shit good.
2532253, damn...forgot all about the Nick Anderson free throw thing...
Posted by Dstl1, Thu Apr-14-16 09:21 PM
really fucked dude up.
2532266, How could you forget that, it's the equivalent of Starks choking in Gm 7
Posted by FILF, Thu Apr-14-16 10:24 PM
2532317, Starks was in game 6. And it's worse than Starks.
Posted by Orbit_Established, Fri Apr-15-16 07:51 AM

Starks had a cold shooting night.

Nick only needed to make one shot to win a game.

As far as choke jobs in the 90s Finals by role players, Starks/Anderson are the ones that come to mind. (They both happened against the Rockets in back-to-back years)

They were both emotional players & the pressure got the 'em while Maxwell/Cassell thrived in it.
2532551, Not really

Th Rockets also relied on those two less than the Knicks
relied on Starks. Starks was unquestionably the second best
player, and second option on the Knicks. They couldn't win with
him having a bad game. The Rockets could win games where
Maxwell barely had an impact, especially with the rise of
Mario Elie (who was the anti-Maxwell: steady hand, smart, etc).

2532409, That's one of my clearest early basketball memories
Posted by MothershipConnection, Fri Apr-15-16 01:41 PM
It was like that... Pippen shutting down Magic in the Finals... MJ (for some reason I clearly remember going to the mall once and seeing him blow a fast break dunk while passing by a TV at Good Guys)... 95 UCLA title... and the OJ car chase interrupting the Finals.

Even at 10 I felt bad as fuck for Nick cause I loved those Orlando teams!
2532254, this 30 for 30 is a trip down memory lane
Posted by guru0509, Thu Apr-14-16 09:26 PM
first pair of expensive shoes were the penny 1s...in hindsight its hard to believe that the mighty jordan led bulls lost to this team.

i loved orlando shaq. met him a pepsi signing..super nice guy. i dont think anyone has any bad stories about shaq interactions.

i didnt like him at all once he left to LA

& that game 7 Lakers win over the trailblazers in 2000 still hurts me to this day...fuck that alley oop and shaqs celebration after..i get annoyed every time i see it on tv in replays.

miami shaq was cool again though
2532267, People REALLY underestimate Horace Grant aka Heatles Bosh of the 90s
Posted by FILF, Thu Apr-14-16 10:30 PM
>in hindsight its hard to believe that the mighty jordan led bulls

Horace essentially outplayed Pippen in that series. Folks want to pin it on Jorn b/c of the turnover but it was Pippen that came up small.
2532326, Jordan played 17 games after a year and a half off
Posted by auragin_boi, Fri Apr-15-16 08:36 AM
c'mon dude...he wasn't 'Jordan'.

And Orlando went to the finals so it's not like they were chopped liver.

But when MJ got his game legs/timing/conditioning back the next season...

2532322, one of the best and worst basketball moments for me ever
Posted by MaxPtah, Fri Apr-15-16 08:20 AM
-Getting the nation to see what we've been seeing from Penny since the 8th grade

-Magic and Kareem are two of my favorite players ever, then seeing a Magic and Kareem form in Shaq and Penny

-NBA Live '95 Magic were THEE shit!

-Penny using some stroke to get David Vaughn drafted and getting Leon Mitchell (Willie Mitchell's nephew) on the pre-season roster

-Nick's four missed free throws

-Shaq elbowing Lil' Penny in that commercial, we were hot at that lol

-Wasn't mad about Shaq leaving, but the subsequent string of injuries from Penny deflated him.

This was well done, and the E:60 special will be inspiring and a real tear jerker.
2532327, Same

>-Getting the nation to see what we've been seeing from Penny

He was must see tv for me after the 1st time I saw him @ Memphis State. Tim was my favorite player at the time & I thought for sure they must be related.

>-NBA Live '95 Magic were THEE shit!

Penny was basically Jordan in that game

>-Shaq elbowing Lil' Penny in that commercial, we were hot at
>that lol

I forgot all about that ad til I saw it again last night. I remember thinking it was a little weird but never grasped the significance.

>This was well done, and the E:60 special will be inspiring and

Somewhat familiar w/ that story but certainly wanna catch that too. Do you remember what it's called &/or when it airs?
2532343, "A Penny Saved"
Posted by MaxPtah, Fri Apr-15-16 10:11 AM
It has already aired actually, but it looks like its gonna be a continuation of that piece because coach Dez passed early last year and it first aired back in 2013. Its been pulled from a lot of video sites if you google it, so I'm hoping they've extended the story up to his state title win this past season.
2532347, damn...felt like they showed the preview for it during the 30 for 30...
Posted by Dstl1, Fri Apr-15-16 10:33 AM
last night. I got excited about seeing it.
2532357, they did, hopefully they continue the story though
Posted by MaxPtah, Fri Apr-15-16 11:38 AM
still a feel good story up to present day
2533214, just watched it. Damn...tore me up

2533244, told ya

Right now is a great time in Memphis for high school ball. I think as long as Penny, Andre Turner, and Keith Lee are coaching high schools here we're about to produce talent comparable to that of those 1996-2001 classes (proud to have been part of that class and played against and with some of them).

Plus its good to have some good feel good stories about former Memphis players. The Lorenzen Wright story casted a dark shadow over for a long time here.
2533266, man....the part where Dez had to leave the interview...
Posted by Dstl1, Wed Apr-20-16 10:10 AM
because he got sick. He came back and Lisa was like "why do you do this?". Dude smiled and said "it's for the kids". I lost it. I mean, dude knew he was dying, but he wasn't even thinking of himself...at least, not outwardly.

I lost it there the first time I saw it too. The one thing about Binghampton is that it has mad talent over there. But the kids need a coach Dez or Penny over in that area. And actually since Penny returned, the area seems more calm and unified more than ever.
2533403, Did they extend the story this time or was it the same one?
Posted by jigga, Wed Apr-20-16 03:22 PM
2533417, roughly the same one
Posted by MaxPtah, Wed Apr-20-16 03:58 PM
They updated the beginning of the piece to this year when he won the AAA State title. Its significant because some of the players that were on that team that was featured followed him to East and plays for him on his AAU squad. Other than than, it basically the same piece.
2533418, they showed it through to where Memphis West won State last month

2532328, Lil Penny make a cameo??

we let him get away: "why the hell you do that?"
2532532, I currently live in Orlando...and the city STILL lingers on that era

my girls family has been here since forever
they had season tickets at the o arena
over on colonial...man she was sooooo hype
watching this episode because she lived the era
from all of her ppls accts it was a magical time in the city

she doesnt know much about sports
but she knows the 90s magic like he back of her hand tho lol
she grew up on the westside (the blackside) she talks about how
shaq and dennis really used to be in the community

nick anderson still comes to city from time to time

ive talked to old heads here in the city who used to hang out
with Tree Rollins...his family roots are here in the city he was born here and when he played here a few of them told me some stories lol

these smaller market teams fanbases hang on to these teams
like crazy hell i went to the magic and nets game it it was sold out
the fans still love the the team

then they had to relive that bullshit kinda all over again with Dwight leaving smh
2532545, Dwight leaving was a blessing in disguise b/c he was damaged goods

2532558, They made the NBA Finals with Dwight Howard.

And haven't been good since he left.

So no, it wasn't a "blessing in a disguise."

Posted by illEskoBar221, Sat Apr-16-16 10:50 AM
Lebron thought he was going to the finals that yr
To meet Kobe in the finals.

Dwight was a beast back then.

When Dwight left for la they thought it was Shaq all over again.
2532594, He was All-NBA 1st team/DPOY in 2009, now he's an afterthought
Posted by FILF, Sat Apr-16-16 02:52 PM
The Magic would have been in the same shoe as the Knicks had they re-signed Dwight rather than trading him.

Shaq leaving was devastating b/c they didn't get anything for him since he just left as a free-agent. Dwight would most likely have done the same if they didn't trade him.
2532631, Shaq could win with anyone except when he got swept...
