2221909, so is this the "Grade My Fantasy Team for 2013" post ???
Posted by Tiger Woods, Sun Aug-25-13 09:26 PM
I picked 12th in a 12 man league. Went RB/RB as best I could there, wasn't much left on the board. Non PPR.

I'll probably start with:

Steven Jackson
Maurice Jones Drew
Reggie Wayne
Dwayne Bowe
RGII
Coby Fleener
Zach Sudfeld (sexy pick right)
Seahawks D
Kai Forbath kicker

bench:
Jay Cutler
Pierre Thomas
Stevie Johnson
Vick Ballard
Roy Helu
Golden Tate (cautiously optimistic)

grade mine/post yours

I always have a tough time understanding/gauging 12-team rosters since I'm a career 10-team cat. Picking at the end has to be brutal in terms of the waiting and the quality that leaves between double picks.

PPR?

Looks like you have a risky team that could either turn out great or rough going with a couple injuries/underperformances. SJax SHOULD be able to get the same easy TDs as Turner got + some more catches. And MJD...I'm sold that he's going to end up with a top 5-ish RB season. 1300 yards, 50 catches, 9+ TDs.

I hope like hell that you didn't pass up Forte in a PPR. Maybe it is just me...I think that dude is awesome for where he's going (early 2nd round). I'd rather take him than a few of the 1st round RBs (Richardson, Rice, and Charles for instance). He missed 3 or so games and still solid last year. He won't win you a week but he scores in PPR weekly even without TDs AND with Bush robbing him of a few scores.

I think Sudfeld might be a sexy pick that actually works out. But I swear I have no leanings on what the deal is with Gronk. He could show up in week 2 and be perfectly fine or show up a few weeks before Percy/Crabtree looking crappy.

Can't go wrong with Seahawk D as long as you didn't overpay.

Wayne and Bowe should be a slew of receptions.

Stevie is always getting drafted 2 rounds later than he should. He's an automatic 70-catches, 1k yards, and 5 or 6 TDs a season. That is good flex/insurance/bye-week stuff. It is better than trying to hit a home run and striking out with a Denarius Moore type.

2221913, it's not PPR. I did pass over Forte but got burnt with him last year
Posted by Tiger Woods, Sun Aug-25-13 09:57 PM
he's a never again guy for me.

and I love your optimistic view. My takeaway pretty much mirrors yours. SJax plugged into an offensive juggernaut of an offense and still plenty of fresh legs underneath him, MJD in a contract year, Dwayne Bowe with a competent QB and offensive-minded coach for the first time in his career etc.

>he's a never again guy for me.

Yeah...he's money in PPR. It offsets his low TDs (6 or so is what he's gonna have). He was right around top 10 in total points even with the injuries last year. But I could see him killing someone in a standard league. You need hella yards and/or TDs. He doesn't really do either regularly.

I'm scared about a few guys on your team, but free agency switchouts should bail you out if you strike out on a cat like Vick Ballard. You just have to sack up and admit that it isn't working out and move on someone who might be onto something. Dexter McCluster, whoever is backing up McFadden, Daniel Thomas, the other other RB (Polk) in Philly, Dwyer, somebody!

I'm looking at Golden Tate and thinking he might be that 10-12 round dude who ends up with a 'really!?' season (70-something catches, 7 or more TDs and 1k-ish yards) that you can brag about and say 'yeah...I knew. I let y'all draft your Mike Wallace-types 5 rounds earlier..I was taking RGIII around that time'.

I'm dead-set on taking my QB in rounds 6-8 with 7th being ideal (Kapernick is who I want, but I'd take Stafford, RGIII or The Power of Russell Wilson if I had to) and 8th being a dream depending on how the draft is going and who has cracked and jumped on a QB earlier. Problem: I can't see not taking Drew Brees in the 4th. And that fool MIGHT be there if folks go overboard with the 'I'm waiting cuz I need mo' RBs!' thing.

The only hole is the TE...everywhere else you got great young depth (except back up QB...I don't trust Bradford at all)

Dez/Demaryius/Torrey/TY is a killer corp. Patterson is great insurance (although I'm hearing wonderful things about that rook WR in NE)

Your team:
RGIII's ceiling was probably too high to pass on, but I think Washington will have to limit his chances to get hit this year, which means less rushing. His arm is still great, but I think his ceiling might be lower this year.

Jackson and MJD are great RBs, but that Atlanta line is terrible. And regarding Bowe, I don't know if Smith has the arm strength to get him involved in the vertical game.

My team from 9th position (Arian fell to me) 0.5 PPR

Pickings are slim at Backup QB... I figure I'll handle Romo's bye when I get there... The roster should have taken better shape by then. I wonder what Austin, Miller and Amendola are gonna be like this year. I'm absolutely hoping the Saints will utilize Pierre Thomas... They are wasting his talent IMHO.
2222346, Nice squad
Posted by BabyYoda, Tue Aug-27-13 10:57 AM
Only thing is that I prefer Bilal Powell over Michael Bush and Cris Givens over T. Austin. Other than that, you should fair well in your league and I would be surprised if you didn't go deep into the olayoffs barring injuries and underachievement.
2222359, Thanks man! I have three more this weekend...
Posted by BLACK_ADAM, Tue Aug-27-13 11:19 AM
What do you think Lamar Miller is going to do this year?

I picked Bush up as Forte insurance... I haven't forgotten how the Alouettes lost all those receivers...and while Trestman will go on...I also saw how Keller got done dirty. I'm sure there will be a few players diving at Forte's knees..

I am curious about Tavon... That cat is all hustle and looks poised to break out big... I have Chris Givens on my watch list too... That cat gave my team a huge boost last year from the Flex and this year he's the #1... I agree to an extent with your rationale...but seeing as how this league also rewards return yards... Tavon seems to be the smart money. He's going to get those Randall Cobb looks and slot time. Part of Chris' upside last year were those return yards. The red zone looks seem to be going to Jared Cook (rightfully so)... I hope this experiment pans out...

"Inspectah Deck, he's like...he's like that dude thatta sit back and watch you play yourself and all that right? And see you sit there and know you lyin; and he'll take you to court after that, cuz he the Inspectah."
2222364, No problem, man
Posted by BabyYoda, Tue Aug-27-13 11:29 AM
I think L. Miller can do well if he can hold on to the rock. As for Bush, I understand the handcuff, but he wasn't consistent for me when I had him last year. If we discussing backup RBs, then I prefer Bilal Powell because he has more upside and will see a lot of action being that Chris Ivory has injury issues. To me, Bilal and B. Pierce are top echelon back ups. Honorable mention to L. Dunbar(who also will be the Cowboys return man).

Chris Givens had a solid preseason and I think he will fair better than T. Austin(hopefully dude will be the weapon we know of from his tenure at W. Virginia)

As for your up in comming drafts, I hope you do well. I may throw up a team or two to share, if you care to see em.
2222365, I edited... Definitely addresses the Tavon issue..and..

I couldn't believe it either. I lucked out and picked first.

I literally got home from the office 5 seconds into the draft...

I logged in and was on the clock first.. Picked up All Day and kept it moving... Got Matt with pick 13... Incredible...

I'm tempted to drop someone on my bench though to pick up Terrelle Pryor on some Tim Tebow 9.0 stee.....

I absolutely hate Tony Romo. This is my first year stuck with him... I'm a fan of the Jets, Giants and Bears... My Dallas hate far outstrips my hatred for the Vikes and the Cheeseheads. I actually like Detroit and I respect Tom Brady (...not the Patriots though...)

Man, I LOVE return yrds as well as bonus points in PPR leagues. It makes playing fantasy football more exciting. Shit, I found out that D. Harris isn't running back for Dallas, so I quickly found Jacoby Ford(Josh Cribbs was released), snatched him up and grabbed Lance Dunbar. On the defensive end, Leodis McKelvin is popular along with P.Petterson and Javier Arenas. I think Adam Jones may do punts for Cincy. D. McCourty did krs last year and Boykin from Philly may do some along with D Jax and D. Johnson.

I think KC got D. McCluster doing returns since Arenas is gone and Draughn isn't doing it for them. Then you got R. Cobb, C. Patterson, E. Sanders, D.Martin, G.Tate, L. James, maybe Ace Sanders, T. Ginn Jr., Jacoby Jones, T. Benjamin, M. Thigpen, D.Jackson, D. Johnson, L. Washington, T.Holiday and a host of others getting their run back on. All of my PPR leagues has return yards and bonus points.

The above would sit in the waiver wire, if it was standard scoring. Too boring! I want to score points! Lol

TE-J. Cook(who is a Snickers sleeper and runs a 4.4 40 yrd)
F. Davis

K-M. Bryant

Def-Houston

Both QBs has same bye. May need to offer trade or take the L that week.

>J.Cutler

Rodgers will be in all year except bye and maybe the last game if he makes playoffs, Cutler is ok. But, he is just a filler.

>R.Rice
>D.Wilson
>E.Lacy
>I.Redman

Rice is great. D. Wilson is a part of a committee, but can make plays and also does some returns. Awesome for PPR. Serviceable for standard leagues. Lacy may do well. We shall see. Issac Redman is a part of a deep committee. I would prefer Dwyer until the rookie comes back mid season, but lets see how the Steelers rotate their backs.

>
>V.Cruz
>D.Jackson
>M.Austin
>K.Britt
>J.Blackmon

Cruz is a playmaker. He will burn em like he always do, but has minor injuries, so hope for a full recovery come week 1. D Jackson should be the goto man for Philly plusdo some return work. If he worked on his hands, then he should do alright. Britt is talented, but injury prone and not consistent enough for me to draft, but lets see Blackmon is suspended and does have upside, if his QB can get him the ball.

>
>O.Daniels
>B.Pettigrew

Daniels is a decent TE. I like him. Pettigrew drops too many balls. I hope he worked on his hands this offseason. A filler at best.

>G.Zuerlein
>
Monster foot! Can kick em out the park, but he needs help from his offense. Dude said he fot tired towards the end of last season, hence his inconsistency. He has more weapons this year, so hopefully he will have more opportunities to kick the ball a lil closer this season.

>Cincy D

I like this defense. One of the better ones and should gice you competitive points.

Considering the depth of your league, I think you did well. You should be in the hunt, although I can't say that you have a championship team. You know how football works. Someone will surprise and some will disappoint. Then you have those who will do what you expectthem to do. Good luck!
2222454, ? Wilson gets subbed out on 3rd downs and doesn't catch many passes

Which I why you handcuff A. Brown to him. However, dude can make monster plays and I think led the league in return yards last season which is why I said he is a great PPR back, but serviceable standard back.
2222456, word. thanks for checking it out.
Posted by PROMO, Tue Aug-27-13 04:36 PM
not really the backs i wanted, but in past years i felt like not having a top 3 QB is what kept me from the title, so i went that way in round 2 after taking rice in 1, vs. taking another top-top RB in round 2.

if lacy shows up like people think he can that could be a nice pick.
2222459, Your team is cool
Posted by BabyYoda, Tue Aug-27-13 04:49 PM
As you know, anyone can win their leagues if they stay up on the waiver wire. One back I hope makes his team is Todman out of Jacksonville. He may be that complimentary back to MJD which would be great. I see people jumping on Christine Michael in leagues. K.Hunter is a nice back up to F. Gore. As for Tenn, I prefer N. Washington or K Wright over Britt. Lastly, I am glad you didn't jump on QBs first round like many people. You want bell cows and WR 1 caliber players first. You can win leagues with an E. Manning level QB, if you have bomb RBs and WRs. Good luck man.
2222460, yeah i go hard on the waiver wire...
Posted by PROMO, Tue Aug-27-13 04:53 PM
which is how i stay near the top all season.

just haven't been able to finish first after the playoffs (a couple 2nd place finishes, a few thirds).
2222472, I hear you
Posted by BabyYoda, Tue Aug-27-13 06:33 PM
A lot of it is luck. Some people have players who stay healthy while others get hit with the injury bug. Some people have role players who overachieve whereas others have good players who underachieve. But hey, this may be your year.

I hear people say that Kaepernick will not do as well as he did last year. Vick could have a monster season if he can stay healthy. I like both dudes.

>Vincent Jackson
>Michael Floyd

I like your WR corps. I really hope Tampa move V Jax around. You know he will be bracketed. I say you are fairly strong in this area.

>RB
>Matt Forte
>David Wilson
>Eddie Lacy
>Montee Ball
>Ben Tate

Decent backs. Forte could have a great season. Same with the rest. Decent set of backs.

>TE
>Vernon Davis
>Zach Sudfeld

I see everyone is jumping on Sudfeld. He may or may not pay dividends. Vernon Davis is a mismatch and can potentially give you lots of points. I like this set of TEs.

Overall, you can do well in your league depending who other people have in your league.

>12-team non-PPR league

>Cam Newton

I have him in a few leagues and really hope that he exceed expectations. Besides Steve Smith, the only person I feel comfortable with is G.Olsen which isn't a good look. La Fell and whoever else they got isn't reliable enough for me to feel good, but good thing Cam has the athleticism to make it happen when necessary. You should receive your share of rushing TDs from Cam which equals points.

>Trent Richardson
>BenJarvus
>Mark Ingram
>Jonathan Dwyer
>Daniel Thomas

You have a stable of committee backs, which may be problematic, plus your bell cow tends to get hurt a lot. Out of the lot, I like Dwyer, Bilal and T Rich. Ingram is ok and not I am sold on D. Thomas.

>Dez
>Reggie Wayne
>Jordy Nelson
>Malcolm Floyd
>Santana Moss

Dez may pay great dividends along with Reg and hopefully Jordy can stay healthy to give you some points. Santana is getting a lil long in the tooth and Malcolm Floyd is average with injury issues. I prefer Vincent Brown over him. Honestly, I would patrol the waiver wire and see if you could find someone better than Floyd, but you can keep him for now and see how he performs before the bye weeks start.
>
>Brandon Pettigrew

Eh. Dude has butter fingers. I like Sheffler(not sure how to spell his name) better. Would rather have Fleener or Eifert or some other white under the radar TE over Pettigrew. I guess he will have to do for now.
>
>Seahawks D

They are usually the first defense to be drafted in many leagues. They are one of my favorite defenses.

>Matt Prater

I like him. Should give you projected points and then some.

Your team is in the serviceable with some minor tweaking. As a friendly tip, if you are on yahoo, check out the research tab and make it a habit. They have very useful information regarding player trends and which players/teams are performing well or not. Based on the informatiom provided, you can match your players against their opponents strengths and weaknesses. You may also stumble upon some sleepers which will help you stay competitive.

Brees is a no brainer. Will dowhat he does and give you love. I like your spirit drafting Prior. I really hope the Raiders make him a starter soon. Vick, if healthy, may be useful in some match ups. Other than that, Brees is your man.

>rb's
>McCoy
>Lacy
>Bush
>Moreno
>Bilal

I like Shady, Bush and Bilal. I am sur you will start Bush and Shady most weeks, but may throw in Lacy, Bilal and Moreno in against teams with weak run defenses. Cool lil stable of backs.

>wr's
>Decker
>DeSean
>Boldin
>Givens

I lime them all, especially Givens. Decker is nice and should cover his projections. D Jax better ball this year. No excuses from him. He has no competition and supposed to play a lil special teams. Bolden is a solid wideout who can give you some points, although I would not rely on him every week. I say mix and match your WRs each week depending on their match ups.

>te's
>Graham
>Sudfeld

Graham is the best TE out! He should do his thing and give you a lot of points. He has the QB to do it. Sudfeld is a decent back up for you. I like this tandem.

>
>k
>Zuerlein

Like I told someone else, he has a strong foot, but the Rams over extended him last year. He needs help from the offense to help him get a lil closer to the goalpost. Hopefully PATS. But, he is one of the few who can kick 50+ yards when called upon. Hopefully, you will get some of those points this year.

>d/st
>Rams
>
I have noticed that they are ranked kind of high. I guess it is because their defense is actually good. A lot of young talent and a defensive minded coach. May be that sleeper defense this year.

Overall, I think you have a shot at winning a fairnshare of matches. Too early to say how well you will do in your league, but I don't see you in last place, should your players play up to their potential/skill set.

4-point passing TD. 1 point for 20 yards receiving. 1 point for 30-yards passing. No bonuses. -1 for bad stuff.

QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, RB/WR, WR/TE, DEF, K

I picked 5th. I traded my first and second round picks with the guy picking 10th (5 and 16 for 10 and 11). The plan: take whatever RB fell to me and MATT FUCKING FORTE. Instead, 9 cats took RBs, Foster and Rice went in top 5 AND the guy picking 9th took Forte. So...

1. Reggie Bush (I think he catches a slew of passes)
2. Dez Bryant (I took him over Calvin...schedule + Tony Tunnel Vision)
3. MJD (glad he fell..I believe)
4. Victor Cruz (WRs were flying off)
5. Cam Newton (easy schedule in spots + rushing)
6. D'Lo Williams
7. Gronk (I was sick of looking at him by then)
8. Finley (see pick 7)
9. Matt Stafford (he owes me points from last year AND a guy was p-footing on taking his QB...had to make him pay)
10. Fred Jackson (I know he's old but still..at this round, why not)
11. Greg Jennings (see comment for pick 10)
12. Golden Tate (just in-case he's fake Percy)
13. Roy Helu (just in-case Morris gets hurt or misses a block and ticks off Shanny)
14. New England DEF
15. Josh Gordon
16. Randy Bullock
17. Joique Bell (Reggie Bush is Reggie Bush)
