By Chris Haynes, cleveland.com Email the author | Follow on Twitter on June 21, 2016 at 12:40 PM, updated June 21, 2016 at 12:51 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio. – LeBron James and his agent Rich Paul are still winning.
The Philadelphia 76ers have informed the camp of Ben Simmons that they will select the forward with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft on Thursday, league sources informed cleveland.com.
Paul, of Cleveland-based Klutch Sports, represents Simmons.
Simmons, 19, departed LSU following his freshman campaign, when he averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4,8 assists. The 6-foot-10 forward is considered by many as a franchise player whose game best resembles LeBron James'.
Simmons has been the consensus No. 1 pick in this draft for the last three years. James, who mentors Simmons, said he has the potential to be a special player in the league.
Paul helped orchestrate a return like no other when he delivered James back to the city of Cleveland, only to watch it pay off with a championship two years later. And now he'll have two potential lottery picks on Thursday with Dejounte Murray of Washington pegged to be a possible top-14 selection.

2549674, ask Longo, I have been all season. Posted by bshelly, Tue Jun-21-16 01:06 PM
I mean, best of luck to you with the evolutionary Tayshaun Prince, but I haven't liked Ingram since at least early December.
|
2549730, It's true: he's put it out there. He's a full-blown Ingram skeptic. Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Jun-21-16 03:15 PM
I'm gonna use "evolutionary Tayshaun Prince" and "Stickfigure McJumpShot" every time he does awesome shit in the pros, which will be often.
|
2549687, for real he looks fragil....almost worse than durant looked as a rookie Posted by guru0509, Tue Jun-21-16 01:51 PM
minus the shooting ability
|
2549732, Ingram was a better long-range shooter in college than Durant. Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Jun-21-16 03:17 PM
Granted, not by much, and yes, Durant was better at most everything else... but still, lol.

2549707, Simmons is better Posted by ChuckNeal, Tue Jun-21-16 02:44 PM
Ingram does one thing better, shoot. Simmons does everything else better, is bigger, stronger and faster. People shitted on dudes smugness, but shit was way overblown. I'm happy as hell.

2549668, No surprise here Posted by Marauder21, Tue Jun-21-16 12:48 PM
The draft starts with Boston's pick, Simmons and Ingram were written in stone after the lottery happened (if they weren't already.)

PHX seems like a basketball black hole these days.
though i'm not SHOCKED, still kinda crazy to see him that high on some draft boards but on potential it's legit.

2549943, Phoenix is a double black hole collapsing into itself Posted by HecticHavoc, Wed Jun-22-16 12:16 AM
causing gravitational waves. that is how bad the state of the Suns are currently
|
2549684, This was a no brainer Posted by gmltheone, Tue Jun-21-16 01:38 PM
I mean I get keeping some suspense in the draft, but this was a lock barring the ghost of Harold Katz showing up.
So we're now in the klutch sports business. Getting ready for those windhorst hottakes and woj hitpieces. ---------------------------- Same as it ever was!

|
2549748, If Ingram goes to LA and Jah goes to Boston? Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Jun-21-16 03:43 PM
I'm getting fucked up at that OKP draft watch party. Worse than I did when the Cavs drafted Bennett. That was a sad fucked up-- this would be a happy fucked up.

2549726, This was a foregone conclusion. Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Tue Jun-21-16 03:12 PM
No disrespect to Ingram but it's not a contest as far as a team looking for a franchise player. Ingram will be a nice fit with the Lakers, good for him. I will take the guy with the "WOW" factor to both his physique and his game. All the stuff about him being sour on Philly was bullshit, it will work out fine. He and Saric should both get plenty of tick. Hopefully we can get a veteran point guard or two on the cheap, because now it will be time to actually make an effort towards something.
|
2549791, Agreed on Simmons. I wouldn't be so sure abt Saric playing this year Posted by Mignight Maruder, Tue Jun-21-16 04:50 PM
though. All the recent reports seem to indicate that he's going to wait another year as it makes much more financial sense for him.

2549909, I hear conflicting things Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Tue Jun-21-16 10:10 PM
Croatian papers say he is gone. His dad was aware of the contract situation when he said Dario was coming last year. A guy I know in Serbia who is plugged into the Eurobasket scene says Saric is coming. But then there is the logistical concern and Colangelo's non-commital answer. We shall see.
|
2549910, I agree no surprise. However, re: your "it will work out fine" comment Posted by LA2Philly, Tue Jun-21-16 10:13 PM
You said the same thing about drafting Okafor even though you guys already had Noel and Embiid.
That being said, I do think he will be a great player along with Ingram.

2549764, Celtics reported want Nerlens for the #3! Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Tue Jun-21-16 03:59 PM

2549767, And if Jamal Murray can fall to the T-Wolves.... Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Tue Jun-21-16 04:02 PM
man...I'm gonna be singing like Omar Chandler in the Rob Base "Joy & Pain" video.
|
2549776, Per Cal, that's where Murray wants to go Posted by Marauder21, Tue Jun-21-16 04:11 PM
If this were 4 years ago, that would be a guarantee he ends up here.
|
2549780, I know. It makes perfect sense. Let him play PG or SG. Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Tue Jun-21-16 04:15 PM
Start dynasty.
|
2549773, Where are you seeing that? Posted by SoulHonky, Tue Jun-21-16 04:09 PM
In the kind of typical lowball Ainge offer, we offered Smart and some picks to Philly last year for Noel and the #3.
Noel was worth more than one year of Jeff Teague but not sure he's worth the #3 straight up. Especially since his deal is up after this year. Although I do want Noel on the Celtics. Think he'd answer a lot of our issues up front.

2549914, As a sixer fan and an okp dude Posted by gmltheone, Tue Jun-21-16 10:17 PM
I hope we trade both of them. Sick of Kentucky and Duke fans whining about these dudes. Good dudes, but we as a fan I don't want those problems.
As long as we get fair value, I don't really care where they go. I'm not even counting on embiid at this point. ---------------------------- Same as it ever was!
|
2549789, WOMEN CHILDREN AND DUKIES FIRST! Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Jun-21-16 04:37 PM
You, Nerlens, and Jamal can play as a mini-orchestra. "Gentlemen, it's been an honor playing with you."
|
2549790, Nope. Embiid is cleared to scrimmage. Jah, The Koala Kid, ... Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Tue Jun-21-16 04:47 PM
and Dunn is a nice nucleus.
|
2549792, Let's let Jah and Nerlens fight for the trade. Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Jun-21-16 04:50 PM
Hold it in the street. I'm betting on my guy.

2549918, Works out great for both teams Posted by LA2Philly, Tue Jun-21-16 10:26 PM
Sixers badly need a ball-handler who can create and be dynamic, we desperately need a wing who can space and be dynamic.
|
2549921, Celtics tried to get Gordon Hayward or Jabari Parker for the pick? FOH! Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Jun-21-16 10:31 PM
lol
|
2549927, Butler and Middleton too. Posted by gmltheone, Tue Jun-21-16 10:51 PM
This is getting tired tho.
Every year there are all these wild leaked stories about what the Celts are going to do or tried to do, but couldn't.
So now the bucks or the jazz will get roasted for nothing accepting some lowball offer for their good young talent. ---------------------------- Same as it ever was!
|
2549996, Stein is saying they're trying to get Parker AND Middleton Posted by Marauder21, Wed Jun-22-16 08:12 AM
SMH @ Danny Ainge's hubris.
|
2550001, I like both of them Posted by thejerseytornado, Wed Jun-22-16 08:27 AM
But neither is worth the 3 alone. Tgether they're worth more.
I bet it's Crowder and the 3 and another lower pick for both that he's dangling.
Or this is just to force the sixers hand. ----------- you think we playing chess, but i'm playing mad-making. Basaglia

2549939, Bad timing for the Celtics, no one's excited about all their picks lol Posted by theeraser, Tue Jun-21-16 11:36 PM
