2554253, Breaking: KD apologizes to Bron; heralds him as founding father
Posted by Vex_id, Mon Jul-04-16 05:47 PM
Kevin Durant apologized to Lebron James today:

http://i.imgur.com/t94RU32.jpg

He was wrong. He too wanted to get hot off of the sophomoric #Kang hate frenzy in 2010 and failed to see the larger picture: Lebron James both founded and enshrined an enlightenment period of heightened Players Rights that has created a paradigm shift in the NBA.

They all praised KD for playing by the old rules - and in turn - he turned his back on convention and jettison'd ship in unprecedented fashion. He apologizes as only now he realizes the courage of Lebron James: Kang carried the cross so that KD can have nice teammates.

Problem is: Lebron went to a Miami team that was on the brink of perennial mediocrity (much like they are now). Swept from the 1st round of the playoffs in 2009 when D. Wade was the Alpha - and the franchise was saved by Lebron's shift to Miami - instantly turning them from an afterthought into a powerhouse dynasty.

Golden State? *Already* a built champion; a historic team. They have won without KD - they don't need him; he needs them. White flags drawn. What's worse? 3-1 lead in the WCF - and you couldn't get it done. An arch rival destroys you and then assimilates you accordingly.

These things aren't the same. But one thing is certain: Kevin Durant was wrong - and he apologizes to Lebron James today for not realizing the genius aforethought and founding father prophecy of Lebron James - who invoked the 23rd Amendment in 2010:

Players Rights > Franchise Rights

Citizens United was overturned by Justice James and the world was never the same.

You were young, KD. Apology accepted.

2554263, I get you, dogg. But, KD's franchise gave him an ARMY for year
Posted by Basaglia, Mon Jul-04-16 05:58 PM

it was HIM that let tony allen muscle his ass out to 30 feet when catching the ball.

it was HIM who didn't match bron's intensity in 2012.

it was HIM who didn't stop golden state's run in game 6 less that 6 weeks ago. That was HIM.

2554273, Oh Absolutely. That's why the irony is too rich to ignore.
Posted by Vex_id, Mon Jul-04-16 06:05 PM
Bron was crucified in 2010 for going to a team where he still had to *build* a dynasty nearly from the ground-up. That Miami team was ass in 2009. Wade as "the guy" barely led them to an 8th seed; swept in 1st round by Boston. Bron had to create the dynasty with Bosh & Wade - reconstructing the whole team.

KD is going to a mansion already built - and you're right: he had serious help in OKC. They had all the pieces - but it was KD who couldn't go into that extra gear - yet the criticism on him was luke-warm - because they loved that he seemed to play by the old rules.

No Country For Old Men in the modern NBA. KD is riding off the pioneering that Bron did - but unlike Bron in 2010, this decision lacked foresight and took zero courage. It's a lose-lose for his legacy. He wins? Well shit - you *had* to with that team. But if he can't win?

YIKES.

He literally has to win 4/5 titles in GS to justify this move.

Agreed. No way he shouldn't have bodied Tony Allen

>it was HIM who didn't match bron's intensity in 2012.
That's just false. Your boy HARDEN was the one to blame for that. KD balled, but Harden played like ass

>it was HIM who didn't stop golden state's run in game 6 less
>that 6 weeks ago. That was HIM.
Come on man. Game 7 was more on Russy but Game 6? Klay went berserk in that game...if you want to say KD came up small in the 4th quarter then I can't disagree with that. But so did the whole team (even though he and Russy took all the shots)

But 2012 is on Harden
2554364, Must be nice.

2554374, Bron Got the Same Pass
Posted by RexLongfellow, Mon Jul-04-16 09:39 PM
Nobody blamed him for losing last year or in 2007. Bron only gets blamed if his team is better than the team he lost to.

I'll admit that the heat he gets for losing is FAR greater than everyone else, which is unfair. Steph should STILL be getting roasted. The irony of the whole situation is both Steph and KD blew 3-1 leads and caught less heat than Lebron
2554458, c'mon man - you just admitted he gets criticized *more*

One is surly and had to join a 73 win team to get a ring,

Meanwhile Bron stays putting an entire city through college.

2554321, KD will forever be the Action Bronson to LBJ's Ghostface to me
Posted by MothershipConnection, Mon Jul-04-16 07:41 PM
I realized today that I'll forever be an irrational sports fan and I'll own it.

Say what you want about Lebron but he's always given us the highest of highs and lowest of lows. He puts up the highest stakes and he's delivered the impossible just enough to make you believe. Be the most hyped high school baller of all time and actually justify it? He damn did it. Pull off the Superfriends team and win 2 titles when everyone pulled against him? He damn did it. The Block? He did it. Go back home and win a title in fucking Cleveland down 3-1? He damn did it.

Even his failures (The Decision, the Mavs loss) are originals.

I understand why people ride and die for people like Kobe (who I hate) and AI (who I'm neutral about). They make people feel they can do the impossible. They make normal people think they can actually gun for 81 every game and still be a winner (which actually happened) or be 150 pounds surrounded by giants and do what AI did (which actually happened).

I feel no emotion about KD. He made a rational business decision and I support people's freedom above all. He can win the next 5 titles and it doesn't move the meter for me. No one fights who's better, Worthy or McHale? What's better, Boondock Saints vs Suicide Kings?

KD is a 7 footer with one of the sweetest strokes in league history, and that's unfair, going to a team that won 73 games, which is both completely rational and unfair. Lebron makes the impossible happen. Like En Vogue said, give me something that I can feel.
2554323, Durant proposed that he be called "the servant."
Posted by Orbit_Established, Mon Jul-04-16 07:44 PM

He's an odd kid. I suspect that he might be an idiot,
but because he's positive and doesn't hurt anyone, it
has flown under the radar.

But he's an odd, odd, cat.

2554354, that argument is lame, cosmetic - and decisively not substantive
Posted by Vex_id, Mon Jul-04-16 08:54 PM
People cried like teenage jilted lovers when Bron left Cleveland because he broke up with them via text message - but the substance of *why* he left was sound - and in retrospect - was the absolute smart/visionary move as it set up the Homecoming which experienced the greatest NBA Finals achievement/moment in the history of the National Basketball Association.

KD did some benign marketing announcement of his move to GS - sans drama. congrats. The *substance* of his decision to join an already built champion who is his arch rival (and who just beat him in the WCF after being up 3-1) - is abysmal in its substantive form. Forget cosmetics.

Posted by Kira, Tue Jul-05-16 09:29 AM
... to not choke away a three game lead on his championship contending team and then join the 73 win team that beat his team in the offseason.

Go to Boston and win a chip there with Al Horford.
STAY and win a chip with his top 5 teammate, Victor Oladipo and pieces.
Go to San Antonio and get the Popovich automatic stat boost.

GO ANYWHERE OTHER THAN THE 73 WIN TEAM THAT BEAT YOUR TEAM ON YOUR HOME COURT EN ROUTE TO AN NBA FINALS APPEARANCE.

No, this is some hoe shit. They won 73 games without KD so now 75 wins is the bar. Steve Kerr is such a great coach so 75 wins is doable, right? KD sure gave himself a hard road to the finals. At least Bron had to overcome adversity returning to Cleveland with injury prone Ky and overrated at the time Kevin Love.

Imagine if Bron went to the regular season wins leader coming off a finals loss. He'd never live that down but KD gets a pass... FOH.

>Playing with a top 5 PG and arguably a top 5 PF plus a bunch
>of role players he personally wanted? Such a difficult life.

Ky is the top PG of his class but he gets injured too much and Bron had to correct a lot of Ky's mistakes. It got so bad to the point that Bron took over point guard duties just to demonstrate how Ky should play.

Kevin Love got exposed early but he's gradually turned it around this year and helped us win a title with the best defensive possession of his career.

You're right that Delly is an elite role player. Richard Jefferson gave us 30 minutes a game off the bench with his quality performance. Jokes aside, Bron had to deal with a coaching change rookie season. This rookie head coach went up against elite teams in the league without the benefit of installing his own defensive and offensive systems during the offseason like every coach.

Meanwhile KD lost a 3-1 series including the decisive game on his home court and joined the winningest team in NBA history months later. Nah, KD gets deserves the worst roasting in NBA history if the Warriors don't win 75 games en route to a title berth.

Knicks and Lakers fans are the worst offenders - and they all line up in these posts to commiserate in unison. I hope they're going to be ok - because their whole narrative has been destroyed over the past 5 years - and it's clearly difficult for them to process and admit how wrong they were.

But point blank - it comes down to what you said: They wanted to party on what they anticipated would be failure in CLE with Bron & Ky - and now they're crying when true fans celebrate the Greatest Achievement in NBA History on their doorstep.
