2284637, AFC Wild Card: Indianapolis vs. Kansas City Posted by will_5198, Sat Jan-04-14 04:28 PM
Colts have had a history of ending the Chiefs' seasons -- the upset with Harbaugh at Arrowhead is one of my favorite games ever. not expecting another repeat of week 16 here, since I think KC holds onto the ball a lot better, but Colts have been playing better since switching up to more no-huddle and three-wide.

>i can't take anyone calling Alex Smith a bust seriously
he proved very clearly to me that his shortcomings up to that point were more a product of his environment than him. everything else that followed was icing. i've been done with entertaining these idiots. his playoff game v. new orleans and his stretch of football before kaep replaced him were icing at that point. this game too, regardless of how it ends. to me, he proved himself a long time ago. but i'll always root for that guy because he had a shitty situation for awhile and never made himself a distraction or the focus.

So if Kaep does this to the Packers D tomorrow you'll say the same thing right? Kaep didn't ball against no top 10 defenses last year during the playoffs.

lot of love for Andy. I know I was rootin' hard for Andy and the Chiefs. It sucked to see his deficiencies (horrible clock management) on full display like that, but that really has been one of his biggest weaknesses as a coach.
Andy and the Eagles moved on for a myriad of reasons and the separation has been mutually beneficial for both parties. Not sure why you and others feel the need to make up these false narratives. But hey, here's your attention.

2284807, It is crazy... Posted by jimaveli, Sat Jan-04-14 08:40 PM
Dudes were casually going out of bounds with the lead and the ball, dancing way too close to sideline (see Bowe on the final 4th down). And Reid was Madden CPU predicatable after a while...wasting timeouts and all of that. It is like they used all of their misdirection/trickery in the first half and had nothing left for the 2nd half without a back to lean on for 'simple' runs to take the pressure away from the playcalling. I'd blame Alex, but it was more than that.
And the Colts sacked up to keep playing and challenging KC's back end. They moved TY around and had him terrorizing errbody. And of course...Luck made no less than 5 grown man throws. And who knew that Trent Richardson would kill his own career and save Donald Brown's in the process after the trade?
|
2284826, running out of bounds... Posted by CyrenYoung, Sat Jan-04-14 09:13 PM

2284852, ^^there it is Posted by Flash80, Sat Jan-04-14 10:21 PM
lost in the aj jenkins' big first down play was that he ran outta bounds yet KC still burned their second timeout right after... and never bled the clock/stayed in bounds after.
didn't make any sense to match tempo with indy when they were already hot at that point.

2284846, Sure it is ... not solely, but definitely gets blame Posted by Challenger, Sat Jan-04-14 10:03 PM
it's about discipline, aggressiveness and mental lapses ... all driven home by the coach.
1] when your team consistently runs out of bounds instead of keeping the clock alive, w/a lead (coach fault)
2] when you eat timeouts like nachos, w/a lead (coach fault)
3] when you are spotted a 28pt lead to a team NOT favored to win and you lose (coach fault)
Sure, he's likable and has a high football IQ for 3Qtrs but this is not new to Reid ... I know, I am a diehard Eagles fan.
This will NOT be the last time KC experiences this type of heartache ... trust!

2284872, Nah. Posted by PROMO, Sat Jan-04-14 10:45 PM
You're an Eagles fan.
Your opinion on this matter is worthless because it's too tainted. YOu can't separate the Philly Andy Reid from THIS game.
how do I know? because you brought up the timeouts. how was having timeouts going to help KC at the end of the game?
they needed to convert 4th and 11 (which would have given them FG range + 2 mins on the clock had they done it). timeouts were moot. Smith got a bad penalty which put them in a tough spot.
that they had a chance to win losing all the players they lost to injury this game was impressive.

2285156, clutch genetics Posted by will_5198, Sun Jan-05-14 05:19 PM
- questioning Reid's time management is overblown. Kansas City had the ball for 17:36 in the second half -- a rate that would've led the NFL in time of possession. the problem was the Colts were scoring at a ridiculous pace: three TD drives of 80 yards in two minutes or less (and another 41-yard drive in 1:28). even if Kansas City had managed to run off three more minutes, their defense was so bad it wouldn't have mattered.
- battle of the slot receivers. Hilton has gone from a one-trick pony to a legitimate game-breaker, thanks to better route-running and consistency. he was always fast, but it's the rest of his game that makes him dangerous now. KC did a great job isolating Bowe in the slot -- Colts' tried about three different combinations on him and couldn't stop him.
- that was as good as I've seen Alex Smith play. not purely because of the numbers or the accuracy, but the way he moved in the pocket (a shortcoming of his throughout his career).
- Pagano and Pep Hamilton need to ditch the "power running" theme and keep Luck in no-huddle, or at least three-wide. Hilton gets his best release off the line there and without Dwayne Allen, the heavy formations are too limited.
- running a toss sweep with Trent Richardson has to be one of the five lowest-percentage plays in the NFL. that cannot be called in a fucking playoff game ever. not even counting the fact that he threw the football on the ground untouched. Grigson needs to get over the battered spouse syndrome and keep him on the bench until next season.
