after a quarter, anyway. Pirates up 14-0 in Blacksburg.
2367557, 21-0 zip now, you probably could beat us this year lol

2367564, I dont understand why VPI keeps playing yall
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat Sep-13-14 12:03 PM
No mid-major has haunted a Power 5 team the way ECU does VPI
2367567, our uniforms are consistently among the worst in college football
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat Sep-13-14 12:15 PM
Fucking Russell Athletic
2367569, i used to rock Russell Athletic hoodies heavy back in junior high though

2367588, i know will is joking but we should have won that game nonetheless
Posted by guru0509, Sat Sep-13-14 02:01 PM
2 missed field goals iirc

a dropped td pass by corey smith

and at least two or three miscues by barrett that could have gone for 6...

terrible loss

Ga Southern with 28 unanswered 2nd half points to take a 38-35 lead with 10:46 and their fans are LOUD
2367586, UVA looks pretty decent versus Louisville
Posted by MothershipConnection, Sat Sep-13-14 01:55 PM
I don't feel so bad about UCLA squeaking by them in Week 1, their front 7 is legit.
2367591, Tom Herman gave ECU the blueprint on how to NOT play VT
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sat Sep-13-14 02:42 PM
you're welcome
2367592, When's the last time Va Tech had a non ugly looking offense?
Posted by MothershipConnection, Sat Sep-13-14 02:45 PM
I mean sometimes they score, and they get a lot of talent and put guys in the NFL, but I can't remember a time in the last decade I thought "Man, I really like watching that Va Tech team on offense!"
2367616, Michael or Marcus Vick?
Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Sat Sep-13-14 05:37 PM
QB play has been abysmal for most the time since
2367628, Hell it wasn't that pretty when Michael was there
Posted by MothershipConnection, Sat Sep-13-14 06:00 PM
I mean I know this was a bit before the spread option took over and he took them to a title game, but there were times you were like "They should just let #7 run around back there"
2367654, Ryan Williams & David Wilson 1-2 punch
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sat Sep-13-14 07:58 PM
Altho Tyrod Taylor was better than he got credit for
2367604, UM is a trainwreck. I knew we'd be "bad"
Posted by brown sugar, Sat Sep-13-14 04:20 PM
But I thought we'd have a deceptively good record because
our strength of schedule would be even "badder." The
coaching is just not getting it done. The D has shown up
but that last sequence on offense before the half was BRUTAL.
2367667, Man...smh...
Posted by soulfunk, Sat Sep-13-14 08:55 PM
2367843, trainwreck is a bit much
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sun Sep-14-14 12:56 PM
For only a freshman its obvious Peppers is an irreplaceapble part of the back 7. He gives the D so much flexibility. Plus it seemed like Countess and Lewis built off their mistakes last week.

As far as the offensive game flow however...I dont get it. There's no reason to *ever* take that long to get lined up and snap the ball, much less as the half is winding down.

And I still think Derrick Green is David Underwood reincarnate.
2367907, green...curtis grant...Hermitage looking like a 5 star bust factory
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Sep-14-14 03:09 PM
>And I still think Derrick Green is David Underwood
>reincarnate.

there was a lot of consternation amongst OSU fans when Meyer didn't continue to recruit Green (who was high on Tressel's wish list)...seemed like Meyer had that one nailed.
2367998, he cant read the line...terrible flaw for a RB in a zone blocking system
Posted by cgonz00cc, Sun Sep-14-14 05:39 PM
If he can run directly at a gap he's useful

But if he has to read zone blocking and select a cut, he ends up running straight into a pile (which he cant move, despite his size)
2367605, PURPLE
Posted by will_5198, Sat Sep-13-14 04:22 PM
GOLD

holy shit, ECU played perfect "choke the game away" offense from the 2nd through 4th quarter...but finally got their balls back at the end. good game.
2367606, I'm not sure Minnesota has six wins on their schedule
Posted by Marauder21, Sat Sep-13-14 04:30 PM
They'll need to beat Illinois on the road, and they may not be capable of that.
2367611, Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, and San Jose State
Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Sat Sep-13-14 05:23 PM
I think you got it, plus Iowa has been far from world beaters and you beat UNL last year, although winning in Lincoln this year should be more difficult

Plus Michigan is hardly a juggernaut, even in Ann Arbor

Big Ten is a mess outside of MSU, who knows what teams shows up from week-to-week
2367609, At least Vandy has UK on their schedule
Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Sat Sep-13-14 05:19 PM
with powerhouses Charleston Southern and ODU on their schedule, it's okay to dream of 4 wins, but 3 is probably likely

Having to rally against UMass at home, Derek Mason is having a rough go of it
2367618, Derek Mason looks absolutely clueless.
Posted by BennyTenStack, Sat Sep-13-14 05:39 PM
I can't believe how bad of a job he's done. I thought he was a good hire at the time.

Today, he played his fourth QB of the year, starting a true freshman and burning his redshirt. He benched him after one series lol. Now his redshirt year has been wasted.

He doesn't know what he's doing and they probably only win three games this year. UK will blow them out.
2367623, RE: Derek Mason looks absolutely clueless.

2367629, The Big Ten is having another bad day
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 06:02 PM
Iowa lost to a winless Iowa State.

Indiana lost to Bowling Green.

Maryland lost an entertaining game to WVU.

Minnesota is getting clobbered by TCU.

Illinois is unable to get out of its own way and is going to lose to UW.

I am not a conference pride cheer leader and none of these teams are expected to compete for the conference title but I was kind of surprised at how bad some of these teams looked while losing. It seems like none of them have made any improvement from last season.
2367652, Michigan was also only up 7 at home in the 3Q
Posted by brown sugar, Sat Sep-13-14 07:52 PM

UCLA gets the ball twice
2367645, Cal did that under Tedford against Washington back in 2007 I believe
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 07:40 PM
2367648, Hell UCLA did that under Neuheisel
Posted by MothershipConnection, Sat Sep-13-14 07:49 PM
Finally we get the bank error in our favor for that one.
2367646, Texas has a chance if Hundley is out for this game
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 07:43 PM
2367650, God I hope he come back
Posted by MothershipConnection, Sat Sep-13-14 07:50 PM
Our playcalling actually looked pretty good to start but our defense has been a bit of a disappointment to start the season IMO.
2367651, Is it his non throwing arm that he appears to have hurt?
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 07:52 PM
2367656, Yep left elbow
Posted by MothershipConnection, Sat Sep-13-14 08:04 PM
We can basically punt any Pac-12 South winning hopes (forget about anything beyond that) if he's out an extended amount of time though I don't think it's anything that'll keep him out long. He might be done for this game though... hopefully we can survive.
2367657, Yeah, the injury didn't look that bad
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 08:08 PM
He probably missed the rest of this game but the injury didn't look season ending.
2367659, Hundley really does make this ucla OL look better than they really are
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 08:10 PM
even then the OL doesn't look great with Hundley back there.
2367660, Dude we are awful up there
Posted by MothershipConnection, Sat Sep-13-14 08:23 PM
Sua Filo covered up a multitude of sins up there last year, both being able to pull and being an actual capable backup LT when our tackles inevitable got hurt. And our defensive front 7 ain't looking much better right now.
2367661, Your defenseive front 7 have been very underwhelming so far this
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 08:25 PM
season. Ellis McCarthy hasn't shown much improvement and Vanderdoes has been invisible.
2367662, McCarthy should have gone to Cal haha
Posted by MothershipConnection, Sat Sep-13-14 08:32 PM
Dude is literally our 4th, maybe 5th best lineman (depending if you count Hollins as a DE or LB). Has some good plays but mostly just slow off the line. Vanderdoes at least gets off blocks even if he's slow off the line. We're totally screwed if Neuheisel has to play extended time though.
2367665, Hahahaha, he should have and despite his lack of success
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 08:40 PM
We could use him for depth because we are super thin at DL. He would probably be a starter or the first DL off the bench.
2367668, I mean he's fine
Posted by MothershipConnection, Sat Sep-13-14 09:10 PM
If you expected your 5 star DL recruits to be the next Kelly Gregg instead of the next Haloti Ngata. Dude is alright, just not quite living up to expectations.
2367672, No doubt and Cal could still use him
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 09:22 PM
We are so thin at DL this season.
2367674, both Ellis and Eddie should have been DUCKS, in fact
Posted by sfMatt, Sat Sep-13-14 09:26 PM
!
2367681, Nope! One of those two should have been at Cal
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 09:38 PM
I can't believe they both ended up at UCLA.
2367670, Muschamp is a dead man walking...nm
Posted by guru0509, Sat Sep-13-14 09:11 PM
2367671, That new look Florida offense looks as bad as the old Florida offense
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 09:21 PM
If he loses this game we might see a mid season firing at Florida.
2367673, Seven win Sark is making an appearance tonight against BC

2367675, ahahahaha perfect after his bullshit last week

2367678, of course, it's only 10 points, and Sark is trying his best
Posted by sfMatt, Sat Sep-13-14 09:34 PM
to emulate you know who
2367682, What do you think of uw and CP so far?
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 09:40 PM
Their first two games were underwhelming but they looked good or at least better today against a shitty Illinois team.
2367683, I honestly haven't seen a minute of them yet
Posted by sfMatt, Sat Sep-13-14 09:42 PM
2367693, David Shaw?

2367800, SC's strength are their WR's....they have huge mismatches w/that group
Posted by 3xKrazy, Sun Sep-14-14 11:34 AM
that was never the case with Oregon
2368142, Only in the most obvious of situations
Posted by Bombastic, Sun Sep-14-14 10:47 PM
Not sure why he didn't see that BC was playing with fire in that night game home atmosphere with the 9/11 tie-in and a D that had to hear all week how bad their run defense was against Pitt seven days prior.

Not sure why they didn't elect to use their big fast wideouts first and work back into the run from there considering SC is at 3rd string there anyway.

They made zero adjustments all game and squandered opportunities to bury them early.

True freshman don't cross country travel well, Sark, how about Nelson Agholar?

Ah well, in the overall scheme it wouldn't be a loss that means all that much if they have a great rest of conference play period then peaking at seasons end with a possible ND, UCLA, Oregon gauntlet.

But games like this make think they've got at least one bad P12 game to lose before that.
2368185, I'm hoping this occurs against Cal this year
Posted by calij81, Mon Sep-15-14 12:01 AM

>
>But games like this make think they've got at least one bad

I'm going to be at the Coliseum for the Cal-SC game if you want to meet up and have some pregame drinks.
2368130, He was worse this week than last, play calling felt way too familiar

2367684, That Texas punter might be the best player on this Longhorn team
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 09:43 PM
Mack Brown had a lot of recruiting misses but he seemed to have recruited a great punter.
2367688, Without question

2367698, Malcolm Brown on defense.

Jordan Hicks is nasty too this year.
2367750, he can go to hell
Posted by guru0509, Sun Sep-14-14 09:52 AM
>Jordan Hicks is nasty too this year.

jk, he is a great LB...wish he stayed in state.

i found this excerpt to be hilarious, in hindsight...

"Ranked as a top-20 recruit by Scout.com and Rivals.com and as the No. 1 high school outside linebacker in the nation, Hicks did say that Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and Texas coach Mack Brown recruited him in a similar fashion.

"They have the same values and they preach a lot of the same things to the team that seem very similar," Hicks said.

The uncertainty around Florida coach Urban Meyer - who initially resigned before the Sugar Bowl but instead will take an undetermined, though likely brief, leave of absence - played a major role in taking the Gators out of the running.

"It affected it a lot," Hicks said. "It showed how much more stable Texas was than Florida, and it had a big effect on my decision."

Ohio State offered that same stability, but in the end, Hicks said it was the little things that turned him toward the Longhorns. He grew especially close to defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, who is the coach-in-waiting at Texas and will take over when Brown retires. Muschamp was offered the head job at Tennessee this month and when he turned that down, Hicks said it showed how loyal Muschamp was to Texas."
2367689, Charlie Strong is going to get grilled if Texas loses this game
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 10:00 PM
He basically gave ucla two extra offensive possessions in this game with the coin flip mess up and then after his team got penalized for running into the punter once, they do it again which extends a ucla offensive possession.
2367692, AAAAAye..... VY Jr...out there gettin it..

2367695, Meanwhile, Kyle Flood just might save his job at Rutgers

2367697, Rutgers runs the B1G?

Posted by abcdmetrius, Sat Sep-13-14 10:26 PM
2367706, That was such a terrible offensive series
Posted by calij81, Sat Sep-13-14 10:30 PM
I still think Charlie Strong will be a good coach and he is kind of hand cuffed with poor talent and recruiting misses from Brown but he had some questionable moments tonight.
2367702, Blatant block in the back on that punt return

2367727, goddamn SC cant deal with BC, we finally start scoring in the red zone

2368125, They had FOUR YARDS before the last drive of the game against a team
Posted by Bombastic, Sun Sep-14-14 10:32 PM
that Pitt gashed for 380 on the ground the week before.

It was one of the most pathetic performances I've ever seen by a Trojan team, it'll get put on the D but they suit 54 players with more on O, BC switched to a jumbo and just started running right at em after SC squandered early chances to be up 24 points or more.

The issue was they couldn't maintain a drive on offense, they seriously didn't put a drive together that lasted more than six plays or more than five minutes of actual time before D was back on the field.

Sark's play calling in this game made Kiffin's look imaginative, they ran on run downs and passed on passing downs. Kept trying to get these little bubble screens rather than get the ball to their outside guys or run uptempo like they did in the Fresno game.

Cody Kessler's numbers look alright but he had no real impact on the game, almost like a Nick Foles for my NFL team.

I would really love to see what Max Browne can do at some point but Sark's gonna say '8 TDs, no picks in three games' so he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

UCLA still looks terrible too btw, look forward to conference play.
2367807, Florida went to triple OT with Kentucky? In FOOTBALL?! Wow.
