouting.

In general, I wouldn't advise folks to date people they work with, but it appears Jalen has refined tastes since the host doesn't appear to be a complete moron, in addition to how naturally beautiful she is.

Like I've said numerous times in this thread, I don't agree with her social media posts and political views at all, but I can't clap to another black person getting put closer to that unemployment line, much less getting publicly getting embarrassed like Sage was. Even more so since she does a good job when on-air, and I actually prefer her than Beadle since I suspect her and Jalen Rose being on air at the same time will be a complete cornball fest, assuming ABC/ESPN/Disney wants to move in that direction.

The lack of basic chemistry between her and Jalen was palpable,
though. Jalen don't like her and it did render the show stale.

But more than that, she went off the rails politically,

Hopefully she didn't take down the video in the link above, but it's a video she did with Jalen Rose after the whole discussion with her, Jalen, and Wilbon in regards to their thoughts on Andre Iguodala's post game comments a few weeks ago. They appear to be amicable and if Jalen Rose didn't like her, I don't think dude would be willing to spend the 15 or so minutes it took for them to have that video chat on Sage Steele's facebook account.
