Batting average, on base percentage, etc. were analytics. People just realized that the more in-depth you look, the more you can glean from the stats.

Of course, people then starting relying too heavily on those and we were right back to the old saying, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

but in doing so he's cornered off stats he doesn't consider analytics that are. what makes them not analytics? you like them? meanwhile, everyone is already doing the same thing at this point: relying on what they find reliable and throwing out the rest. there was initially an overtrusting of anything labeled "analytics," but that's not really the case anymore. he's fighting a fake fight over a decade late.

I've thought that his stance has been that they are overused. Which I agree, they are.

People cite this shit as the be all, end all when really they should be used to help improve the understanding of what you see in games.

He was very good overall in the finals. It's a credit to Iguodala for how he played to win that MVP, not a "lulz, Steph wasn't even MVP".
