As the rule stands, you can't use replay to make up for missed calls. It's getting silly with how the refs refuse to call fouls yet then try to make amends for them on replay (and even that isn't making amends, you take the guaranteed free throws over another play every time)....just call the first foul and you'll avoid the entire situation.

That's a very grey area that wouldn't even need to be broached if referees just called blatant fouls.

Obviously that would be met w/ backlash, but that
would allow them to *really* get it right. Perhaps
a coach gets to throw 2 'flags' per game to review
a play - for whatever reason - be it a question
of possession or whether a foul occurred. Maybe
you can only do this in final 2 minutes of quarters.

It's highly unlikely, obviously - but I think the
point of replay should be to mitigate/neutralize
errors from missed calls.

I'm not for reviewing fouls because that would turn into a mess (and the final 2 minutes are already slow enough with the replay calls, teams are getting so many huddle opportunities, there's no natural flow to the game. The NBA is a sport that involves players having to make quick-decisions and that often times separates the best from the rest, that gets nullified when you have this many stoppages) but I'm undecided on allowing refs to judge whether a missed call changed the OOB call because although it doesn't double penalize a team, it also means that refs can swallow their whistle even more and try to make some amends on replay...when in fact, awarding a team the ball isn't nearly the same as calling a foul and giving that team ft's.

but given your stance on being against reviewing fouls, that
means that you would leave the refs handcuffed to mitigate

the law? I def understand that awarding a team possession
isn't the same as a foul & two free throws (when you're in

Where the foul directly and clearly impacted the player who touched the ball last, and thus the ball is rewarded to that team. The problem with that is that leads to another grey area/interpretation....what is considered direct impact? Something that definitely needs to be addressed. I posed the question on OKP back in 2010 after an incident in game 3 of the finals vs Boston in which a Rondo foul led to the ball being off Kobe...but the ball was still rewarded to the Celtics. They missed the ensuing shot but that possession potentially could have changed a pivotal game in a finals. PJ, in the post-game, said the same thing about how the NBA needs to look at how the replay is viewed but nothing came of it.....as usual, until something ridiculous happens like the OKC call last night, the NBA won't look at it.

The trick to rendering Ray & Bosh ineffective is to make them play D. One of the reasons why the Pacers gave them trouble in the post-season was b/c Lance & West took their legs out by running them ragged.
