been a problem for him meeting expectations in the playoffs has
and this KC team is mostly riding the wave of that top 3 defense which is not his side of the ball

2504525, If Chip pulls a win out of his ass in the playoffs then he won Posted by FILF, Wed Dec-23-15 06:50 PM
If I was a betting man then I'm putting my money on Chip even though the Eagles might not even make the playoffs, lol.

2504424, Yeah, eight wins in a row is something to talk about Posted by Marauder21, Wed Dec-23-15 02:13 PM
All AFTER Charles went down with his injury, too.
OKS owes Alex Smith and Andy Reid an apology.
|
2504461, I don't get it, who hated Andy Reid? Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Dec-23-15 03:02 PM
It was time for him to move on, no coach lasts forever in one place. That's all. I think I speak for most Eagles fans when I say I was grateful for all he did in Philly and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
|
2504473, Confession: I can't tell most Philly fans apart Posted by Marauder21, Wed Dec-23-15 03:11 PM
But some of yall spent the better part of a decade shitting on this guy.
|
2504483, it wasn't just message board cats either Posted by southphillyman, Wed Dec-23-15 03:27 PM
a sizable portion of the fanbase in real life wanted dude gone probably the majority of it over those last few yrs i don't see anything wrong with it really it's professional sports, maybe you ride it out for a decade post in college iono but given a professional coach a decade plus before without a chip seems pretty reasonable to me
|
2504495, Yeah, I don't think he would be having this kind of success in 2015 Posted by Marauder21, Wed Dec-23-15 04:02 PM
if he stayed in Philly. It reminds me of Denny Green in Minny a little tbh.
|
2633446, I mean no one kissed his ass but no one treated him unfairly Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sun Dec-10-17 06:30 PM
He lasted a LONG time in the gig and got respect, money, influence, etc. By the end it was time for him to go. No one lasts forever in a gig and very few last as long as he did in Philly
|
2504501, Because you can tell Eagles fans from regular OKS posters? Posted by Mignight Maruder, Wed Dec-23-15 04:40 PM
Rrrright.
10 years ago, regular posters on here were bashing Andy Reid because he was intentionally sabotaging McNabb's career. That happened. And it was a TON of non-Eagles fans co-signing that sentiment. Folks bashed AR for his pass-happy offense and refusal to sign big name WRs. They also bashed him for choking in big games.
As Andy Reid took on more powers as Head Coach (GM duties), he became increasingly ineffective. His last 2 years were marred by horrible draft selections, horrible free agent signings, and massively underachieving teams. It was time to go.
He had a GREAT run in Philly and is still largely revered by Eagles fans. It was just time to go. Trust, that no one wishes him ill will.
|
2504480, NO, WE DON'T OWE HIM AN APOLOGY Posted by Kira, Wed Dec-23-15 03:26 PM
>OKS owes Alex Smith an apology.
Recent history has shown us Alex's entire career trajectory is some white privilege shit. RG3 AND Kaep say FOH with any claims of any apology towards Alex. Give them enough time to start on the same team and just allowed to be around until they find a coach after their initial one that believes in them and watch them succeed as well.
Any deserves an apology. Alex is privileged as shit and history backs me up.

nah, the fact that he's stuck in the league and been decent is WAY more than people (including niners fans) expected of him. he was roundly panned. personally IDGAF, i mean, what stake do i have in the guy? i did think people were too hard on him at the time but again not something that kept me awake at night like, i dunno, you losing a centimeter off your cock.

We're as Listerine as can be in a situation of franchise QB gone. Meanwhile KC still gotta win out for their division with a lame duck QB leading the way & rookie sitting in the corner holding clipboard.

getting outcoached. He has won enough games that he is far from the worst but you think about Gruden, Bellicheat, John Fox, whoever the fuck Arizona's coach was in 09, today a guy whose tenure might have ended with a loss, etc, etc. He really has a knack for being outwitted.
|
2636613, I think if you calculate the spread or expected wins Posted by smutsboy, Sat Jan-06-18 08:14 PM
Reid's chokes are probably worse than Marv's, from Tampa in Philly to every year in KC.
But I guess Reid would beat out Marv by default. The two sweetest words in the english language.
|
2637148, Tough to say Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Tue Jan-09-18 01:15 PM
The losses to STL and Arizona were road games where they were underdogs. The Tampa game was a home game and so was Carolina. In both games a lot of the nose-to-nose battles went the other way (much of that was holding by TB's line O Line and Carolina's DBs, but hey, this is the fucking playoffs!). The loss to NE was a push, three-point dogs and lost by three. This obviously was a game KC should have won. I would say beating the Giants in 06 was a pretty solid win and getting to the title game against STL was also solid. So he hasn't always been favored when he won and definitely not when he lost.
Marv has never won a playoff game. We aren't talking about title games or Super Bowls, we're talking about the first round. Without looking I know at least four of those were home games which is a pretty clear indicator that they were favored.

honestly i liked reid and wished him success but the good part now is that i also revel in his failure because OE has cast him as some lombardi-like figure
|
2637151, It amazes me how much the sports media blow Reid Posted by Selassie I God, Tue Jan-09-18 01:46 PM
they treat him like a shade under Belicheat, Chuck Noll, Joe Gibbs, etc when he is really Schottenheimer 2.0
KC will keep him around because he wine 11-13 games regular seasons and division titles (just like Philly did), but he will NEVER win a Super bowl unless he gets one a la Indianapolis (playing a Bear-like team with no QB)
|
2637155, RE: It amazes me how much the sports media blow Reid Posted by COOLEHMAGAZINE, Tue Jan-09-18 02:30 PM
I think that take is way overdoing it.
Andy Reid gets exactly the props he deserves, he is a great football coach. He has several fatal flaws but so do lots of guys. I never heard anyone putting him close to Belichick or Walsh or anything even close.
He doesn't even get mentioned with guys like Dungy, Gruden, Holmgren…because they won Superbowls.
There has to be room between all-time greats and just average guys.
Even if Andy never wins the SB, he is still a great coach. He took a team to the dance and won a lot outside of that as well.

Apparently our definition of "great coach" is different.
For me, a great coach either wins the Super Bowl (and not all SB winners have been great coaches) or they have been innovators (like a Don Coryell or a Buddy Ryan). Andy Reid is neither of those. He evaluates talent pretty well, especially mid level draft picks. His time management has always been questionable at best. His play calling...well you see what happened this year when he called plays and when his OC called them. He is much closer to a notch above average than he is to greatness IMHO..

2637715, I root for Andy, but damn if there's ever been a guy who just can't get out Posted by Mignight Maruder, Sun Jan-14-18 07:48 AM
of his own way and learn from his past (and current) mistakes. The guy HAS to know that unless you got Tom Brady, you can't survive in the league passing the ball 90% of the time. He had the NFL leading rusher on his team with a LEAD and refused to run the ball in the 2nd half of a playoff game. That is just absurd. His clock management skills are still among the worst in the league. His stubborn nature of sticking to his game plan no matter the early outcome, is detrimental. Or if things go wrong or not to his liking, his immediate reaction is to just pass the ball over and over again regardless of its success rate.
He still does an amazing job of getting the most from his players and he is a creative play-caller, but his weaknesses will always prevent him from reaching the mountain top. It almost feels like he doesn't want to win a SB. I just can't understand how you can make the same mistakes over and over again and literally make no adjustments.

This is true, but Nagy called those plays.
|
2637720, The buck stops with Andy though. He's seen this song and dance far Posted by Mignight Maruder, Sun Jan-14-18 09:28 AM
too often to lose in the same typical fashion as he's done in many playoff games before. It's really unfathomable to limit the NFL's leading rusher to just 5 carries from the 2nd through 4th quarter in a game where you had an 18 point lead against an anemic offense. He did the same shit in all those NFC Championship games where he should have been feeding the ball to Westbrook, Duce, and Buckhalter. The guy simply refuses to acknowledge and work on his fatal flaws.

Somewhere along the line of HC duties
too many MFers felt entitled to Executive and GM privileges
alot of HCs would be GREAT, if they just coached and didn't try to extend themselves that far to making personnel decisions
...input is one thing, making the decisions is another...
or put their $.02 in the other side of the ball that they are nowhere near experts in
Really good offensive coach...I wouldn't go as far as to say great
but when you factor in all of the other fuckery...he aight.

There was a sequence...maybe late 1st quarter...? Short yardage KC had to call a timeout
It had almost every hallmark of an AR fuck up
Mismanaging time TOs short yardage Reluctant to run the ball
All that was missing was a coaches challenge of the spot of the ball
LOL
Great job with the gameplan and execution.

2711080, Damn right I shit on Andy he wasted the prime years of McNabb's Posted by Musa, Thu Jan-23-20 12:18 AM
career with his arrogance and Larry Brownesque mentality of coaching up bums especially on the offensive side of the ball.
Almost every player McNabb played with outside of a handful of players at skill positions was out of the league or a backup within a year of leaving Philly
Brown Pinkston Freddie Mitchell James Thrash Greg Lewis Hank Baskett etc.etc.etc.
I have no hate against him tho get yo ring Andy I don't even fully blame him for the superbowl L in 2004 with the 52 passing plays vs 12 rushing plays because the Patriots were cheating.

2726524, Nah,..he's still terrible using the run Posted by bentagain, Mon Nov-30-20 09:16 AM
That game yesterday shoulda been a blowout
Mahomes/Hill put up record numbers...but TB had a chance
KC was up 17 for long stretches of that game
...yet AR still calls 50 passing plays...
50/20...with a yuge early lead...yeah, he still don't get it
They almost got blanked in the 2nd half
There are games and scenarios where you have to...Run the f'n ball
|
2726528, it didn't feel like 'Classic Andy' Posted by Dr Claw, Mon Nov-30-20 09:54 AM
the Chiefs run game isn't quite... the Browns (funny as it is to type that)
so they have to use "virtual runs" like Boody does with short passes.
lot more first down running than I remember in the days of Classic Andy.
and the game was basically won... with the clock.
True, not some good sequences in the 2nd half, it should have been a BLOW OUT.
|
2726530, That roughin' the passer call...which negated an INT saved them an L Posted by bentagain, Mon Nov-30-20 10:03 AM
IMO. it was bull$hit call too
JPP wacks Mahomes arm in the throwing motion...which brings JPP's arm to Mahomes helmet
IMO, that is a lot different than hitting a QB in the head
IRT running the ball
They kinda have to kick the tires on Bell at some point before the playoffs
Dude's carried the ball +10Xs once this year...and that was with NYJ
He looked as shifty and crafty as ever yesterday
They've got 2 cupcakes coming up...DEN and MIA...run the F'n ball
You can't have Mahomes chucking 50Xs a game...and avoid catastrophe
+1, the top teams in the AFC are really, really tough
I don't see that working against PIT/TEN/BAL

a couple of those are Mahomes scrambles
3/1 pass to rush ratio
All that’s left is a challenge of the spot of the ball for the AR trifecta.

2731872, Can someone explain this? Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Mon Feb-08-21 03:55 PM
Ive been searching twitter and the sports shows for someone who can explain what exactly Reid was trying to do by calling all those timeouts before the half.

2731881, He has most explosive offense in league history. Posted by Orbit_Established, Mon Feb-08-21 05:15 PM
And his offense cut up this exact defense earlier in the season.
He wants a score going into halftime.

2731984, But that same offense failed to move the ball the entire first half Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Tue Feb-09-21 01:07 PM
What would make him think it could all of a sudden drive down the field at will in like thirty seconds?
|
2732030, LOL So you want him to give up on 3 seasons of the best offense ever? Posted by Orbit_Established, Tue Feb-09-21 10:31 PM
Mahomes was still two dropped passes from two touchdowns

2731986, And they lose to the 49ers if they had a competent QB Posted by Sofian_Hadi, Tue Feb-09-21 01:09 PM
Skip brought it up today. I forgot Mahomes threw two picks to end the third quarter and were still down by 10 midway through the fourth. If the 49ers had even a half decent QB to answer they win that game easily. Jimmy G was terrible in the second half

2732029, Bwahahahahah Reid won a ring and you a mad little bitch Posted by Orbit_Established, Tue Feb-09-21 10:30 PM
You blaming Reid for an entire new offensive line and Mahomes being hurt

2731873, This dude needs to take a step back and deal with his family.... Posted by blueeclipse, Mon Feb-08-21 04:01 PM
Seriously man. He needs to retire and get this shit in order. His son seriously injured and possibly killed a little kid driving drunk. I know he wants to have him around to keep an eye on him....but this aint it man.

2731892, IDGAF how old his son is.... Posted by blueeclipse, Mon Feb-08-21 06:14 PM
Andy Reid is the coach of a prominent NFL franchise and his son injured and possibly killed someone in that same city. How the fuck is that not grounds to step away? On some level he's still responsible for having his son around.

the "mastermind" McVay wasn't very good either, luckily faced Jimmy G. 2 awful challenges resulting in no timeouts with 10 mins left in the game.
