2367167, is there a correlation between althetes and ADHD?

"Having a TUE for Adderall isn't uncommon by any stretch. Following last season, MLB revealed that 119 players were allowed to use Adderall."

using 40 man rosters, there are 1280 players. 10% having excuses to use Adderall seems a bit high...

Don't know if this is true but I have heard that players have used Adderall as a masking agent for other drugs. If a test comes back positive, the player can then point to the adderall as an excuse.
2367194, but someone has to provide a rationale for the "legitimate" TUEs

if it is being over prescribed league-wide and the league is looking the other way, especially if adderall is being used as a masking agent then there is a problem.

Maybe the ADHD claims arent more than the public average though.
2367235, I wonder if very rich people can get doctors to write an excuse note

cause that might be helpful in getting a TUE
2367242, that wasnt my point.

my point was that if its widely known that an unusually high number of players are getting these prescriptions, the media should be talking about the holes in TUE system more.
2367243, according to the CDC, 11% of children have been diagnosed w/ ADHD

doesn't have adult stats here. So if it's 10% of MLB, that's about right.

2367252, it may not be an issue then. but NIH had the adult number as low as 4%

2367211, So I guess we will still put him on the playoff roster

But it's worth discussing. If we stick with Davis, I guess Flaherty starts at 3B and only moves to 2B if Schoop is horrible or gets hurt, in which case Kelly Johnson would then start at 3B. That leaves us pretty thin in the infield those first 8 games, if we get that far.

If we leave Davis off, I think we take Jimmy Paredes instead, who will probably be the last to be cut along with Lough. That would shore up the depth and give us more flexibility with Flaherty. But we lose the power if we need it down the line.

But it's a legitimate debate, and the fact that I and others are even broaching that subject at all is evidence of how much Davis's value has been lowered by the increased use of the shift and his own return to normalcy. Machado was definitely a bigger loss. This one is bad news but doesn't feel like a huge blow. All of our pitchers are healthy and that is by far the most important thing down the stretch.

And since this my first post about the Orioles all year, here's where I leave the obligatory note about how awesome it is to even be talking about the Orioles playoff roster and hopes of getting to the ALCS without it being a hypothetical conversation.
