2450921, Beta-male Dwight says he's still a champion.. smh. Posted by wrecknoble, Thu May-28-15 11:59 AM
http://www.slamonline.com/nba/dwight-howard-i-am-still-a-champion/#WkzcJRls4jYhZ8Bp.97
Per the Houston Chronicle: “I’m just disappointed,” Howard said. “It’s tough to get this far and to lose.”
Howard’s physical play and his dominance in the paint helped keep the Rockets alive, coach Kevin McHale said. “Dwight had a big night for us, 18 and 16, and he fought his way all through the game,” Howard said.
He went through a tumultuous season – missing 41 games with injuries. Two months of that was with edema in his right knee. “Every year is tough,” Howard said. “The injuries were hard, but I never stopped fighting. It’s tough but I wont stop fighting. I will continue to push myself to the limit and remember that no matter how the season ends, I am still a champion. I won’t let anyone tell me different.”

2450930, I'm going to tell you like I tell everyone else Posted by John Forte, Thu May-28-15 12:02 PM
Unless you've been in prison or combat, you have no idea if you or anyone else is alpha or beta because those distinctions do not exist in society.
|
2450933, That's cool. He's not a champion though. Posted by Ryan M, Thu May-28-15 12:04 PM
|
2450961, alpha vs beta is all situational Posted by wrecknoble, Thu May-28-15 12:25 PM
Someone dominates someone else in one arena, he/she is the alpha
Those roles could reverse in a completely different situation
That being said, Dwight is a beta compared to his peers. And his "well in my heart I'm a champion" comments only add to that image of him.
|
2450976, please keep using alpha/beta terminology Posted by Rjcc, Thu May-28-15 12:36 PM
it's an easy way to identify you as a particular type of person.

2450977, He put in work two playoffs in a row Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu May-28-15 12:36 PM
i am not a fan of d12 but you've got to either be a hater (lakers fan, free-throw instructor) or a dejected rox fan to be ripping him right now. i thought he played the hand he was dealt well.
the "i'm still a champion" thing sounds ridiculous, sure, but what is he supposed to say and believe? that he can never win? i swear some people just don't understand what it means to be a competitor.

Basically.....

2450987, He did put in work. Posted by Ryan M, Thu May-28-15 12:43 PM
He also put in cheap shots as he was losing. Fuck that guy.
|
2450993, That forearm to Iggy's shoulder/chin was some bullshit Posted by mrhood75, Thu May-28-15 12:46 PM
And he's lucky he didn't get ejected for deliberately popping Bogut in the face in Game #4. Which would have lead him to be suspended in Game 5.
|
2451010, RE: That forearm to Iggy's shoulder/chin was some bullshit Posted by Nick Has a Problem...Seriously, Thu May-28-15 12:59 PM
>And he's lucky he didn't get ejected for deliberately popping >Bogut in the face in Game #4. Which would have lead him to be >suspended in Game 5.
He wanted to get ejected. An easy and quick way out of defeat
|
2450995, Both teams played hard (c) Sheed Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu May-28-15 12:46 PM
No arguing that but the series was already over.
|
2450998, All the more reason NOT to cheap shot. Posted by Ryan M, Thu May-28-15 12:50 PM
But yeah, I know it was.

2451005, couldn't even be surprised Posted by T Reynolds, Thu May-28-15 12:54 PM
|
2451060, eh, there are two schools of thought on that Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu May-28-15 01:51 PM
hurt someone as part of competition, hurt someone as vengeance in a "lose the game but win the fight" kind of way.
i don't really subscribe to either. i like the more subtle, ongoing stay of dirty-ish play than some big moment like howard or horford had. those are counterproductive. i'm also less a fan of injuring people on purpose than i am of slowly sucking away their will to live over the course of a series.

>the "i'm still a champion" thing sounds ridiculous, sure, but >what is he supposed to say and believe?
We'll be back next year. It's all a part of the process. Nobody said a championship was going to come easy. Hat's off to Golden State. They were the better team.
Dwight balled out, but let's not act like this isn't silly.
|
2451053, 5 for 13 is considered "putting in work" for a dominant center today? Posted by ThaTruth, Thu May-28-15 01:46 PM
|
2451064, He shot .549 for the series, damn near 60% in the previous two Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu May-28-15 01:54 PM
You'll take the 16 and 14 per game he gave all playoffs, yes. Your own team was engaged in a mass effort to fellatiate him to stay, so stop bullshittin.
|
2451141, DeAndre Jordan put up similar numbers for half as much money... Posted by ThaTruth, Thu May-28-15 04:52 PM

yeah we did and I've also said he did us a favor by leaving because he's already in decline and will never lead a team anywhere
|
2451163, And yet they continue to suck more than any of his teams ever have Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu May-28-15 06:39 PM
and they will for the foreseeable future.
Jordan is about to be on his level money wise. For me, that doesnt change my answer, I chose DJ, remember? I been DJ's *only* fan on these boards since going into his draft and I still think he is slept on/unfairly discredited, to be honest.
That said, right today, if I had both guys healthy for one playoff series, I would probably take Dwight. Much longer than that, no question, DJ.
