2381998, OKP Survivor Dynasty: cuz I reckon it needs its own post.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Oct-25-14 12:28 AM
Ernie, Shawn, Matty, and myself are in.

LABeat, Robe, and TJT all expressed interest but have yet to sign up.

Sign up info is either in your inbox or in the other Survivor post.

Here's what we need:
1. an even number of teams, preferably 8 or more
2. a time to draft before Tuesday

Cenario is whining via text, so I reckon he's out. Ryan may be in but he's out of town and probably couldn't draft.

This is an awesome opportunity to play with draft options and to, y'know, do Survivor dynasty style.

I reckon we could open it up to outside parties if necessary-- especially if AB is considering booting inactive members in the offseason, as it'd give us an idea of interested people and if those interested people are any good at all.

What say you, Survivors? And when would you want to draft?
2381999, Any reason we HAVE to start before the season?
Posted by ErnestLee, Sat Oct-25-14 12:02 AM
Would the site even allow us to wait? If that makes it easier to work out a draft and not rush. 8 is enough, would make for some fun stacked teams. Let's not overthink it, I reckon.
2382000, No reason, other than to get in a full season.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Oct-25-14 12:28 AM
If we can get the interested parties to simply sign up, I feel like the odds of all of us having a few hours before Tuesday night are probably pretty strong.

I'd be fine with 8. I just want at least 8. Figured that'd be wiser than *shudder* 6.
2382012, Olease

i can get him in tonight if you want.. im gonna see him later
2382083, Would he post on OKP?
Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Oct-25-14 04:51 PM
If we can fill it with members or former members, that'd be ideal, and I think if everyone who has committed signs up we should be good to go. But if we're looking at an odd number, I'll holler and we'll slide him in.
2382084, he doesnt know about OKP...
Posted by illmattic, Sat Oct-25-14 04:54 PM
but i could just introduce him and im sure he would post shit.. but no worries - just reminding u
2382085, I got you.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Oct-25-14 05:00 PM
I'll let you know.
2382099, When would people want to draft?
Posted by Frank Longo, Sat Oct-25-14 06:54 PM
A. Tomorrow (Sunday, probably too late to notify everyone and unrealistic)
B. Monday (potentially doable, depending on people's work schedules)
C. Tuesday (we could theoretically get it in before games start?)
D. Sometime during this week (while I realize we'll probably have to do this option, I would like to do it ASAP to miss as few games if any as possible)
2382101, C. I teach on Mondays
Posted by thejerseytornado, Sat Oct-25-14 07:20 PM
tmrw also ok, but not ideal at all

i like the idea but i don't want to drag it down by nt being able to be in the draft. too bad it's not 3 weeks ago.
2382191, Today seems ruled out for drafting, lol. Sign up, folks!
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Oct-26-14 12:06 PM
We may draft tomorrow or Tuesday as a bunch of people seem in for it!
2382301, Would Tuesday work for the non-Robes of the world?
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Oct-26-14 05:36 PM
It doesn't really work for me, but I plan on drafting primarily using contingency anyway.
2382454, 9 AM PST, 12 PM EST?
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Oct-26-14 10:08 PM
2382455, why dont we just start
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Sun Oct-26-14 10:09 PM
and use that time limit thing you said youd use
2382456, Are the teams set? If so, then yea, fire away
Posted by ErnestLee, Sun Oct-26-14 10:18 PM
Couple speed sessions. Worst case we're done by Wednesday.
2382468, Not quite set. That's the issue.
Posted by Frank Longo, Sun Oct-26-14 11:03 PM
Plus if a couple of guys can't roll on Monday then that's gonna completely kill their clock.

Plus one or two guys who signed up haven't responded re: draft time.

I think Ryan should sign up soon, then we'd have 8 and can be ready to go. I just want to make sure Matty and LA Beat are on board with Tuesday.
2382561, Ryan seems to be in. Once he signs up, I'll set up the draft.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Oct-27-14 12:04 PM
I have some people interested in a brief window, finding two hours in which everyone can draft, by contingency or otherwise, and others interested in doing the "individual timer method." Any preference?
2382581, On a plane with weak wifi.
Posted by Ryan M, Mon Oct-27-14 12:28 PM
Will sign up when I get home in the next few hours.
2382626, Just start the draft once Ryan joins
Posted by ErnestLee, Mon Oct-27-14 02:27 PM
If everyone is active we should be able to knock it out quick. I can do a couple midday speed sessions as well. But I wouldnt worry about finishing before Tuesday night tip off.
2382673, So start it sans timer?
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Oct-27-14 05:02 PM
I can do that.
2382675, Yea, why not?
Posted by ErnestLee, Mon Oct-27-14 05:09 PM
With only 8 guys if everyone is active, should move quick. Reevaluate when you need to.
2382628, is 8 really enough?
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Mon Oct-27-14 02:34 PM
I guess were running this kind of as a beta but its hard cause we wont necessarily add new teams if its a dynasty
2382678, it being a dynasty is why i'm not inclined to do a halfassed draft
Posted by rob, Mon Oct-27-14 05:17 PM
and why i haven't joined yet. would rather draft late this season when i have time, but i know a lot of y'all actually do have time.
2382680, when do you have time?
Posted by LAbeathustla, Mon Oct-27-14 05:18 PM
2382682, weekends, thanksgiving friday, week after christmas, lol.
Posted by rob, Mon Oct-27-14 05:40 PM
i never have daytime time. i only get by in regular survivor drafts because they're slow and getting more predictable.
2382681, I'm in.
Posted by Ryan M, Mon Oct-27-14 05:27 PM
2382684, can we be liberal with draft time limits?
Posted by illmattic, Mon Oct-27-14 05:46 PM
i am a teacher like a couple others and my windows are limited
2382686, more than 8 teams would be ideal.. possible?

2382705, after 5pm PST.....sure
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Mon Oct-27-14 07:19 PM
2382706, well shit, i could do that
Posted by rob, Mon Oct-27-14 07:22 PM
if we're drafting after 5 pm pacific i could do that any day but wednesday.

i'd assumed we were doing some survivor bullshit where we draft only during times when people work.
2382708, I think we're doing the normal "spread out over a couple days" thing.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Oct-27-14 07:24 PM
At least, that's what it seems like people are into. The people who are responding, anyhow.

If you want in under those conditions, sign up and I'll find a 12th (probably Matinho's guy).

We'll probably draft gradually over the next day or two. I'm going to set a lot of contingency picks just to be on the safe side, to try to keep the thing moving while I'm at work tomorrow.

I'm actually heading to work now, so if you have any questions, email me: russellhainline@gmail.com
2382839, I fucked up. Accidentally started the draft too soon.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Oct-27-14 10:13 PM
My bad, guys. New to this commissioner thing. I hadn't finished setting up everything necessary before the draft started.

Does anyone have any complaints about me restarting it? Can we make the sister league the one without massive amounts of bitching, or am I doomed to receive an AB level of outrage?
2382842, This is a no complaints league
Posted by ErnestLee, Mon Oct-27-14 10:14 PM

>Does anyone have any complaints about me restarting it?
2382868, IMPORTANT ROSTER-SIZE NOTE FOR EVERYONE:
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Oct-27-14 10:28 PM
You have 15 roster spots, by necessity for the dynasty format (functions as IR/stashing young prospects/etc). And we can only draft 12 on WS.

So we'll need to do three rounds on OKP after the draft is finished. I'm totally open for suggestions for the most fair way to do this.
2382892, PLAYER POOL STYLE LIGHTING ROUNDS!!!

2382911, One of my ideas *is* a lightning round, lol.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Oct-27-14 11:01 PM
13th and 14th round snake style, 15th a lightning round.

Or we could just do the 15th the opposite order of the 1st round, if no one objects.
2382913, Dude its free. Do what the hell you want
Posted by ErnestLee, Mon Oct-27-14 11:02 PM
2382916, Third again!!?? Setting a shit load of contingencies.

Edit: Well, 20 I guess.

5 Duval County
6 Los Angeles
7 Lefferts Gardens
8 San Diego
9 East River
10 philadelphia
11 s.i

2382932, Yeah, what's in the live draft is the official draft order.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Oct-27-14 11:15 PM
2382928, I'll probably end up drafting exclusively from contingency.
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Oct-27-14 11:15 PM
Gotta work all day tomorrow but I wanna keep it moving.
2382943, someone should post a primer on how to draft a player
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Mon Oct-27-14 11:27 PM
Warrens gonna bang his head on the computer trying to figure it out
2382947, HOW TO DRAFT:
Posted by Frank Longo, Mon Oct-27-14 11:40 PM
Step 1: Add a player to your contingency
Step 2: Save your contingency
Step 3: he's drafted
2382944, i set my first and second preferences so whenever he picks.
Posted by rob, Mon Oct-27-14 11:28 PM
i don't think we've discussed it, but have we thought about how we're doing the dynasty parts of this? it will definitely affect the later rounds.

why didn't i get second pick in real survivor.

2383012, yeah, i'd like to have a required # of players dropped
Posted by thejerseytornado, Tue Oct-28-14 10:24 AM
otherwise, especially w/ 12 teams w 15 slots.

say every year we have to drop half the roster. or you can't keep players for more than X years, or you can't have a sum total of X years on your roster at a given time (so if you have a max of 15 years of "on roster experience" you could keep everyone for one year, or keep 5 players for 3 years, or 3 players for 3 years and 6 for one, etc.)

but we don't have to figure that out now, we just need TO GET TO DRAFTING.

Just cause a team will stay dominant forever?

I dont know if we should have 15 slots.

I think we should think about add drops- Maybe limit those somehow.

Worst team gets top draft pick or integrate our own lottery

2383015, Worst team gets top pick seems like common sense.
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Oct-28-14 10:38 AM
It will help the worst teams have a reason to stay active.

As for all the other stuff, I don't really see a reason to make it more complicated. We're all active players-- don't like someone on your team? Trade or drop them. I'm obviously open to suggestion but I just don't see the benefit for further complication.
2383017, i don't do a lot of dynasty leagues but i'd assume competitiveness and attention
Posted by rob, Tue Oct-28-14 10:40 AM
attentiveness slacks off if you don't have more roster turnover after the first draft.

2383021, the cool thing is a bad team can trade for future pieces
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Tue Oct-28-14 10:44 AM
Most dynasty leagues (few) ive been a part of arent full rosters.

But the ease of full rosters intrigues me....though how much dynasty are we looking at if we can add drop at will?

What if there was a whole waivers process for adding/signing a new player?
2383024, Hence the 15-man roster.
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Oct-28-14 10:48 AM
There will almost certainly be rookies or second-year guys who are clear future assets who you can't realistically start this year yet you may want to keep on your squad. Same for injured players.

There will probably be a couple of win-now pieces on every team, and teams should have the freedom to add/drop to adjust those pieces to their heart's desire imo. I don't really see how limiting the number of add/drops would encourage owners to stay active.
2383022, It depends on the owners either way.
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Oct-28-14 10:45 AM
I was in a free dynasty league on WS with a ton of rules and regulations (with Shawn and AB), and I bailed on that. It seemed like the owners weren't around too much, and it was too much work.

I'm also in a free dynasty league in which you keep every player and only draft rookies the following year-- as simple as it gets-- which is a lot of fun because the owners stay active. There are maybe one or two who don't do much more other than keep their lineups set, but most of the league shit talks, offers trades, etc. Teams that are bad try to collect assets for the future by trading win-now guys to teams in title contention, etc. Keeps it fun.

Just depends on who is in the league. I think because we have mostly Survivor guys (and guys who post on OKP a good amount), it will stay pretty active. And if someone seems inactive, we can always figure out a way to boot them and give a new more active member incentive to join.
2383038, whose turn is it to draft? i'm bout to roll out for a few

Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Oct-28-14 05:12 PM
It'll still say Machado in the draft, but it says Dirk on his roster.
2383159, I'm so confused as to how that happened.
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Oct-28-14 05:14 PM
2383162, does that mean i cant draft machado?
Posted by ShawndmeSlanted, Tue Oct-28-14 05:26 PM
2383166, No, you can feel free to draft Machado. He's available.

saved 40 contingencies. hit save, ws said they saved, saw it all.
2383155, ...and he was in your 40 contingencies?
Posted by Ryan M, Tue Oct-28-14 05:10 PM
2383174, ws said they saved and they didn't
Posted by bshelly, Tue Oct-28-14 06:04 PM
absolutely i had more than 20 names on their. i hit the save button, the page reloaded, and all those names were still there. silly me.

i know that ws's awfulness is part of the charm for y'all, but, silly me, i expect a web site who's business is fantasy sports to be able to go more than 20 names deep before it defaults to a guy who didn't play in the nba last season. not going to be a problem, since i'm not doing any more contingencies.
2383156, ah the bshelly we remember
Posted by ErnestLee, Tue Oct-28-14 05:12 PM
max contingency is 20.

>saved 40 contingencies. hit save, ws said they saved, saw it

Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Oct-28-14 06:52 PM
So we're waiting for him to pick.

I sent him an email to the email he used to start his OKP account (so it's probably defunct) and an inbox on OKP.

We just have to wait.

Still, we've made some good progress here. We could probably finish by tonight.

2383574, i slowed y'all down a bit these past two, doing my best :)
Posted by rob, Wed Oct-29-14 07:28 PM
chess club, baseball team practice, science demos for parents

in my quick picks it's felt like there's a lot slimmer pickings but maybe it's because we're still avoiding a lot of 30 year olds. i know i'd have picked more older dudes but i don't think i need the minutes.

when we do do those 13-15th guys are they just held in reserve and not part of our active rosters for points purposes? and we use add drop if we want to call someone up?

any rules about how that works?

2383576, Here's how 13-15 work, if I recall from my other WS dynasty experience.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Oct-29-14 07:31 PM
They exist on your roster, but they are grayed out-- they can't get you any points, even if you're short on minutes from your top twelve guys.

In order to "call them up," you simply drag them to an active top twelve spot in your roster. Whoever is twelfth will automatically turn gray and be "inactive" for fantasy purposes.

But it's not like the Survivor IR or anything. Nothing nearly that confusing. If you don't want a guy in your top twelve, or he's on IR, or you're just stashing a young prospect, just drag him to the bottom of your lineup.
2383876, Bitch took my Eurostash
