Yes, trade the only outfielder they have with any range and a reasonable contract so they can keep an easily replaceable manager who bungled the bullpen in the playoffs. That's definitely the way to win.

I was hoping the Dodger would find a reason to promote Young Joc this season but it seems as long as Colletti is around, they're willing to punt defense up in the middle and in the outfield in general. There's always a chance a rookie won't hit so having someone who can slide there and field passably with a good bad in that case is definitely a plus.

I mean I admit I'm totally biased that my dream Dodger outfield next year is Kemp/Young Joc/Puig, and I could handle it if for some reason that's not it, but if the reason they break that up is some really stupid reason like they want to keep Mattingly or they want a middle reliever, I'll be pissed. If Puig could fetch them a young shortstop who could field and hit I'd see it, but I don't know who's out there.

honestly I would let Hanley go.... get rid of Crawford and Ethier.....

We should use Alex Guerrero at Short Stop....

and go out and get a vet 3B.... (Corey Saeger only played 38 games at AA last year...kind of wish they had moved him quicker)

or you could even use Arruburena at SS and move Guerrero to 3B...

going young like that will let us use the money we save on pitching...bullpen...starting depth..

Putting him at SS or 3b wouldn't do much to shore up the defense, especially when it means not playing Uribe who is one of the best fielding 3b in the league.

I want him to play a season without his ear being bit off before I say he can't do something in the field...lol..

He had a hall of fame caliber career.

Puig's a good player. He's only frustrating because the tools are there to be even better, and that can be said for a lot of young players. He's young, and his contract is cheap for his production now.....and would be a huge bargain if he improves and becomes the player many think he can.

I'd calm down and let him develop.

but I don't see how trading Puig would change either of those things

there are maybe 10-20 position players in the history of baseball who wouldn't trade their careers for Manny's

He's 63rd all-time in rWAR among position players. He won a World Series. He made over $200 million. He won a batting title. Led the league in HRs. Winning an MVP was probably the only big ticket item he missed. He helped break the curse in Boston, so extra points for that on the career.

On the flip side, there is the whole PED thing which might have spooked a couple of gruff guys along the way like Frank Thomas. He bounced around a little, so maybe some one city lifers like Ron Santo wouldn't trade it. Maybe all that money wouldn't have mattered to somebody like Jackie Robinson, who accomplished something culturally and historically monumental.

Just eyeballing the guys around him on the rWAR list, and doing some armchair psychologizing, I'll say conservatively that there are 50-100 players that wouldn't trade their career for Manny. BB-Ref has 16,431 players in their database since 1901.

So we can go with 99.994 - 99.997%

The Los Angeles Dodgers will name Tampa Bay Rays general manager Andrew Friedman as their new president of baseball operations, sources told ESPN.

Ned Colletti, who has been the Dodgers general manager since 2005, will remain with the club in a new role as senior advisor to the president and CEO of the Dodgers, Stan Kasten.

Sources said that Friedman, in his role as president of baseball operations, will have the ability to hire a general manager.

Landing the 37-year-old Friedman is a coup for the Dodgers. A handful of teams have tried unsuccessfully to poach the talented young executive with a Wall Street background, who piloted the small-market, budget-conscious Rays to six consecutive winning seasons and four playoff appearances after taking over in 2008.

This season, however, the Rays finished fourth in the American League East (77-85) after trading away ace left-hander David Price to the Detroit Tigers in order in order to get a return on the former Cy Young Award winner before he could leave as a free agent after next season.

In Los Angeles, where the Dodgers had the highest payroll in baseball last season and an ownership group that's shown a willingness to spend since purchasing the team for $2.15 billion in 2012, Friedman will have no such financial pressures to manage.

The Dodgers have won the National League West two consecutive years, but have twice lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in the playoffs -- first in the NLCS and this season in the NLDS.

This season's failure to advance out of the divisional series immediately began speculation that Colletti's job may be on the line. However, sources insist that the team's performance in the playoffs is not the reason the team pursued Friedman.

Kasten has long believed a strong farm system is the key to organizational success. It's how he and John Scheurholtz built the Atlanta Braves in the 1990s. And Friedman's strengths in player development and scouting dovetail perfectly with Kasten's vision.

Ironically, sources say the Dodgers' failed pursuit of a trade for Price this summer only heightened their admiration of Friedman. Said one source: "They always asked for the right prospects. Not just the guys everybody knows, either."
