2562922, Oklahoma @ Houston
Posted by SeV, Sat Sep-03-16 11:49 AM
Yal bout to see why these coaches don't want Houston in the BIG12

There's so much talent down there it's crazy

And they love their hometown

They would never leave

It would pretty much be Miami U in the 90s

Not even an exaggeration

They were in the SWC. Had a dynamic and innovative offense. And got left when the big 12 started. It wasn't because of the being a threat.

Three years of probation didn't help.

Then offering nothing in tv markets.

And then this fiasco in 2001 didn't earn them any favors

2562947, Annd what does that have to do with 2016??

I mean cool history lesson but I really don't see ur point

____________

Dallas Cavericks LETS GO!!
2562955, Houston is a good team.
Posted by MEAT, Sat Sep-03-16 02:36 PM
But you're incorrect with why they're not being in the Big 12 initially and a poor fit to be added. The new additions focus around providing TV markets to expand a cable offering. The Houston market is already tapped.
2562956, Lol the BIG12 lost the television market to the SEC when TX A&M left
Posted by SeV, Sat Sep-03-16 03:00 PM
So that theory makes no sense

It's recruiting bruh

Sorry
____________

Dallas Cavericks LETS GO!!
2562958, That's not how TV markets work. FS1 is still in every house in Houston.
Posted by MEAT, Sat Sep-03-16 03:07 PM
It's not about the people watching. It's about the number of subscriptions.
2562967, Subscriptions to what?
Posted by SeV, Sat Sep-03-16 03:29 PM
Edit:BIG12 network doesn't exist anymore. Didn't even know that

____________

Dallas Cavericks LETS GO!!
2562970, But I still fail to see how tapping the 4th biggest media market in the U.S
Posted by SeV, Sat Sep-03-16 03:39 PM
Will not positively impact cable subscriptions
____________

Dallas Cavericks LETS GO!!
2562972, Because that market is already tapped

Big 12 Network never got off the ground
The service providers don't make money on how many people tune in, they make money on how many people have to purchase their packages. It's how Maryland became and option for the Big10, not because they were a good team, but because that got them a few quarters for every cable television subscriber in the DC to Baltimore region.
So for the providers they want large markets that they're not currently in, which is why teams like Colorado St, BYU, and Cinn are in the discussion.

For the teams, they want bodies. If they can pick up two new teams, they get another negotiating chip for their portion of the cable rights. It's a money option first.

Secondly it becomes about academics. Sports partnerships lead to academic partnerships. Which is why Texas and Oklahoma to the Big 10 were even floated, while Texas to the SEC was not. It would diminish their academic standing.

After that it's a mix of things, culture, recruiting (the big prize after Texas isn't more Texas, it's California), additional sports (Big 12 is pretty good at basketball), long term stability, voting power within the conference ... it goes on.

Houston is in consideration, and still may make the conference. But I gave you reasons why they weren't included initially, why they weren't in consideration after, and why they're not the first choices in the future. None of which is fear.
2562977, Eh I get it
Posted by SeV, Sat Sep-03-16 05:40 PM
But if u think OU,OKS,KU, Kstate as well as TCU ain't fearing this then I don't kno what to tell u

From what I'm reading it looks like UT is on board

____________

Dallas Cavericks LETS GO!!
2563006, UT wants a voting partner.
Posted by MEAT, Sat Sep-03-16 09:54 PM
Those other schools aren't really getting folks from Houston. TCU should have Dallas on lock. But they don't.

I can't call it.
2562946, What kind of buttfuckery was that?

2562973, if Charlie Strong gets fired next offseason...that job is Hermans
Posted by guru0509, Sat Sep-03-16 03:56 PM
actually...any job available will be Hermans for the taking after this season is over ...

USC fucked up big time by not going after him.
2562982, Not just Strong but Stoops could be in trouble
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-03-16 06:17 PM
If Oklahoma doesn't bounce back and has a disappointing season it might be time for an amiable split between Stoops and Oklahoma and I would not be surprised to see Herman replace him.

Yes, if Strong doesn't have a good season and if ND beats Texas tomorrow like they did last year then the chatter on Texas sports radio to replace Strong with Herman will loud on Monday.
2563029, I dont think Stoops will ever be in trouble
Posted by guru0509, Sat Sep-03-16 11:42 PM
that job is his until he wants to leave, i just dont see OU forcing him out...

he could get tired and want to seek new pastures but thats the only way i see him leaving norman
