By that I mean one team in one season having the best draft of all time. There are a lot of options but one that sticks out to me is the Cavs' 1986 draft.

They trade Roy Hinson for the No. 1 pick and get a 20/10 center in Brad Daugherty. Their own selection gets them an outstanding, athletic, two-way guard in Ron Harper. They make a junk deal with Dallas and get another All-Star for nothing with Mark Price in the second round. Meanwhile, they had another steal in waiting from the '85 draft, Hot Rod Williams, that didn't play until '86 because of his point shaving trial.

The Celtics got Jones, Russell and Heinsohn in the same draft. They gave up a lot to get Russell (obviously it worked out) and Heinsohn was a territorial pick, that's kind of hard to compare. But obviously they made out very well, probably the best of any team in any one year in terms of both talent and contribution to team success.

Oddly the 2003 draft turned out pretty awesome for Miami, they just didn't know the full extent of it until several seasons later.

i thought hibbert would clearly be better than thabeet, but that is a low bar. those three panning out and even the leonard trade, eh, they had enough athletic wing guys and they knew it.

i mean it was really the 15th pick for hill, which is better than saying they traded kawhi for hill.

Weather it was done with the trade in mind or for SA I'm not sure... I do remember having a couple exchanges about how excited I was to have KL before the trade went down

just assumed it was made with the trade already in place. maybe not
