Posted by GriftyMcgrift, Wed Oct-29-14 10:38 PM
all the manager talked about after the last bumgarner outing was to make him throw strikes,

shitty way to end
2383728, They should've sent Gordon home.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Oct-29-14 10:32 PM
Not that I was watching from a great angle, but you have to think the way he's pitching, the Royals' best chance is to force the play at the plate. Plus, how fucking exciting would it have been to come down to a play at the plate for a 10th inning?

Then again, since I didn't see a good replay, it's very possible that they made the right call. But I'm trying to ignore possible logic and I'm focusing on how awesome it would've been had the series hinged on a play at the plate.
2383733, i thought so too
Posted by J_Stew, Wed Oct-29-14 10:37 PM
He was hitting 3rd before the relay man had caught the throw
2383736, No they shouldn't have. It would have been a simple tag at the plate
Posted by LA2Philly, Wed Oct-29-14 10:38 PM
On the wide angle, you can see there's zero chance.
2383782, I didn't see this angle til later.
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Oct-30-14 12:36 AM
There's the part of me that feels like the catcher dropping it is more likely than Bumgarner giving up another hit, but that's not my brain talking.
2383850, it's not *that* unreasonable to think they had a better chance to score there
Posted by LegacyNS, Thu Oct-30-14 09:28 AM
than get another hit on Bumgarner cause he was locked the fuck in..

2383753, The second replay here is the best angle

http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/63106348/v36878067/ws2014-gm7-gordon-singles-takes-third-on-error

Gordon is just pulling into third when the cutoff man gets the ball. No chance he scores there
2383787, Hell naw, it would have taken a major fuckup for him to be safe
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Thu Oct-30-14 01:15 AM
And what do you do when he is gunned down at the plate and the game is much closer to over than with him standing on third? You would have to explain to a team that was one win away from being world champions that you thought they were too shitty to get a guy home from third.
2383865, Exactly. You don't run yourself out of the World Series
Posted by LA2Philly, Thu Oct-30-14 10:20 AM
2383913, Well, if the shoe fits...
Posted by Frank Longo, Thu Oct-30-14 12:05 PM
>you thought they were too
>shitty to get a guy home from third.

My brain tells me I'm kidding when I say the odds of the catcher dropping it are better than the odds of the next batter hitting off Bumgarner. Because, you know, math.
2383735, The jealousy I have toward SF is infinite
Posted by Ceej, Wed Oct-29-14 10:38 PM
During this tigers run to see a team win 3 in 5 and we have shit to show is just so disheartening. At least royals didn't win, that would have been way worse
2383868, amen...
Posted by LegacyNS, Thu Oct-30-14 10:26 AM
I wouldn't be able to deal with KC winning..

2383791, man, we all really hoped Alex Gordon was gonna push through.
Posted by Nodima, Thu Oct-30-14 05:12 AM
he's a hero to baseball fans in Nebraska the way Erstad was before him, and he's sustained that momentum in the majors the way his predecessor, Joba, never could. We all felt so bad for him that he was going to be the last out of the Series especially considering his knee'd been thumped so ridiculously earlier in the game but them, BLAM!, hope sprang eternal. KC taking the title felt like destiny again.

Then Perez had to go and swing at just about every pitch that came his way like some kind of hero.

2383795, We just witnessed a new trend in baseball being born
Posted by The Real, Thu Oct-30-14 06:28 AM
In the mid-to-late 80s to early 90s speed was the trend. They were trying to turn athletes into baseball players. Guess what...hitting a baseball if hard! So then baseball moved into power mode and the roid era was born to until somebody the media and "keepers of the game" hated basically said "I'll show you!"

The game got "cleaned up" power numbers dipped and boom - a new formula. All the teams left were basically the same. They had starting pitching that was only asked to go 6 innings, and then bullpens that had one guy after another that throws 160 MPH.

Welcome the the live arm era!

2383909, NL keeps fucking up by letting the Giants & Cards in the playoffs
