Usually it depends on the particular contract. When a fight is made (at this level) - negotiations are had about ppv gate share, overall share, tv network share, both domestic and foreign. Each contract is unique.
Because yea - the fight likely did very good numbers across Asia even if its draw was tepid in the U.S.
I actually think fans need to factor in global drawing power versus just American drawing power, as boxing is as big - and in some cases bigger - in foreign lands as it is here. Example: Klitschkos do huge numbers across Europe, both at gate and in viewer numerics, but do not draw here.
