Detroit Pistons trading Brandon Knight to Milwaukee Bucks for Brandon Jennings

The Detroit Pistons apparently aren’t done dealing.

Two people with knowledge of the situation told the Free Press the Pistons are finalizing a sign-and-trade agreement with the Milwaukee Bucks that would send point guard Brandon Jennings to Detroit. The deal would be three years at approximately $24 million.

In return, the Pistons will send point guard Brandon Knight, center Slava Kravtsov and forward Khris Middleton to the Bucks.

ESPN’s Marc Stein and Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski originally broke the story.

Jennings, 23, averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 assists and 3.1 rebounds for the Bucks last season. He has played there since being drafted 10th overall in the 2009 NBA draft.

He would presumably fill the Pistons’ need for a scoring guard, though he shot 39.9 percent from the field last season and is a career 39.4-percent shooter.

Knight, drafted 8th overall by the Pistons in 2011, averaged 13.3 points and 4.0 assists in his second season with the Pistons. He shot 40.7 percent from the floor.
2214643, DET tanking before the season even starts

2214653, lmao...jennings is an upgrade tho.

Kinda makes it even funnier.

Det. Should take the 7th or 8 seed.
2214657, Yeah, I'd be stunned if that's not a playoff team.
Posted by Frank Longo, Tue Jul-30-13 06:32 PM
Jennings, KCP, Smith, Monroe, Drummond, with Stuckey and Singler off the bench?

Yeah. Me likey.
2214684, Don't forget Chauncey. Could be an important veteran
Posted by soulfunk, Tue Jul-30-13 08:21 PM
presence on that team.
2214940, oh please, Chauncey has been a zero as a player for a long ass time now
Posted by Bombastic, Wed Jul-31-13 01:18 PM
his mythological 'clutch shot' metrics hold up worse than Kobe's too over the past decade.

Chauncey was the 'veteran leader' stealing minutes from better players on the Clippers because of a dumb-ass coach while getting beat in the first round last year.

He might as well join a coaching staff at this point like Sheed, from a player perspective it's about as important as the return of Lunchpail Diva pre-retirement a few years back.
2214948, Yeah, his only real value is "locker room presence" et al.
Posted by Frank Longo, Wed Jul-31-13 01:31 PM
I strongly doubt he's able to do anything of real worth on the court next season.
2215047, think u went a touch too far here lol
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed Jul-31-13 04:23 PM
He was a 17ppg 19PER guy in '11 and was only a little off that pace in '12 before he got hurt

Now if you want to say his body is done then I dont know enough to argue

But when hes been healthy he produced
2215430, dude, goin back to the Knicks he's like a 38% shooter over three seasons
Posted by Bombastic, Thu Aug-01-13 05:24 PM
Which is tough since he can't really do anything *but* shoot from the perimeter or walk the ball up the court & be a 'leader'.

He certainly ain't guarding anybody or getting by anybody.

And his shooting metrics actually drop the more crucial the situation for 'Mr Big Shot' in recent years.

Since the Knicks he's been amnestyied, came to LA, tore his Achilles', came back this season as a late-year-distraction pulling minutes from Bledsoe & even Willie Green (who was better this season).

Meanwhile all that 'leadership' couldn't help him mend the riffs between CP3 & Blake/DJ or allow Chauncey to be humble/selfless/'team first' enough to tell Vinnie's dumb ass 'Coach, I'm shooting 30% in this series while turning the ball over more than getting assists & I'm a turnstile on the other end....TAKE ME OUT because I'm getting us beat & you fired'.

2215078, He'll make a bigger impact on the team than Stuckey.
Posted by soulfunk, Wed Jul-31-13 05:47 PM
And comparing him to Ben coming back isn't fair at all...Chauncey has been productive within the last couple years when reasonably healthy. Ben was DONE.
2215432, Nah, he won't. Stuckey's better at this point. Chauncey is finito
Posted by Bombastic, Thu Aug-01-13 05:27 PM

2214659, He will lead them to the playoffs. And we know he's good in the offs btw
Posted by theeraser, Tue Jul-30-13 06:35 PM
2214669, Good deal for both sides. BJ needed a fresh start.
Posted by Cold Truth, Tue Jul-30-13 07:15 PM
Kinda sucks for Mayo, or perhaps not. Him essentially being the lone gunman up there in and of itself could be interesting this season.

Jennings+Josh+Drummond could make for some interesting hoop in the D, and I for one will tune in. I hope BJ can get some traction up there.
2214672, folks sleeping on Greg Monroe
Posted by laizquierda, Tue Jul-30-13 07:28 PM
16 & 9 last year. cmon.

he'll definitely be a bigger factor than Jennings. Josh Smith is the
only one who might have a bigger impact. Drummond is exciting but
still raw and will be inconsistent offensively

2214674, wow....decent deal for both....Detroit's got some young talent
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Tue Jul-30-13 07:35 PM
2214681, no losers in this one
Posted by southphillyman, Tue Jul-30-13 07:53 PM
bucks got rid of a player they didn't want and didn't take back too much junk in return while still getting some potential value with BK
jennings gets away from a shit organization and a fresh start with a young nucleus
pistons upgrade and don't overpay with the potential of jennings not being ass there
2214685, Jennings is the loser
Posted by cantball, Tue Jul-30-13 08:24 PM

2214772, Yeah...it's starting to be obvious that his hands were tied
Posted by soulfunk, Wed Jul-31-13 05:49 AM
for a couple years when Bill Davidson died, and then the team was up for sale, and then having the new owner. And it must have been a known fact to the new ownership and that's why they let him stay on.

He really effed up with the free agency signings of Gordon and Charlie. He had made mistakes like that in the past but was always quick to recognize and fix it. He's just now getting the chance to fix some of that stuff...
2214742, Whats the deal with this post?

2214775, CAN THE FUCKING SCHEDULE COME OUT PLEASE
Posted by Ceej, Wed Jul-31-13 06:14 AM
2214806, Why is it such an issue this year?
Posted by ErnestLee, Wed Jul-31-13 09:06 AM
Dont they usually just, ya know, release it?

Edit: Just found this.

There is no scheduled time of release for the 2013-2014 season schedule as of yet. Originally, the schedule was supposed to be released on July 26th, but it was delayed. It was then speculated that the schedule would be released on Tuesday, July 30th, but NBA TV currently has a special show scheduled on the evening of August 6th for the release of the schedule. Therefore, it seems that August 6th is very likely to be the day the schedule is released.

Really? A "special"? Wtf?
2214810, they gotta give NBA TV something to do.
Posted by pretentious username, Wed Jul-31-13 09:26 AM
Draft is over. Summer league is over.
2214813, I'm burning my NBA tv jersey that night
Posted by Ceej, Wed Jul-31-13 09:31 AM
2214788, Det. is an interesting squad
Posted by rjc27, Wed Jul-31-13 07:52 AM
They obviously are not title contenders but I don't think a team in the league will wanna bang with the Drummond and Munroe in the playoffs... good way to get worn down for the later rounds

2214814, That frontcourt won't work together.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jul-31-13 09:37 AM
It's gonna be a mess.

Mo Cheeks isn't a good coach either.

Hopefully with Jennings, Stuckey can focus on just attacking.
2214815, Based on what?
Posted by ErnestLee, Wed Jul-31-13 09:39 AM
>It's gonna be a mess.
>

2214819, I like Josh Smith a lot, but not at small forward.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jul-31-13 09:47 AM
There's gonna be so much clutter. Poor spacing with Drummond in the middle. Greg in the low or high post. And Josh Smith either chucking up long jumpers or trying to slash. Then you have Stuckey trying to slash. And Jennings pulling up for Jason Williams type 3's.
2214834, Meh: This "spacing" thing is being overused
Posted by ErnestLee, Wed Jul-31-13 10:47 AM
Smith/Monroe/Drummond wont be playing 48 minutes a game together. There's no guarantee they play even 20 together. Singler, KCP, Gigi and even Charlie V all have range and can spread the floor.

We can over analyze all we want. Fact is, the Pistons have made tremendous upgrades this year and appear to be building towards something. I dont see the problem.
2214836, spacing will be an issue...yes pistons greatly improved
Posted by Cenario, Wed Jul-31-13 10:52 AM
the spacing issue is a great problem to have considering where they have been the last few years and the fact that they should be amazing on defense.
2214839, That's why I said "together"
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jul-31-13 10:54 AM
2214817, hopefully with KCP the Pistons can get stuckey gone
Posted by cgonz00cc, Wed Jul-31-13 09:46 AM
2214822, their defense will make up for the offensive spacing issues
Posted by Cenario, Wed Jul-31-13 09:58 AM
they are better than most frontcourts.
2214824, Maybe, but a good 3 will make Josh look like he's standing still
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jul-31-13 10:07 AM
And that's anybody from Pierce, Deng to Bron, KD, George.
2214838, so you're arguing that smoove will be as good at guarding 3's
Posted by Cenario, Wed Jul-31-13 10:53 AM
as most 3's in the league are?
2214842, No, I'm arguing most 3's will walk right past Josh Smith like he's not there.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jul-31-13 10:57 AM
And that's not even talking about how most guards will be walking past Jennings and Stuckey.

Smith and Drummond can only clean up so much.

And Monroe doesn't play much d either.
2214843, interesting..i think they'll be great on defense.
Posted by Cenario, Wed Jul-31-13 10:58 AM
2214850, Will the Pistons be better than they were last year?
Posted by ErnestLee, Wed Jul-31-13 11:10 AM
2214854, I think so. They have more talent now and Drummond developing.
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jul-31-13 11:19 AM
2214844, Right...the best 3's in the league will be tough to defend regardless.
Posted by soulfunk, Wed Jul-31-13 11:00 AM
2214856, That's cool. But you can't say, we'll have a top defense...
Posted by TheRealBillyOcean, Wed Jul-31-13 11:24 AM
but can't guard more than half of the 3's in the league.
2215003, I don't think it will be a top defense. But it will be a good defense.
Posted by soulfunk, Wed Jul-31-13 03:13 PM
And a good defense combined with an okay offense is 10,000% better than what we've seen in Detroit over the last few years.
2214858, this is where i'm at
Posted by southphillyman, Wed Jul-31-13 11:29 AM
not really expecting anything meaningful from this core
but they went from a team i gave a fuck less about last yr
to a team i'd watch play another good team on league pass or whatever

bulls need to holler at mirotic next offseason and make that happen.
2215332, Knight >>> Jennings
Posted by icecold21, Thu Aug-01-13 12:49 PM
BJ really needs to learn how to pick his shots and focus more on setting up other players if he's going to succeed in Detroit. I don't have a lot of confidence in him. BK has way more upside right now. IMO the Bucks got the better of this deal.
