2454050, 2015 NBA Finals Game 3 - The Warriors vs The Lebrons
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue Jun-09-15 09:29 AM
I expect to see a huge bounce back game from Steph tonight after struggling badly in game 2. I expect Delly will be screened to death all night. It will be interesting to see what adjustments Kerr makes.

Back at home I expect to see some of the Cavs other role players like JR and Shump to step it up. Cleveland is not going to shoot 32% at home.

The first two games went to OT, this one will probably go down to the wire as well.

2454056, RE: what adjustments Kerr makes
Posted by bentagain, Tue Jun-09-15 09:41 AM
the fryer was heating up for Stevie

I thought he was thoroughly outcoached by Blatt in game 2

for 3 quarters that is

was there any explanation for Moz not playing at all in the 4th/OT?

Blatt pulled a Kerr w/Moz guarding Iggy and daring him to shoot

and for 3 quarters it was working

still scratching my head as to how Moz doesn't get any tick in the 4th/OT

and then Blatt takes the bait and pulls TT at the end of the 4th

and TT isn't even a terrible FT shooter

Blatt did all he could to blow that game, IMO

if he's gonna bench Moz when GS goes small

GS should just start the game that way, or have that lineup on the floor for the majority of the game

that's the adjustment I'm looking for

small ball

push the tempo

tire CLE

and get players in foul trouble (there will be massive floppage in game 3.)

GS can't let CLE give the likes of James Jones, Mike Miller, etc...tick and live

Posted by The Mac, Tue Jun-09-15 03:21 PM
I feel like nobody is talking about the HOW Blatt actually fucked up, but this post is definitely on-point.

Kerr just slowly set him up to go smaller and smaller....first Blatt just took out Moz (seemed like a normal rotation to keep him fresh), but then Kerr forced his hand by hacking TT - but instead of keeping TT in ( didnt he hit 3/4 FTs??) or subbing him for Moz, he get's duped into going super super small.

Suddenly there's a gaping hole in the middle and all your advantages disappear ... if Moz is there they don't get a few of those 2nd chance buckets and easy and 1s!

Blatt's strategy coming into the game was great - in-game coaching was horrible...Kerr walked him down...
2454057, watching lebron take 40 shots a game is highly entertaining
Posted by Cenario, Tue Jun-09-15 09:42 AM
not quite russy level entertaining, but entertaining nonetheless.

Blatt/Lebron/Lue someone needs to tell jr to get his head out of his ass and drive to the basket and stop simply chucking up 3s. He IS the 2nd best offensive player on the team and needs to start playing like it. If not, there's no reason for him to be on the floor.
2454059, RE: and needs to start
Posted by bentagain, Tue Jun-09-15 09:46 AM
I can't say Swish has gotten into any type of rhythm yet in the finals

give him the start

maybe that will be a false boost for his confidence

IDK
2454060, over who? gotta have delly/shump to start on Curry/klay and
Posted by Cenario, Tue Jun-09-15 09:47 AM
hopefully get them out of rhythm from jump.
2454063, RE: over shump
Posted by bentagain, Tue Jun-09-15 09:55 AM
I'll defer to your NYK expertise

but I'd be concerned about Shump's minutes

he was coming back from injury too if I remember correctly

his shots aren't even close at this point

which is usually a clear sign of fatigue

I know his calling card is D

but if I'm CLE, I'd start Swish in the hopes that he can get cranking on offense

and Swish still does give you good effort on D

my 5 for game 3

Delly, Swish, Bron, TT, Moz

if GS goes small you can adjust by bringing in Shump for TT or Moz

but that 5 is the unit I want on the floor for most of game 3.

the issue with hoping to get GS out of rhythm is that I haven't seen it happen yet

obviously both Klay and Steph have bad games from time to time

but I haven't seen both of them have a bad game at the same time

bite the bullet on Steph with Delly

and try to counter with the offense of Swish

i.e., GS has to defend too

2454068, I expect a double digit win by the Cavs
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jun-09-15 10:09 AM
I think the stage is too big for Curry and them...

people acting like Curry been here before and the Cavs are lucky to be here.

Y'all about to witness what real home court advantage looks like in the Finals.
2454069, this has been overlooked greatly
Posted by Cenario, Tue Jun-09-15 10:14 AM
>people acting like Curry been here before and the Cavs are lucky to be here.

that team is very inexperienced playoff wise.
2454072, the "been there" factor casted doubts on GS and Atlanta all year but...
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue Jun-09-15 10:17 AM
outside of Lebron who else has major playoff experience on the Cavs? JR?

Is Lebron's championship experience alone enough to will him team to victory?
2454087, your leader having it is a big deal. They got a lot of scrubs
Posted by Cenario, Tue Jun-09-15 10:40 AM
on the bench with experience. That helps in a mentoring/teaching kind of way..helping them to relax and crap. No one would really be shocked if Mike Miller and James Jones stepped into a game and hit like 5 3's either.
2454134, This is why Bron is jacking 40 shots amd flirting w/ triple dubs every game
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jun-09-15 12:28 PM
Bron has it and has carried teams on his back. The ISO is killing GS too... as long as they keep moving without the ball I don't see how they lose on their home court.
2454070, Its always been said that a jump-shooting team can't win a title...
Posted by ThaTruth, Tue Jun-09-15 10:15 AM
Kerr was trying to prove that saying false, we'll see...
2454076, I mentioned this in the prior post
Posted by Numba_33, Tue Jun-09-15 10:23 AM
but I'd like to see Kerr draw up plays to get Curry to the free throw line more. Easier to get buckets and get Cleveland into some degree to foul trouble. Dude supposedly has great handles, but hasn't maximized it to the fullest in this series yet.
2454135, thats on Curry. The lane is wide open half the time because they fear his 3
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jun-09-15 12:30 PM
but this stage may be too big for him. We shall see tonight.
2454139, I wonder how much of that is on Kerr though
Posted by Numba_33, Tue Jun-09-15 12:49 PM
Trying to get Steph is penetrate more is something all five players on the court and the coaching staff have to emphasize and agree with. I'd love to see that adjustment since that'll make the Cavaliers work harder on defense.
2454142, Bomani talked about this last night...
Posted by Dstl1, Tue Jun-09-15 12:55 PM
but he was more on expressing how he didn't like the fact that GS, Klay and Steph in particular, seem to settle for the long J. He said it seems like they resist finishing at the basket and Harrison Barnes is the only dude that enjoys dunking. Shit was hilarious.
2454104, which is precisely why GSW needs to get back to basics...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Tue Jun-09-15 11:21 AM
..we all know they can light it up, but the true grit of this team has been their ability to defend & hustle.

if they find that rhythm and continue to be physical with lebron, its their series to lose.

*skatin' the rings of saturn*

..and miles to go before i sleep...
2454136, Bron should get calls on his home court...
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jun-09-15 12:32 PM
and I ain't never seen a team get physical with a player and still end up in their ass.

Bron is big as fuck...

Only way GS wins is if they are lights out from the arc. Their rebounding is atrocious.
2454137, RE: Bron should get calls on his home court...
Posted by Numba_33, Tue Jun-09-15 12:45 PM
>Their
>rebounding is atrocious.

I agree; trying to get physical with LeBron sounds like the perfect recipe for getting into foul trouble. The bigs for the Warriors need to get physical with Mozgov and Thompson so Golden State can get rebounds and help establish the pace they want for the game.
2454163, not just outside shooting: balance (both ends of the floor)...
Posted by CyrenYoung, Tue Jun-09-15 02:06 PM
..while we all know that GSW is currently below their average from the perimeter (kudos to the cavs for playing good defense), those shots will eventually begin to fall.

the key to victory for GSW is balance. if they get back into rhythm and continue to play solid defense & hustle for every possession, they'll regain control of the series.

if not, this might just be the crowning achievement of lebron's legacy.

*skatin' the rings of saturn*

..and miles to go before i sleep...
2454232, and what if they dont? The problem with west coast jump shooting teams...
Posted by legsdiamond, Tue Jun-09-15 04:29 PM
is once they get in a grind with an east coast team the jumpers tend to stop falling.

This isn't western conference no defense basketball.

we are talking about the Finals where the east ALWAYS has a lock down guy on the best shooter.

2454241, LMAO!..
Posted by CyrenYoung, Tue Jun-09-15 05:07 PM
>is once they get in a grind with an east coast team the
>jumpers tend to stop falling.
>
>This isn't western conference no defense basketball.

not sure how many GSW games you've seen this year, but they're far from the typical jump-shooting team. they not only play defense, but they finished with the best defense in the league for the regular season (#2 on offense). all that, while playing in a western conference that makes most of the east look like collegiate teams.

the media loves to showcase the perimeter shooting (understandably so), but this team is far from 1-dimensional.

*skatin' the rings of saturn*

..and miles to go before i sleep...
2454078, Of course I scheduled a shoot...
Posted by LeroyBumpkin, Tue Jun-09-15 10:26 AM
...that would be right in the middle of Game 3.
I never think about that stuff when talking to clients.
"Sure, Tuesday at 5:30 will be fine."

I expect Curry to respond and have a big game tonight.
The media jumping on the "Delly locked you up" angle has to make
any MVP heated. He'll step up, no less than 30.
2454085, Dubs need to adjust to the high picks and Mozgov diving to the basket
Posted by josephmurf2384, Tue Jun-09-15 10:36 AM
I expect Cleveland will shoot better but if they can nutralize Mozgov a bit it will even out. Curry and Draymond got to get there shors falling because conversely GS bench will probably not shoot as well. I think GS will come out pretty juiced and win tonight i hope. I could see this being a Lebron heavy turnover game trying to get teammates involved at home, but i do expect him to be some where in the 30/10/10 range again for another triple double.
2454086, Cavs in a blowout
Posted by B.J.S.301, Tue Jun-09-15 10:37 AM
Tristan is beasting.

Pretty telling that no one in this thread has even mentioned what Klay Thompson should/could/will be doing.

Posted by ThaTruth, Tue Jun-09-15 11:08 AM
time the Warriors are almost unstoppable but that hasn't happened a lot in the playoffs.

He scored 5 in second half and was in witness protection in the 4th qtr. Not good enough. Not even close.
2454096, Please, for the love of everything, let there be PIPE

Cavs need Earl Sweatsocks to turn back into JR.

2454145, I partially agree with you.
Posted by Numba_33, Tue Jun-09-15 01:06 PM
If either JR or Shumpert go off AND Mozgov puts up another double-double, then the Warriors will be in very deep trouble. Between the two, I'd give the odds to JR since Shumpert isn't the best in terms of his outside shot or creating off the dribble.

That's assuming of course that LeBron has another near triple double game or goes off for 30+ points.
2454099, I expect a GUILE by the Warriors
Posted by Kira, Tue Jun-09-15 11:16 AM
This is the Steph and Klay breakout game. Klay will have a breakout game as the Warriors build leads and hold them going deep into the fourth quarter. At that point the Cavs breakdown from all the pressure and get tired as the Warriors route the Cavs completely.
2454101, klay isnt that nice...hes doin what klay does
Posted by LAbeathustla, Tue Jun-09-15 11:19 AM

2454116, JR and Shump feed off of home energy...
Posted by Dstl1, Tue Jun-09-15 11:52 AM
Steph wakes up a bit, but nothing earth-shattering, Klay takes a step back from Game 2. One of the Cavs greybeards gets involved in a big way (Jones, Miller or Marion) and the Cavs win by double digits.
2454117, yeah man this is really stephs game 7
Posted by LAbeathustla, Tue Jun-09-15 11:55 AM
he better show up big in both these cleve games...GS is really jus too small to fk w/bron tho
2454120, and when they "go small", he has even more of a field day with no Bogut...
Posted by Dstl1, Tue Jun-09-15 12:06 PM

is a 15 point lead on any other team in the NBA.

that being said, it doesn't take long for a lead to evaporate against this team either, but the way Cleveland is defending them is something I thought I would never see from this group.

I'm starting to think that GS just isn't ready for this... Cleveland looks relaxed. GS looks like they're pressing.

Cleveland is in total control of this game & series..don't fool yourself. It's up to GS to TAKE it from Cleveland in the 2nd half & I haven't seen anything so far to suggest that's gonna happen.

Impressive how nice he was with the passes given how inactive he was prior to the game. I think him coming off the bench is the right move because I think Thompson will eat him alive and Lee in turn will get a ton of fouls. I doubt he's the rebounding force he was while he was on the Knicks given the injuries he accumulated over the years.

Lebron typically struggles with big front courts who can score/defend. Warriors are seeming kinda tailor-made for Lebron like the Thunder a couple years ago.

the Warriors aren't here by any sort of accident, but not having to deal with the Spurs (and Tim Dog and Kawhi) is a good thing to say the least.

Still incredibly difficult to fend off a team that can erase double-digit leads so quickly. Not to mention, they can just throw whoever the hell they want at you. David Lee hardly played, he comes in tonight and the Cavs' GUILE dwindles.

Against the Spurs, the Cavs would absolutely need Kyrie to stand a chance, he's the only one who can neutralize DayQuil's LeBron Stopping effect

Incredible trades (not much on the PIPE front to night, but without him and Shump these playoffs don't go like they do, and Mozgov? Sheeeit)
Lose your two best not-LeBron players and still compete...
and the guys that are left, in particular... Tristan and Delly playing like they are?

Tristan was thought to be a classic Chris Grant reach. Now he's looking like a no-brainer. Opposing team's bigs are having to cheat to keep him away from the boards.

And Delly? LOL, he was about to be tossed. He had streaks of good play, but was more known for turning the ball over than being a great defender.

Cosign all of this. Lebron carving men outta wood with Delly and Tristan right now. He might as well get that cordless mike on the side of his head and Bobby Brown circa 1991 out there.
2454586, You've got a great offensive player in lebron surrounded by a bunch

Of dudes that defend and do all the dirty work and jr smith. And lebron is willing to hustle, defend and get dirty as well. Everyone is doing their part. With the best player in the game, it not shocking.

What's most shocking to me is how they are totally disrupting gs offense and really Controlling this series with lebron still struggling on offense.

Posted by MothershipConnection, Tue Jun-09-15 11:54 PM
He's not great or anything on O but the Cavs aren't playing 4 on 5 on offense with him in there.

And Conley was basically all of the perimeter playmaking for Memphis and also injured while Delly just plays off Bron and gets to burn most of his energy on defense.

They are leaving everything on the floor, literally. GS gotta adjust and steal one in Cleveland on Thursday. Hopefully Kerr makes the same kind of adjustments he did against Memphis. GS needs to start shooting interior shots instead of these kick outs and chucking. I know Cleveland is bigger but damn at least attempt a shot on the inside. Get them into some kind of foul trouble. GS needs to start better. Great game by Lebron and help. I now got scared money on the line with Bomb.
2454575, Cavs not needing Delly or Shump on offense helps them
Posted by MothershipConnection, Tue Jun-09-15 11:19 PM
This is like a ground and pound run the ball type of ballgame they're doing but since the offense doesn't run through Delly or Shump, they can burn 90% of their energy on defense while most teams that are more point guard centric can't have their 1 chasing Curry as hard on D. I mean Curry had a crazy 4th but those first 3 quarters built enough equity for them to win.

I still feel JR Smith is going to go off in one of these games with like 8 three pointers and somehow pull out one for the Cavs.

This was easily the most candid thing I've ever heard him say.

I enjoy watching him play, I wouldn't consider myself a full blown hater, but I do get annoyed at some of the on court theatrics and how his answers are just cue up and ready to go, regardless of the question, in some on court post game interviews.

Having said that, this was dope.

Posted by Cenario, Wed Jun-10-15 08:28 AM
30 shots to get his 40 and no one else on cleveland is really effective offensively save for a little stretch of mozgov.

Their biggest problem to me on that side of the ball is the offensive glass. Part of that of course is tied to the need to help when lebron drives.
2454648, but the fact that everything runs through him is what's killing GS...
Posted by Dstl1, Wed Jun-10-15 08:34 AM
Thibs was just on SC and he explained it better than I ever could, of course. He said that Lebron is reading what GS is doing defensively and choosing what he'd like to do. He's putting their guys in pick and rolls when he chooses, selecting guys to be iso'd against and then making them pay for collapsing with passes. The big thing this playoffs has been on his shot volume, but in these Finals, he's basically doing exactly what he wants to do.
2454654, The only thing that is 'killing' GS on the offensive end is the rebounding
Posted by Cenario, Wed Jun-10-15 08:47 AM
Cleveland is shooting below 40% from the field for the series. Lebron is picking and choosing what to do on offense I agree, but they aren't running an efficient offense either, by numbers or by the eye.

If Golden STate was doing what they've been accustomed to doing on offense, this would be a completely different series and conversation.

2454651, While that is what Lebron is supposed to say, and i applaud him for saying
Posted by Cenario, Wed Jun-10-15 08:43 AM
that, he may not be 100% correct. For one, this is the same strategy many teams used on Jordan, Kobe and other superstars. Lebron is shooting 40% this series. Golden State isn't 'letting' him score 40, but they certainly aren't doing everything in their power to stop him at all costs. There really hasn't been ball denial, or doubling Lebron as soon as he touches the ball or anything like that. And honestly, as long as Lebron is shooting low 40%s i don't think they need to change that strategy.

2454668, you gonna be ok?

Posted by legsdiamond, Wed Jun-10-15 11:10 AM
but if they want to win this series the strategy must change.

you can't rely on Golden State shooting lights out because the Cavs have something to say about that.

2454682, If it comes on 40% volume shooting, GS is fine w that
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Jun-10-15 09:45 AM
When he's having 55%+ shooting games and getting everyone involved, that's when a team has to change their defensive strategy over the course of the game. The key difference late in last night's game was that Delladova stepped up and gave Lebron some offensive help.
2454733, No they are not and did you watch the game
Posted by Musa, Wed Jun-10-15 12:14 PM
In OT he basically missed several shots but prior to that he was hitting almost everything.

With that said Lebron is scoring assisting and rebounding accounting for 60 to 70 points a game that is uncanny.
2454763, Lol did YOU watch the game?
Posted by Cenario, Wed Jun-10-15 01:30 PM
2454764, Nah, Lebron getting 40 is different than anyone else
Posted by Orbit_Established, Wed Jun-10-15 01:32 PM

Because if Lebron got 40, that means he got to
the line, wore down both perimeter players and
front court players and *definitely* had a lot
of assists (or at least hockey assists) because
he always looks to involve others

So the 40 is symbolic in a sense

It means he's controlling the pace and flow and
rhythm
2454802, He's going to do all those things regardless
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Jun-10-15 02:52 PM
But if he's scoring efficiently as well? You have no chance. That's the entire point of the post and why GS is ok playing him straight up with moderate shade help. He's gonna get assists because he's a great passer, wear out your defenders because of his physicality, and has the ball his hands to control the flow of the game...but if he's only converting his shots at a 40% clip, there's still a margin for error for the Warriors.
2454810, basically...if lebron is taking 30 shots its impossible to stop him from

Posted by auragin_boi, Wed Jun-10-15 08:05 AM
I mean, I had a feeling Clev could win this series but seeing Bron land where I've always thought he could has me thinking that nobody is stopping dude this year.

Like I said, he gets the Cavs a ring year one in this fashion with the adversity he/the team has faced and he's top 3 on my list.

After that, sky's the limit. Realistically, he can get 2 more after this one. But even if he gets back to back titles and fails in the 3rd year...I'd put him properly next to Jordan as Co-GOATS. He gets a 3 peat in Clev and 8 straight finals trips and he's the GOAT to me...blemishes be damned.

And he can do it.

2454721, Delly is the fkn Marine
Posted by mashpg89, Wed Jun-10-15 11:38 AM
He's that one undersized white dude in the gym who affects the game by overzealous defense and hustle, timely 3 pointers, and ugly ass floaters that somehow go in. Annoying as hell, but you've got to give him credit.

I agree that Steph needs to attack him without PnRs though, cause those barely slow Delly down. Curry needs to do a better job at getting him in foul trouble too, but he just seems too soft or whatever to match the physicality.
2454773, if i'm not mistaken the YMCA league played before work

2454742, People said the same thing during the Memphis series
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Jun-10-15 12:44 PM
and all year long any time Curry didn't play great there was Barkley talking some bullshit about jump shooting teams not being made for the playoffs and so and so and such and such.

Let's not act like he didn't pour it on late in the game.
2454745, Tony Allen did and when he got hurt is when that series turned

Allen sat out game 5. The grizzles got blown out in game 4 with Allen playing, but the warriors changed their defensive strategy against Allen.
2454794, he has been pushing that absurd narrative since it happened
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Jun-10-15 02:30 PM
as you pointed out in games 1 and 4 he played and the dubs won.

i admit allen's absence didn't help them but he wasnt going to make the difference. let's not pretend he didnt kill them on offense, too, the warriors were daring him to shoot. it was some playground shit where they saw he had no game, so they just put a big "on him." by that i mean they assigned bogut to him but told him to just sag off for help defense and rebounds. there were plays where no one was within 15 of allen when he got the ball, and he still clunked everything. i love tony allen but he wasnt bridging that gap. joerger had about as many adjustments available to make as any player of paper, rock, scissors. good initial adjustment and then poof nothing.
2454797, genius Tony Allen injured his hamstring in game 4 and only played 15...
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Jun-10-15 02:44 PM
minutes that's WHY he sat out game 5 and only played 5 minutes in game 6.

That's the only way GS was about to beat them 3 straight after going down 1-2.
2454804, how did they manage to lose game 1 badly with him playing 30+ minutes?
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Jun-10-15 03:04 PM
2454824, you ever hear of adjustments? are you really that fucking dumb to think...
Posted by ThaTruth, Wed Jun-10-15 04:12 PM
that losing one of the top perimeter defenders in the NBA, a 3-time first team all-defense performer when you're going against the highest scoring backcourt in the league and it doesn't make a difference or are you just being an asshole and arguing just to argue like usual?
2454825, Got Hurt = Them finding out he couldn't shoot
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jun-10-15 04:17 PM
2454833, Tony Allen's been in the league 11 years, I'm sure it wasn't a secret...

2454755, Rose flustered him that one OT game @ GS
Posted by RandomFact, Wed Jun-10-15 01:11 PM
Steph had 21 on 9-23.

Played him physical all game.
2454803, Delly has been great but the Cavs def key has been their PnR traps
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Jun-10-15 03:01 PM
Delly is able to body and knows the trap is coming...the few times where GS went 1-4, Curry was able to get good looks in the paint. Further, it's no coincidence that the GS offense really got ticking when Lee came in because his play-making versatility made Cleveland pay for that hard trap, something Bogut and Ezeli cannot do.

Two things I would do offensively if I'm Kerr: 1) D Lee at the 5 against Moz and involve him in the PnR...Blatt has at that point replaced Moz with Tristan. At that point, I let Steph take on that switch and attack because as we saw late in the game, although Tristan moves extremely well for a big, he cannot stay with Steph. That also takes one of Cleveland's rebounders away from the basket which opens up the offensive glass. 2) I know GS predicates their offense on ball movement but if I'm Kerr, I'm running a few more clear outs for Steph on the top of key bc of the few we saw, Curry can get into the paint against Delly.
2454914, Yes a few isos at the end of the world.
