I only see 3 players who at and above their talent level and reputations. Kyrie, KD and PG. The rest of these dudes been terrible.

KD shooting 60 from the field and 60 behind the line. Leading the team in scoring. 2:1 dimes to TOs ratio. leading in blocks and tied for steals. Nah...ain't nothing else to be said. He doing his part.

i see why KD went to GS now. he's faded and he knows it. i suspected it when i watched him in the playoffs settling for all those turn around- fade away jumpers off 1 or 2 dribbles, and now it seems clear. he doesn't go to the hole nearly as much as he used to, nor is he nearly as effective and explosive in the open court. the injuries and his fear of future injuries have fucked KD's game up, mentally and physically.

Draymond sucks outside of that GS system. his lack of athleticism, an inconsistent J, lack of scoring ability and lack of post game are all being exposed. he does not belong on this team.

Kyle Lowry does NOT belong on this team.

Cousins' struggles are mostly due to Coach K. he's never been a rim protector, but maybe someone should remind Coach K and the rest of team USA that Cousins averaged 27 pts per game last season. you'd think since there are NO elite playmakers on this team and no chemistry in the half court offense, it might be a good idea to GIVE HIM THE FUCKING BALL IN THE POST and let him get off.. which may- brace yourself for this high science- which may force opponents to double team him or at least draw the defense in, and open things up on the perimeter.

another suggestion for the all time great coach who happens to have his head up his ass right now-- it might not be the wisest move in the world for the defensive guards to go over the top of ball screens set 10 feet behind the fucking 3pt line. ...and maybe when little annoying, effective guards like Holbert (or whatever the fuck the French dude's name was) are carving your defense up... maybe you should double team the little fuckers when they come off ball screens (the ones set *within* 25 ft of the basket) and at least see if they can handle that type of pressure.

Also he's not going to push himself trying to win in FIBA tournaments anymore, like in 2010 or 2012. It was obvious when he bailed on the team after Paul George injured himself in scrimmage. Been there, done that for him at this point.

Coach thought Marshall would be ready, and he wasn't-- at all. Which left the team with *zero* interior presence, which is what led to Jabari playing so much on the inside. On top of that, Jabari and Rodney were both *awful* defenders-- among the worst defenders at Duke over the last two decades. I attribute some of Jabari's terrible D to playing out of position... but yeah. We had major roster issues there.

His main problem this year is roster-related too. But I don't think struggling to get a few NBA All-Stars to change their NBA roles for international play is indicative of dementia. Just a guess-- I'm not a doctor.

they are thin at the pg spot and the 4, but that shouldn't matter with all the talent they got. now that said, i.m.o. KD is far from 2012 form- physically and mentally- so that's a huge dent in the talent equation, but STILL the roster is filled with NBA all stars, and there's almost no one at or near that level on these other rosters, save maybe the Gasols and maybe 1 or 2 others who i'm not thinking of. the other r.o.w. former all-stars are ol as dirt.

now i'm not a genius or nothin, but when a coach is struggling to get a few NBA All-Stars to change their NBA roles for international play... and especially when they are struggling to find any rhythm in their halfcourt offense- which is most of the time- ... then the logical thing to do is implement a game plan that focuses on GETTING THE DAMN BALL INSIDE TO YOUR FUTURE HALL OF FAME BIG MAN, AND PLAY INSIDE OUT, which would naturally open up the perimeter shooters and create more driving lanes from scrambling defenders.

...but i guess that's too much for the best coaches in the world to figure out. or maybe since they are the best coaches in the world, i'm just a fucking idiot for suggesting they do something different when running an offense that almost totally neglects passing inside has failed them for 3 games straight :/

... while I'm sure you're not an idiot, I'm also fairly confident that if it were as simple as "feed the ball, shots open up, boom," then the combined minds of K, Boeheim, and Thibodeau would have considered it and given it a go at least once.

I always just assume when it comes to coaching with a reputation for winning that they're seeing things in practices and scouting reports that I don't. Lord knows I question K (and many other winning coaches) several times a year for not playing X or using defensive scheme Y or giving the ball too often to Z... but what the fuck do I know? Maybe I'm right and they're fucking up, or maybe, in their countless additional hours with the game and the players, they're seeing something that I don't and trying what they're trying for a reason, and whether that reason pays off or not is up in the air any given night.

As said elsewhere, I'm more convinced that it's an effort/ego issue than a game-planning issue. If a couple of the players played a little better defense or moved the ball a little better-- they don't even need huge changes in effort! just little ones!-- then USA is winning double digits every game and none of this ever comes up.

they haven't tried even for more than 1 possession per quarter to get the ball inside, even after nearly losing 3 games straight. so in my warped mind, that's fucked up coaching.
