Love that 'chenko wins a title in just his 3rd fight
(after going 1-1 after 2 fights). Incredible story
and yet further indicia that you can defy boxing
convention if you are willing to risk it all and
take advantage of a guy who's never been tested.

Huge step-back for Russell Jr. - whose career
has been ferried along for years no with no
real opponents, and it didn't serve him well.
He looked like he had never been hit before.

2342331, Jim Grey basically called out Garys whole team about his lack of resume

and all the hangers on in the back looked pissed. I thought it was hilarious.

Gettin a belt after goin 1-1 is awesome.

Lomachenko layed hands on him. Predictably, the media took the position that Russell had been protected his entire career and his lack of credible opposition led to his first loss. I'm not so sure, Lomachenko was the bigger, stronger fighter who eventually just imposed his will on Russell. He was very composed. I don't see his advantages changing even if they fought two years from now.

If Lomachenko would have loss they would have said he had no business getting his second title shot in the first place after only having two fights. He proved he was the goods. I'm just saying there were plenty of agendas to throw around regardless of who won.
2342402, That was gully. He straight outboxed him too...that's what's crazy

never heard of the guy before this weekend, but I was really impressed how he totally outclassed Gary Russell Jr. from the start. It was a thorough ass-whoopin. He was fuckin that body up. Can't wait to see his next fight.

I also wasn't to up on how good Gary Russell Jr. was. I saw maybe 3 fights of his and he looked like a promising fighter, but apparently the dude has been coddled a bit. lol. He looked like complete shit.

So who does dude fight next? Such a weird start to a career.
2342574, Such a one sided affair isnt complete without the 114-114 scorecard

2344027, I don't think it was a huge step back for GR jr. at all.

WHAT??? man, jr. showed a tremendous chin and huge heart against a guy who could easily be a p4p elite featherweight. of course it was ridiculously foolhardy to step up and face a guy like Loma with the list of bums (and only bums) on jr.'s resume. plain stupid.
if anything, GRJ's lack of power was exposed, and with those hand problems it looks like his ceiling will be a slightly faster, more athletic Malignaggi... but (like young Paulie) he's got the heart and chin of a champion.

more in a few re: Lomachenko
2344049, That was extremely high level, A class combat right there.

the difference was Lomachenko's (i'll figure out how to spell his name right soon enough)superior power and-- by my amateur, never-been-in-the-ring-before opinion-- some of the best footwork i've ever seen. the dude is a surgeon. can catch u with debilitating head-body/body-head combinations from all angles and with authority!

other than his previous level of opposition, nothing to be ashamed of for GRJ, who is a HELL of a boxer and fighter. he just doesn't have the power or the experience to deal with a master boxer like Loma.

...and nobody talkin bout how that 1 L on his record has a HUGE asterisk next to it. Salido weighed in like 6 pounds over the 126 limit, and with no "rehydration clause" he came in fight night weighing in the 140s. Lomachenko made no complaints or demands at the weigh in. he just wanted to fight, and he fought like a champ and rocked the shit outta Salido several times in the late rounds but couldn't finish him off. Salido had a 10+ pound weight advantage (these' featherweights we talkin about), and didn't even come close to having to drain/dehydrate himself to make weight.

so yeah, i got Lomachenko KOing Donaire and whuppin anybody else at 126. Loma/Rigo (who said he is moving up to '26 after his next fight) would be a superfight!

i BET Nonito stay away from him. and probably Rigo too. i'm off the Flash bandwagon. he don't wannit no more. hasn't trained right for the last couple years now. he's not elite to me no more... but he still got big time power and a decent chin.
