2381514, OkayBlowhards Week 8: This is why you're dragging down our league
Posted by will_5198, Fri Oct-24-14 10:44 AM
after 12 years (dear God) of playing fantasy football with most of you, I've noticed a certain blasé attitude from the collective ownership. the same bad drafts. the same inability to use the waiver wire. the same go-nowhere, downward-spiral-into-ass-bracket seasons from some of you. these issues are bigger than arguing about Bobby Rainey's role in the NFL, or whether Toby Gerhart is a RB22 or RB23. the hate honeymoon is over, and some of you need to step up for the greater good.

bshelly -- you're old, so that would seem to make fantasy sports a priority, but then again you're yet (?) unmarried so you can still do interesting shit when not posting here. I think crossing the championship threshold was enough for you, and it's been autopilot since then. bragging about having Carolina's quarterback as a keeper is so 2012.

Ceej -- picking on our overweight bearded friend and your golfing buddy is a little too on the nose. and even then, you wrote love letters to Ser Piggy after losing to him this year. find new targets (theprofessional barely counts).

cereffusion -- being everyone's punching bag is fine and all, but it's funnier if I don't actually feel sorry for you. losing four in a row and generally inept management hurts me as much as it does you. please try and be better.

ErnestLee -- we all love your expert opinions on everything, but it's hard to take you seriously when Warren Coolidge has been to the playoffs more times than you in the last half-decade.

Frank Longo -- grow some balls. we need that Mike Greenberg, know-it-all-even-when-you-don’t-shit vibe from the podcasts back. the "wait and see" B/W "pessimistic pity party" gets you nowhere. the next time you end Ernest's season by a fraction of a point, dance on the grave.

KCPlayer21 -- you do all the background work and have kids...so you get a pass. although you should stop drafting old people as some twisted sign of solidarity.

Lost in Dubai / Brooklyn -- Bueller? letting KC win with 86 points is not cool.

theprofessional -- actually, just keep it up. there's still a certain irrelevance to your attempts at infuriating, because we know you're a paper champion, but you damn sure are trying.

other Asian -- I dunno, you weren't as annoying as you should've been for getting to the title game with Darren McFadden last year. now I just feel bad for your team.

smutsboy -- please think up some dumbass rule that will make us unify against you.

Warren Coolidge -- we all knew the cosmic forces that you had mastered for the last three years would come back to strike you down eventually. too bad we don't allow return yardage, you could be undefeated. please get back to your winning ways because it really pisses Ernest and cere off. and cere only posts when he's mad. also, try not to self-sabotage your playoff contender again, because even CyrenYoung won a title in this league...and until you do, your virtual Yahoo trophy case means nothing to us.

me -- not draft Montee Ball.

****

waiver move of the week

DROP: QB Kirk Cousins, Washington
- the guy who was better than Drew Brees in a dome 72 hours before is now available for any team to pick-up. it's like adding the ninth pick in the draft for free.

week 8 previews

pro gets back on track against a breakdown-challenged KC team that is relying on Peyton against his nemesis, the Chargers. WC has a bunch of bad matchups and gets to see Ronnie Hillman fuck his team for the third time in two years. Frank is at full strength against Shawn, who is starting three receivers that are the fourth options on their own teams.

if the Smusher can't go, their might be a dueling Browns running back battle between smuts and Matinho, as both teams stay irrelevant. bshelly and cere enter the Thunderdome with two squads shitting the bed weekly, the former just being luckier based on schedule. can't wait to see if Doug Martin or Stepfan Taylor will make the difference in that one. and Ernie has a lot of good matchups, so in-game health-permitting, he should get the win over yours truly.

2381714, nice work. i agree league apathy is becoming an issue.
Posted by theprofessional, Fri Oct-24-14 09:30 AM
i realize a milky way galaxy record 16-game regular season winning streak is demoralizing, but it's like people are just resigned to me running the league now. fight harder, people. get back on your games. i should never hear the end of cousinsgate.

but, yeah, there's some bad managing going on all around. sarah's holding for dear life onto risk he can't afford to hold onto. he'll be 3-6 by the time his ship gets righted. matt traded away aaron rodgers (good move) for peanuts (bad move). warren, despite drafting RBs with his first three picks and keeping another, is starting a guy named boobie dixon at RB2 this week (who he spent 55 bucks on-- good RB money after bad). ceej has adrian peterson on his roster for some reason (give it up, it's over; go back and watch mckinnon rack up 100+ yards rushing-- 5.2 ypc-- on the NFL's #1 run defense last week; it's over) and still thinks ronnie hillman is someone he should be talking trash about. shawn might have the worst group of WRs ever assembled, now that will's WR all lucked into relevant roles.

speaking of, you're on a nice run here, will, but there should be some acknowledgement of your spectacular good fortune. you drafted a borderline terrible team and then in a two or three week span had four guys go down with injuries (ridley, richardson, calvin, cruz) that directly benefited your players (vereen, bradshaw, tate, randle). don't think i've seen anything like that.

in other news, win or lose, every week that goes by, my team gets better. we're now just four weeks away from me having a nuclear weapon in my flex. get your bomb shelters built, fellas.
2381728, All I heard was Kirk Cousins something something Drew Brees

2382004, lol, letting
Posted by theprofessional, Sat Oct-25-14 02:52 AM
2381859, oh, please do not tell me Trent Richardson was blocking Ahmad Bradshaw
Posted by will_5198, Fri Oct-24-14 02:09 PM
because even with no cartilage in both ankles, Bradshaw was out-playing TwoYPC-Rich since the first snap of the season, and getting the majority of looks on passing downs and red-zone.
2382005, richardson is the colts leading rusher, so...
Posted by theprofessional, Sat Oct-25-14 03:01 AM
yes, his injury is a substantial benefit to bradshaw. and i almost forgot about harvin randomly getting traded out of his completely hopeless situation. just an unprecedented number of breaks the past few weeks. and you're still just 3-4. impressive.
2382034, Bradshaw has outscored Richardson all season
Posted by will_5198, Sat Oct-25-14 10:47 AM
so nah...it doesn't really change anything. Bradshaw was already the red-zone back (same number of rushing touchdowns). Bradshaw was already the passing game back (6 receiving touchdowns).

Bradshaw is old so his touches aren't going to rise dramatically with Richardson out. he's just going to keep producing the same, better numbers.

and Harvin just kind of sucks. right now the trade is equaling a three-week bye, so that's hardly a benefit.
2381860, AP in the reserved spot on my roster is really hurting me
Posted by Ceej, Fri Oct-24-14 02:12 PM
And please keep telling us about how you used to own Ronnie Hillman or that week he outscored your whole backfield.

2382006, how about using that spot on someone's who's gonna play this year
Posted by theprofessional, Sat Oct-25-14 03:09 AM
it's week 8. absolute best-case scenario, AP gets reinstated next week, serves a six-week suspension, and comes back in week 15 just in time to anchor your team in the playoffs you won't make. but now i'm managing your team for you. do you, homey.
2382014, So just put anyone there? Are u this dumb in real life?
Posted by Ceej, Sat Oct-25-14 08:13 AM
2382090, this is as silly as the Bennett fiasco.
Posted by cereffusion, Sat Oct-25-14 05:21 PM
2381967, you'd be surprised about the market for Rodgers..
Posted by illmattic, Fri Oct-24-14 06:55 PM
i thought i got a good return, but i probably overvalued both Tate (my having Crowell was a part of this thinking) and Sankey.. i tried, the rest of my roster and my lineup decisions are the real problem
2382007, i respect the attempt though
Posted by theprofessional, Sat Oct-25-14 03:13 AM
you were probably gonna struggle with or without rodgers, and russ is more than capable, so might as well take a swing for the fences.
2381769, I already did!

.
2382011, Is the apathy a function of the league being the same for too long?
Posted by bshelly, Sat Oct-25-14 07:34 AM
I'm starting to move into the smuts camp. Maybe we should make big rules changes for next season just to shake it up. Right now, we've all been playing with the same format and scoring system so long that everyone knows how to play the game a little too well. The auction is a good start, but should we go further? Blow it up to 14 or 16 teams? Two QBs? The only thing I'll always oppose is yardage bonuses, because arbitrary thresholds are stupid.

Of course, pro's success in his first few years in the league suggest that we haven't figured it all it. I don't know. Just trying to figure out how to care about fantasy football again.
2382076, we DEFINITELY need to make it 4 point passing TDs..
Posted by illmattic, Sat Oct-25-14 03:02 PM
6 point passing TDs is a total relic and i'm shocked we use it honestly.. its nonsense
2382088, I feel like all the good shit talk happens on facebook now.

2382087, Inept management?
Posted by cereffusion, Sat Oct-25-14 05:14 PM
I was just rosturbating pretty vigorously.

Andew Luck is who I thought he was.
Jukin Joique Bell...only good thing in Detroit right now and scoring tds.
Sneaky Keeper Jeremy Maclin.
And coming back from injury Jimmy Graham and Calvin Johnson.

Then we have second half studs Double Digit Denard, Drew's new favorite target, and Jonas Gray. Throw in Eric Decker and Dwayne Allen for good measure and we have something brewing here.

We're making a run and it'll be because of a bunch of guys I added despite having basically no waiver wire points.

Those guys that were AIDS that I traded who were then suddenly so valuable? Injured or useless.

But ya'll can keep making up what happens to fit your narrative. My team was on the ropes and ya'll let me make the transactions to position myself pretty well moving forward. So, please be better.

Ernie and Pro are very impressive to me in terms of their roster management, even if neither wins the title.. eyes for talent and great approaches

i wanted to scoop mckinnon when i heard the AP news, i went to do it right when i heard, and i saw pro had picked him up like 2 hours earlier. okbh might be pro's homepage

you need to experience for a season to really grasp.
2382369, Kelce and Harvin have also been terrible
Posted by ErnestLee, Sun Oct-26-14 07:05 PM
But they were able to finish the game and net you 13 points. Not sure what is so hard to comprehend about this.

but tell me the last skill player traded midseason who made any sort of impact.

2382376, and if Harvin had gotten hurt and scored less than those six points
Posted by will_5198, Sun Oct-26-14 07:13 PM
I wouldn't be in here crying about all my injury bad luck. because Harvin hasn't been good all season. Kelce is actually pretty solid; low-end 10 ppg kind of guy. ie twice the man that Cameron aspires to be.

starting crappy to mediocre players and complaining about crappy to mediocre results = all Ernie's losses.
2382378, Yea
Posted by ErnestLee, Sun Oct-26-14 07:19 PM

>
>starting crappy to mediocre players and complaining about
>crappy to mediocre results = all Ernie's losses.

I should be starting Fred Jackson. Or Victor Cruz. Or AJ Green. Or Steven Ridley. The only injury you had has actually saved you from an epically bad draft pick and you are STILL starting crappy to mediocre players. Whats your excuse?
2382381, you lost one stud and one game due to in-game injuries
Posted by will_5198, Sun Oct-26-14 07:32 PM
and the second part barely counts because Ben Tate is one of those aforementioned mediocre players.

if you lose this week it's because you started Tre Mason, Jordan Cameron (healthy or not), Torrey Smith (a WR2 on no planet), and your studs (maybe) didn't show up. and according to your "cere rule" you don't get to cry about injuries that you know about pre-game.
2382386, Yea, you just dont get it

2382343, 24 points for Torrey Smith, Jordan Cameron and Andrew Hawkins
Posted by will_5198, Sun Oct-26-14 06:36 PM
is exactly correct and fair. those three have scored less than five points per game when actually healthy.

plus you still have Rodgers against possibly the worst defense in the NFL, Red-Zone Cobb, and the number-one-rusher-who-nobody-believes-was-drafted-after-Montee-Ball to play.

2382925, I don't think you understand what those words mean
Posted by will_5198, Mon Oct-27-14 11:11 PM
1. Romo averages about 20 points per game, Morris 10...outscoring Murray by 20 going into tonight was going to be a long shot.
2. Romo is solid. so him missing time is not equitable to Jordan Cameron or Torrey Smith (if Brees or Cobb or Murray had gotten hurt in game, that's more tolerable for you to whine about).
3. most importantly, I didn't immediately log-on and start crying about a couple shitty players getting hurt and how nothing is fair in fantasy football.

McCoy has the pedigree
2383074, no, but i outscored you
Posted by theprofessional, Tue Oct-28-14 01:08 PM
i admit though, i was pretty impressed by those two TDs hillman scored last week. you can tell they really trust him in the red zone, and that role should only increase when montee ball returns.

in unrelated news, here's a wiki page i read about juwan thompson that you might enjoy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_vulture

and here's a heartwarming picture of ronnie hillman treating his fellow bronco RBs juwan thompson, montee ball, and c.j. anderson to lunch:

2383075, You definitely didnt watch the game

2383083, nothing is funnier than sarah's last-minute cecil shorts pickups
Posted by theprofessional, Tue Oct-28-14 01:26 PM
for the third time this season, sarah panic-added cecil shorts to his roster late on a sunday morning, and once again things have gone horribly wrong. last time, he blew 40 bucks to get taliaferro back. this time he's broke, but i almost want to donate him the rest of my waiver budget to see what he'd do next.
2383085, Starting Cousins over Brees is much funnier

Posted by cereffusion, Tue Oct-28-14 04:49 PM
I don't need points to outsmart you all.

and this is a pretty transparent attempt to deflect attention away from your inept roster moves lately.

are we still talking about julio jones?

how come you don't own Denvers starting running back anymore?
2383144, and uh
Posted by cereffusion, Tue Oct-28-14 04:54 PM
unless October 15 and September 20 are Sundays...you're completely full of shit and just making things up at this point.

if you're so smart - you won't need to do that.
2383510, lol, you actually went back and checked!
Posted by theprofessional, Wed Oct-29-14 02:17 PM
you fool! i didn't panic-add cecil shorts three times on sunday mornings, i panic-added cecil shorts ONCE on a sunday morning and two other times on saturday nights! you have been crushed, sir... CRUSHED, i say, under the weight of your own brazen lies!
2383616, i have a lot of tabs open - ask ernie.
Posted by cereffusion, Wed Oct-29-14 08:29 PM
sort by adds. took less than ten seconds.

you're losing it.

2383512, anybody else want to get in on this yulio yones bashing?
Posted by theprofessional, Wed Oct-29-14 02:30 PM
or are the rest of you smart enough to realize that yulio yones es de number one player you should be trading for right this second? you won't get him in this league, but you should be running to your trade desks in any other leagues to try to acquire him. there's a very good chance the guy who has him is as bad at fantasy football as ernie and sarah, and would be happy to part with him after a slow month and an upcoming bye.

you might be able to get josh gordon too if the guy who has him is desperate and needs to win now. gordon for larry fitz? bet you could get that.
2383522, Might be able to package him with Kirk Cousins and get a real haul
Posted by ErnestLee, Wed Oct-29-14 03:31 PM
2383560, too bad this isn't a point per witty remark league
Posted by theprofessional, Wed Oct-29-14 06:37 PM
20 or 30 more of those and you might have had a chance to beat me.
2383562, That type of league isn't real

2383566, or a point per god awful lineup decision

the strategy of benching the #8 pick.
2384038, honestly, i got bored
Posted by theprofessional, Thu Oct-30-14 04:29 PM
it's fun to win. it's not fun to win in your sleep. after 16 straight wins, i got bored. decided to see what would happen if, instead of standing in the pocket and picking y'all apart like i'd been doing for a year straight, what if i tried rolling to my right and throwing back across the field off my back foot with the wrong hand? ended up throwing a pick-six, but at the end of the day i'm always gonna need to be challenged-- that's just who i am. and if it's not y'all doing it, i'll do it myself. NO RAGRETS.
2383291, Shawn, congrats on update duty this week.....
