2225989, Keith Olbermann is NOT funny Posted by bentagain, Sat Sep-07-13 01:26 PM

2225994, ^^^No sense of humor. Posted by Radio Rahim, Sat Sep-07-13 01:32 PM

2225999, I don't get it? He's basically showing the same SC highlights Posted by bentagain, Sat Sep-07-13 01:51 PM
in the same time slot
but instead of a full recap of the day in sports
which you can get on SC
it's Olbermann doing his dry, more intelligent than you humor
which stopped being funny right about the time Dennis Miller was on MNF
ironic his show is on opposite the Daily Show
I was hoping ESPN could introduce a new format to deliver highlights, etc...
but this show sucks
|
2226025, Then just watch the highlights at the time slot before Posted by stattic, Sat Sep-07-13 02:23 PM
and move on. This is such an insignificant issue

2226066, He sucks...it's sad that he gets air time Posted by Wonderl33t, Sat Sep-07-13 05:06 PM

2226079, Good god. You guys have zero attention span. Posted by Orbit_Established, Sat Sep-07-13 05:38 PM
I don't understand y'all sometimes
Its like you have zero attention span
Not everything has to be gut busting funny to be entertaining
His "former sports journalist" take on things is pretty refreshing
Its a dry, sorta cynical take on sports from a guy who has perspectives on a lot of shit, can draw analogies of various kinds. He interviews really well, too, gets different conversations from athletes than normal sports journalists

2226753, I 100% agree. It's not standup comedy. Posted by Pinko_Panther, Sun Sep-08-13 05:13 PM
It's eloquent, insightful, meaningful and delivered in an entertaining way. Media culture has really made it hard for people to appreciate average to excellent commentary.

2226146, i still find him less annoying that dan patrick Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Sat Sep-07-13 08:23 PM

2226155, Best part of comedy: Whether you think it's funny or not, you're right Posted by Y2Flound, Sat Sep-07-13 08:41 PM
There is no evidence or stat that makes it funny or not. You find it funny or you don't. Someone else also does or does not, there is no swaying someone one way or the other in humor.
Seems simple but feels necessary to say
|
2226157, I'd much rather watch his show then Sportscenter, which is just Posted by Bombastic, Sat Sep-07-13 08:46 PM
painful to watch anymore outside of getting scores/highlights if you really need em which u could just get from the internet or ESPN News.

2226215, maybe if that turkey was on fox network it would make sense Posted by mistermaxxx08, Sat Sep-07-13 11:24 PM
i find him way played out and it shows me how desperate and how much ESPN has fallen off. if you were going to bring somebody back, then why not Roy Firestone? up close was cool.

2226233, Fox & Keith Olberman wouldn't make any sense due to them being Posted by Bombastic, Sat Sep-07-13 11:54 PM
diametric opposites politically.
There's a better chance you'll see Sean Hannity on CurrenTV or MSNBC.

2226401, ...and when his show gets cancelled by the end of the month... Posted by bentagain, Sun Sep-08-13 12:27 PM
for you and Y2
does that validate my opinion
|
2226403, Your opinion is valid now Posted by Y2Flound, Sun Sep-08-13 12:29 PM
And so is the opinion of someone who finds it funny.
Have you ever found a movie funny that someone else did not?
Has the other person ever found one funny that you did not?
Neither of you were wrong, humor is subjective, not scientific.

2226426, and most adjectives would be based on my opinion Posted by bentagain, Sun Sep-08-13 12:54 PM
funny entertaining interesting you could argue somebody else disagrees
and post your replies in half the threads on this site, as most are based on an individual's opinion
but what I was alluding to in a previous reply
who exactly is watching this?
out west, he's in the 11PM time slot
against SC and The Daily Show
which I would assume are drawing the entirety of his base
instead of being a hybrid of those formats
i.e., pick a handful of sports headlines, and offer deeper insight
and lengthier segments on a few stories, maybe throw in an interview for additional reference
from what I saw of his show, he's not really offering anything different from SC
other than his brand of humor, and maybe an occasional remark or 30 second story that wouldn't make SC
his show feels like charity
|
2226533, I'm more talking about in terms of emotions, specifically entertainment Posted by Y2Flound, Sun Sep-08-13 02:43 PM
For example, sad is sad. There will always be people who are emotional robots and don't find something sad, but most people can come to agreement when a movie or a scene is sad.
Same can be said for something being exciting, suspenseful, surprising (again all of these can have outliers who either refuse to say it is these things or for some reason don't find it those things, but there is a generally accepted definition of what is sad or exciting in a movie)
Humor does not follow these rules, humor is very individual, there is no universal humor. Nothing that is just generally accepted as funny, it's 100% an individual taste.
Anyway, not really relevant to sports, just whenever people start arguing about if something is funny or not it's one of those things that is extra fruitless because they are both right.
