2182342, Explain to me, unemotionally why Mayweather/Khan is a bad fight
Posted by AnonymousCoward, Fri May-17-13 09:16 AM
This may be the fight we get, and I for one think it's a good matchup. Khan is lightening quick and has pop. He made Zab Judah look worse tan he's ever looked. He BEAT Lamont Peterson. Go back and watch that fight. It was a razor thin decision where Khan had two points deducted for PUSHING and THEN there was some scorecard fuckery.

Sure, he's chinny, but he's only been KO'd twice, but hat's one time fewer than Manny has. And modern-day Floyd isn't exactly a knockout artist.
2182347, cause he got ko'd twice BAD like nite nite aint that why yall say
Posted by JAESCOTT777, Fri May-17-13 09:33 AM
Pac dont deserve floyd?

furthermore he is NOT the best fight available

yall cats are hillarious

Posted by southphillyman, Fri May-17-13 09:46 AM
I'm just glad one of yall finally named a fighter
not even going to address why that would be a joke of a fight, smh

SIKE yes i am bwhahahahahah
never fought at 140 - check
has no drawing power, routinely fighting in front of half empty arenas in the US - check
looked horrible in his last fight getting dropped and wobbled badly multiple times - check
and most importantly .......NO ONE WANTS THE SHIT
there was no buzz for this fight
shit there was NO buzz for khan to fight any 140lbers lmao
i mean damn dude got knocked the fuck out by a slow motion Danny Garcia counter hook
his career is on LIFE SUPPORT right now
that's why his ass was in england getting wobbled every 3rd punch by a no name his last fight
ppl didn't even know dude had a fight coming up , shit wasn't televised or nothing
DAMN

2182361, Danny Garcia knocked him out
Posted by Ceej, Fri May-17-13 09:57 AM
Shitty ass Danny GArcia....thats why.
2182362, World Champion, big puncher, Danny Garcia?
Posted by AnonymousCoward, Fri May-17-13 10:01 AM
He might not be Medgoen Singsurat or Rustico Torrecampo, but he's no slouch either.

2182363, Khan isn't good enough.
Posted by veritas, Fri May-17-13 10:04 AM
2182365, It seems better than Guerrero
Posted by Lightfoot, Fri May-17-13 10:04 AM
And a lot better than Garcia or Alexander. Not that Khan would be more deserving or has done more to "earn" it than those three guys (especially Garcia, for obvious reasons), but I think stylistically it would be more interesting. Your points make sense to me.

I'm not sure I'd necessarily choose it over whoever comes out of the Peterson-Matthysse fight this weekend, but maybe. And other than that, yeah I guess I'd prefer Khan over anyone else at 140 or 147 that isn't with Top Rank. From 154 I'd obviously prefer Canelo, and also Trout (not realistic), but not really anyone else there either.

And from the "event" standpoint, which isn't entirely irrelevant, it would be really entertaining to see that fight in Britain.
2182367, This was the fight I wanted to see before Khan screwed it up
Posted by Kungset, Fri May-17-13 10:08 AM
He's looked terrible lately

I liked the matchup because it gave Floyd the chance to knock someone the fuck out, which he hasn't done much of lately. it would be interesting to see Floyd have to be the aggressor for the whole fight, and Khan is fun to watch before he gets wobbled by something stupid

Plus I would like to see Floyd against someone active and someone who could plausibly outpoint him
2182370, ^^^fair and balanced^^^
Posted by AnonymousCoward, Fri May-17-13 10:15 AM
2182371, Yup and Khan messed up his marketability
Posted by zigbfree, Fri May-17-13 10:20 AM
Floyd fights for big paychecks and expects people to drop $70 to see him fight. Probably a good chunk of people paying to see him are rooting for him to lose. No one now believes that Khan has a real chance of beating Floyd. I dont know if Khan could beat Guerrero.

But before his last two fights, they definitely could have sold Khan as the next best international fighter who could possibly take Floyd down.
2182373, cmon dude

2182378, to be clear i'm not really interested fight at this point in Khan's career
Posted by Kungset, Fri May-17-13 10:28 AM
just saying, khan outpointing floyd off activity was within the realm of possibilities. unlike guerrero where you knew this dude had absolutely NO shot in the universe.
2182368, At what weight?
Posted by B9, Fri May-17-13 10:10 AM
I don't think Khan can get up to 147 and be near the same fighter and why the hell would Floyd go all the way down to 140 at this stage in his career just to beat the shit out of Khan?
2182379, Cause Khan is B-level and Floyd is A-level...
Posted by BlassFemur, Fri May-17-13 10:29 AM
and the first time Floyd taps that chin, it's a wrap.
2182380, there are better fights out there for Floyd..Khan is getting close to
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Fri May-17-13 10:30 AM
being a shot fighter...

it's just not a pay per view worthy fight when Floyd could be fighting Manny or any number of other fighters who pose an actual challenge..

plus Khan has lost 2 of his last 4 fights...

the fight fits floyd's criteria for an oppoenent but it's not a fight that should even be discussed when there are so many other fights out there for him.
2182389, Surely you see the hypocracy here?

Since Manny lost two of his last TWO fights, including being KTFO by a man Floyd demolished. I agree that there are better fights to be made, but there are also FAR worse fights that could be made.
2182402, don't bring up that travesty of a decision to Bradley
Posted by T Reynolds, Fri May-17-13 10:49 AM
my man who boxes (bigtime Flomosexual) posts on FB how the more times he watches the fight the more he gives the fight to Bradley

you have to really really earnestly TRY FIRST to view Bradley as the winner to even begin to give him the split decision
2182404, I'm just trying to stir the pot
Posted by AnonymousCoward, Fri May-17-13 10:52 AM
I'm giving him back-to-back losses because they'r eon his record, and I'm mad he got the decision in Marquez III.

shits comedy
that's the risk manny took tho
fighting twice a yr, fighting dudes 15-20lbs heavier (clottey, marg), fighting undefeated dudes in their prime (bradley), fighting rivals (jmm)
much easier to catch a L like that as opposed to fighting once a year against hand picked former lightweights/jr ww like guerrero and ortiz and washed up ass dudes like cotto

Khan isn't anywhere near Floyd's level though.

Mayweather will line up one more big fight, and then ride off into the sunset undefeated...

I really wish Manny had knocked Marquez out in a decisive manner because I think that fight would have eventually materialized if Manny's brand hadn't taken that hit...
2182483, What's even funnier is how Freddie Roach would say how...

i know that you know
this is a terrible fight

2182562, My whole argument is this:
Posted by BLACK_ADAM, Fri May-17-13 04:37 PM
***The entire fight game is about exposure, allegiances, showcasing your talent, building a ledger and most importantly...risk vs. reward... No successful prizefighter willfully neglects any aspect of the aforementioned

***Folks should also consider that despite some fighters' ability to make fighting look easy it is not. There is pain involved in all phases of the fight game win or lose. Many don't appreciate all that is considered to make a fight happen especially the physical toll on the guys we scream for to spill their blood...

***Weight matters. That isn't even a discussion and it's asinine for the vast majority of folks who've *NEVER* laced up the gloves and actually tried to *BEAT* an opponent in an actual contest (not spar...not "get some work in"...not go a round or two..etc..)..to say that weight is not a factor. I want those same assholes to allow a physically bigger, heavier opponent to land some shots on them for 10+ rounds and see if they think weight doesn't matter. They absolutely won't do it for free and their price threshold to allow for that level of punishment is far lower than the pros we argue about frequently. Cats don't have an accurate perspective

That said, I understand folks wanting Mayweather to travel outside of his comfort zone to make a superfight but they also understand he does not have to. No fighter really does....particularly the champion...

Far too many casual fans and observers eschew the rankings and mandatories a champion fighter has lined up and dismissively deem those fighters as insufficient and it's sad. According to them it is far easier for a "name" to skip right over the rankings instead of fighters earning their chances. Matter of fact, they prefer it.

Don't get me wrong "step aside" money has made for some exciting fights but it is disrespectful overall to the guys that have toiled long years for their shot at the crown.

I'm not particularly interested in an Amir Khan fight unless he can show me that he can reclaim the form he had prior to his KO losses. Despite his missteps, it appears he's at least trying to do something about it. Too bad he was hyped up too early but suffering is part of his road back. He's a competent boxer with excellent hand speed and length. he's chinny though. I wonder if he's still to light for his frame. What I'm interested in is the best possible fight happening with *ALL* things considered...

Sometimes the champ is just that good. Most times a fighter isn't appreciated until he seen struggling, hurt, vulnerable or overcome by adversity.

Most people don't willingly walk into that.

...and that doesn't make them a coward in this sport. In my opinion it takes a *LOT* to find a coward in this sport
