2280860, Little Caesars Bowl- at least watch for the best D player in the country
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 06:19 PM
I've been trying to talk about Aaron Donald but nobody would listen all year, the guy put up numbers better than Suh's at DT and threatened the TFL record which is almost unheard of for a DT.

Swept every Defensive award and was unanimous All American.

In case you want a reason to watch this game, there is one.
2280863, he's an impressive player, no question
Posted by DJR, Thu Dec-26-13 06:43 PM
2280864, Pitt's Freshmen on O are really showing up tonight
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 06:45 PM
Connor is running all over the D and Boyd has a few spectacular catches already.

Both trues freshmen who give me some hope going forward.
2280865, Holy shit, Tyler Boyd!
Posted by adam, Thu Dec-26-13 06:54 PM
That diving td non-catch was almost fucking ridiculous
2280867, Dude is a megastar
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 07:00 PM
That punt return for a TD
2280870, RE: Dude is a megastar
Posted by adam, Thu Dec-26-13 07:06 PM
Yep. He's phenomenal. Gonna really love watching him for 2 more years or so
2280873, Over 100 yards in the first half, plus his punt return TD
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 07:21 PM
2280876, As if tonight wasn't about seeing Pitt's future already
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 07:48 PM
Voytik coming in for the 2nd half at QB
2280879, homeboy threw bout like 15 punches on that KO return
Posted by veritas, Thu Dec-26-13 07:57 PM
how's he still playin?

sad thing is as many as he threw, i dunno for sure that he landed any.

this game is a fucking disaster by both teams really.
2280881, This is your typical Pitt game
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 08:01 PM
But yea he should have been ejected, some how it was called offsetting penalties and the TD stood despite happening during the return.
2280884, yea i didn't think it really looked like it was after the play
Posted by veritas, Thu Dec-26-13 08:17 PM
either...

definitely wasn't.

somehow not ejected and a TD? i'd be pissed if i was you.

2280883, Seriously, why is every ball not just being handed to Conner
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 08:10 PM
He is eating BG alive
2280885, 24 is seriously afraid to tackle him. it's kind of funny
Posted by veritas, Thu Dec-26-13 08:17 PM
at times he's basically shadowing him and just like "fuck it, hope somebody else gets him"
2280886, Sucks for Savage his college career ends on an injury like this
Posted by adam, Thu Dec-26-13 08:20 PM
Although, it's kind of a fitting ending for the year for him since dude has taken an absolute beating all season behind this line. Still, sucks to go out on an injury.

Also, pretty bummed Street didn't get to suit up once more for Pitt. He's been a solid receiver at Pitt.
2280888, 1 play that got me excited for the next 3 years right there
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 08:48 PM
2280889, Pretty much
Posted by adam, Thu Dec-26-13 08:51 PM
I stood up off the couch when Voytik unloaded that one. My god, that was great.

And now he runs for a score! VOYTIK!
2280890, Freshman WR and RB may both break Pitt bowl records tonight
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 08:51 PM
Boyd already most receiving yards in a bowl game, Conner not far from most rushing yards, all with a redshirt Freshman QB leading the 2nd half.

This is a nice end to the season and look ahead for Pitt even if we don't wind up winning this game.

Yeah, it's been really fun to watch. It's almost the exact opposite feeling I had while watching every fucking snap of that 3-0 Sun Bowl loss.
2280894, There's the record for Conner
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 09:10 PM
Ugh let's not even talk about that Sun Bowl and the 60 yard field goal for the tie
2280895, RE: There's the record for Conner
Posted by adam, Thu Dec-26-13 09:11 PM
Conner's running like he's trying to hurt the air or something tonight. He's angry and it's awesome.
2280896, That FG was the right call, but damn with nothing on the line go for it
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 09:13 PM
2280897, Holy Hell Connor is playing DE and drawing penalties now
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 09:17 PM
2280898, AARON DONALD
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 09:17 PM
2280899, Conner out there making plays on defense too
Posted by adam, Thu Dec-26-13 09:17 PM
2280901, Can't keep Donald out of the backfield for too long
Posted by adam, Thu Dec-26-13 09:18 PM
And Conner was right there with him. This is fun.
2280902, This was a great game for an unimportant bowl
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 09:23 PM
And it's definitely been years since Pitt has done something on the field to have me this excited for the future.
2280904, Hey, nicely done, Pitt!
Posted by adam, Thu Dec-26-13 09:25 PM
That was a lot more exciting than I was expecting. Kudos to Bowling Green for a fun one.

I don't know the last time I was this excited about the future of Pitt football, but they've got some really good young talent.
2280905, Hail Pitt! Lil FYI Boyd was recruited as a safety and Conner
Posted by JAESCOTT777, Thu Dec-26-13 09:31 PM
Was a 2 star DE
Future looks bright for Pitt
2280908, Boyd was a WR recruit from day 1, where are you hearing that?
Posted by Y2Flound, Thu Dec-26-13 09:45 PM
The big goal was to get him and Robert Foster and have 2 of the best WR recruits in the country. Hell we had Bobby Engram recruiting him

I followed his recruiting very close being local and don't ever remember a day that he was not a WR target.

Connor yea, Chryst has still flirted with the idea of putting him at DE. Also have to remember we expected to have Shell and there wasn't really a need for Connor at RB when he was first being recruited.
2281033, Scout.com but I'll take your word for it I'm just glad
Posted by JAESCOTT777, Fri Dec-27-13 11:36 AM
He's there

2280909, helluva game...glad Pitt got it done in the end
Posted by 3xKrazy, Thu Dec-26-13 09:45 PM
Connor is a fucking monster
2280979, Sorry, I'm not buying he is better than Suh
Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Fri Dec-27-13 08:50 AM
Suh played in a better league and put forth dominant games when the pressure was highest on the biggest stage

that NU offense was 112th in the nation that year

Furthermore, I don't see a huge difference even discounting games played

2280987, Didn't call him better, said he put up better numbers
Posted by Y2Flound, Fri Dec-27-13 09:18 AM
2.21 to 1.46 TFL per game

.83 to .86 sacks per game (virtually even)

More fumbles caused in 2 less games, and identical QB hurries per game

Suh was a top 5 pick, Donald will probably be a 2nd round pick, I'm not saying Donald is better, but the numbers are almost identical, only difference is Pitt vs Nebraska. Donald deserved more Heisman love (not to win it, but to be talked about more) a DT can't be held responsible for a team being 6-6.

If you don't think Donald also captained a bad defense otherwise and is on a team with a bad offense then you just didn't watch Pitt. As far as competition or whatever else, the ACC may not be the best conference of all time this year, but they are still good enough competition that the numbers are very impressive.

*Edit- Even though it wasn't a big game nationally, he blocked an extra point in a 1 point low scoring win at Syracuse that we had to win to make a bowl. That is the stuff great players do no matter how giant the stage.
2281499, Not really
Posted by DeepAztheRoot, Sat Dec-28-13 11:38 PM
I think Donald is a great player but I could cherry pick and say Suh had way more tackles 3 blocked kicks and an INT

Donald doesn't have the once a decade domination that Suh foisted up on #2 Texas in a national benchmark game

Again, I think he is outstanding, I just read the numbers comparison and saying Donald had "better numbers" as Pitt couching him in at Suh's level

I don't see it.

Furthermore 2009 Nebraska's schedule is better than 2013 Pittsburgh IMO and plays a role.
2281034, RE: he didn't say he was better, he's put up better #'s
Posted by JAESCOTT777, Fri Dec-27-13 11:37 AM
2280997, The MAC is taking a beating so far.
Posted by Marbles, Fri Dec-27-13 10:01 AM

Not necessarily a beating. Ohio, BGSU were competitive. N. Illinois kept it close (I didn't watch that one) but Buffalo got smoked.

Connor is a beast. That cat ran all over the Falcons, all night long. BG had nothing going on the ground. I would have liked to see Matt Johnson run it a few times. I think he's gonna be a pretty good QB at BG for a couple of years.

My girl is a BG alum so I had an interest in this one too. She was all decked out and hyped for the game. She was salty as hell last night when we left BW3s.
