2177714, Masai Ujiri wins Exec of the Year... for last year?
Posted by SoulHonky, Thu May-09-13 12:58 AM
The NBA seems to love that the Nuggets won a lot of regular season ball-games without having a true superstar but what exactly did Ujiri do this season to win the award?

His moves:
He re-signed Javale, who he acquired last season, for big bucks. Javale then proceeded to lose the starting position to Kostas Koufos.

He acquired Iggy, who didn't exactly mesh all that well.

He signed Anthony Randolph, Anthony Carter and Ben Uzoh. Re-signed Andre Miller (who he acquired last year)

Drafted Evan Fournier, Quincy Miller, and Izzet Turkyilmaz

2177730, If it wasn't for Lin, Daryl Morey would have won it

2177743, he's a great GM.

but in terms of actual moves, it's obviously morey with an ancillary thumbs up for rob hennigan (orlando's haul in the howard trade appears much better than when it was made, tobias harris was a steal and nicholson was pretty decent).
2177840, True on Hennigan but they won't reward tanking

He did better than anyone thought in the Dwight trade, Nicholson and Harkless were good picks were they got them, the Harris for an exiting Redick deal was great. And he got his team in line for the #1 pick.

I also wonder if they didn't want to reward loaded contracts like Asik and Lin got.
2177843, is it sports-writers voting?

i agree that someone shouldn't win the award if the team still sucks -- but thought he deserved credit for ending up in a decent position despite being put in a box by dwight's departure.

2177850, no i believe its peer

or peer/coaches
2177859, Yeah, "colleagues and front office peers"

You know Morey probably lost votes from Chicago and New York because of those contracts and Toronto and Washington probably were like, "That Harden deal wasn't THAT great." (since they both turned Harden down.) And then all of the GMs who hate stat geekery aren't going to vote for him.

Masai did a great job building that team and didn't really tick anyone off while doing it.
2177748, lol @ nuggets geting both.
