Also mad they kept on interrupting the game for it.
2334521, At home watching the Finals and being PISSED they were interrupted
Posted by Marauder21, Thu Jun-05-14 03:29 PM
When you're in elementary school, "media firestorm trials of the century" don't really resonate as a good reason to interrupt a thing you're watching on TV. At least it wasn't an episode of Batman The Animated Series or anything important like that.

I really liked those Riley Knicks teams that couldn't get past the Bulls, so I was pulling for them that year. Maybe one of the more emotionally invested I've ever been in a Finals.
2334522, 6th grade graduation party
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Jun-05-14 03:35 PM
I remember the night because it was this huge party at a club that was rented for us, pool, bbq all that, and we spent the whole party talking about OJ and watching some tiny TV at the place.

Bunch of 6th graders without a real grasp on what was going on.

For purposes of in case someone asks: My school did 6th grade graduation because it was a really small public school and 7-12 was all one high school.
2334595, man...I was still 2 weeks away from my last day of 5th grade
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Thu Jun-05-14 07:25 PM
Where I lived in PA we got shit on by the snow that winter (similar to this year). My oldest brother and parents got trapped in State College when he was there for States in mid March! I think the mid state was in a state of emergency for almost a week.

Our last day was June 20th. Longest school year ever.
2334601, Was at my neighborhood friend's house. We were both big
Posted by Mignight Maruder, Thu Jun-05-14 07:33 PM
into the NBA. I was always jealous of him bc his parents spoiled him and got him like a dozen plus authentic jerseys - back when they were real pricey for a 10-11 year old. Dude had the entire Charlotte Hornets lineup just for the hell of it (his favorite team was the Magic).

That was my 5th grade year. As I recall, that was a really strange/fascinating year for newsworthy events. You had the Nancy Kerrigan/Tanya Harding fiasco, the Michael Faye caning in Singapore, Kurt Cobain's suicide, etc.. Meatloaf & Aerosmith were somehow amongst the biggest groups at the time. Looking back, it does all seem strange.

2334810, I forgot about Michael Faye
Posted by guru0509, Fri Jun-06-14 12:33 AM
the Michael Faye caning
>in Singapore,

they beat the shit out of that dumb ass didnt they...all the begging from the US fell on deaf ears
2334846, Ha the next year we had our first "dance party"
Posted by Y2Flound, Fri Jun-06-14 07:24 AM
Where we made slow song mix tapes and just hung out at someone's house asking people to dance arms length away all night.

Knowing when the Meatloaf songs were on was clutch because those were the long ones.

2334524, Watching the Finals from the toy room, thinking OJ was innocent
Posted by MothershipConnection, Thu Jun-05-14 03:39 PM
Definitely remember watching basketball with my mom from the play room of my childhood house, and definitely thinking that there was no way OJ did this! He's on those Hertz commercials!
2334529, I was watching basketball too...at a friend's house party.
Posted by Marbles, Thu Jun-05-14 03:47 PM

For some reason, it feels like it was the Knicks playing but I'm not 100%.

When the murders were first reported, I was sure that OJ didn't do it. This "police chase" made me doubt him.

But after following the trial closely, I don't think he did it. I believe he knows more than he'll ever tell but I don't belive he was the knife man.

Ridgeland to be exact, a suburb of Jackson...I was hating every minute of it and hating my parents even more for sending me into exile in that God forsaken city

the chase came on while we were watching the Suns Bulls in the NBA finals IIRC

2334535, It was Knicks Rockets nm.

Them white residents were pissed lmao
2334536, don't remember wherei saw the chase
Posted by Kungset, Thu Jun-05-14 04:08 PM
after the verdict though i do remember making my teacher mad saying OJ was innocent. i didn't really care either way, i was just being contrarian. talking about the glove didn't fit, the racist cops, and why would he leave a bloody glove on the scene anyway?

i kept at it & i remember dude dropping whatever he was doing, taking off his glasses, and raising his voice, "KUNGSET, HE WAS CRYING AND SAYING SORRY DRIVING DOWN THE 405 FREEWAY! COME ON!" lmao.. it got too real for me then and i was just like aw yeah good point
2334540, Screaming at the TV for Pat Riley to take Starks out the game
Posted by Castro, Thu Jun-05-14 04:24 PM
2334541, At a friends house. He was a year younger than me. I was 12.
Posted by Ryan M, Thu Jun-05-14 04:24 PM
We watched the TV for awhile before the chase and he was like, "Dude, he's dead. Let's go skate outside." and we almost did but then that chase started.

He was cynical as fuck for an 11 year old. Probably why he still lives at home 20 years later, no job, no drivers license, no discernible life. The only person worse off these days is OJ.
2334558, I was 8, verdict day I got to play hooky and was hype I got to watch.
Posted by ImPerfectNick, Thu Jun-05-14 05:15 PM
I was getting a hair cut when he was found NOT GUILTY. My precocious lil ass was the only one ridin for the juice lol
2334561, half-ass watching the game...
Posted by jimaveli, Thu Jun-05-14 05:50 PM
I was convinced that Derek Harper was gonna revise his role as Rocket-killer all series long and doom the Rockets since Kenny didn't have the chops to deal with him on D..especially fighting off them hood ass screens from that era of ball. Not to mention I figured the Knicks would get ALL of the calls considering the market, the big-time love for the East, the 'Jordan is gone y'all..what is we 'gon do!?' thing, etc. AND I halfway considered the Rockets doomed after our guards got caught with coke during the 86 season/playoffs/whenever it was...hell...wasn't that Wiggins' daddy? If so...yeah...that.

Then, I saw the Bronco, heard who it was, and thought 'no way...I just saw OJ on the football panel on TV and he was awesome'. Then...ohh...yes way. Then, Johnny started rhyming and shit and OJ 'got away with it'. And then, only my grandma on my mama's side and my pops would even try to claim they thought he was innocent. My grandma feels like if she wasn't there, she doesn't feel right saying she thinks he's guilty.

Shiiiid...I say stuff like 'I'ma pull a OJ and take a stab at it' regularly now. I said it in front of my pops a couple weeks ago and he tried to play that 'I still don't think he did it...he prolly knew about it but I don't straight up think it was him' card.
