2139762, The sky is blue. Water is wet. Bynum's knees are fucked.
Posted by Frank Longo, Fri Mar-01-13 01:39 PM
Bynum had returned to practice... and something else returned too. His knee swelling. He keeps insisting he'll play at some point during this season... but that is looking highly unlikely.

Add to that recent speculation-- I won't call it a report, since it came from Skip Bayless's sources-- that the latest MRI revealed degeneration in Bynum's knee. If this is true, he may be able to come back in spurts, but he'd never be able to sustain.

Sucks to be Socks. A shitty situation for everyone involved, including the young man.

2139763, Sigh. I feel for this kid. I really do.

BUT MITCH IS A GENIUS!
2139767, not mad.
Posted by bshelly, Fri Mar-01-13 01:55 PM
but sign him to a long-term deal?

I'll be mad.
2139770, SOMEONE is going to, you know that right?
Posted by Ryan M, Fri Mar-01-13 02:01 PM
That's what the sad thing is.

He literally doesn't care about basketball, and someone's gonna throw him 80 mil.
2139774, yup, and that's whatever. just not us.
Posted by bshelly, Fri Mar-01-13 02:05 PM
2139772, he'll get a contract from somebody, I just pray it's not the 6ers
Posted by bentagain, Fri Mar-01-13 02:02 PM
they made the right decision to move on from Iggy

but Bynum isn't the way to go (if his knee condition is indeed true)

they'll probably find a doctor that can give him a bill of health

to convince some franchise he's worth the risk

please don't be the 6ers though
2139769, i doubt he cares if he plays ball again
Posted by falafel stand pimpin, Fri Mar-01-13 01:59 PM
probably playing with RC cars right now
2139899, that nigga is definitely on xbox live as we speak
Posted by LBs Finest, Fri Mar-01-13 06:06 PM
.
2139776, Damn, such a shame
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Mar-01-13 02:06 PM
I'm hoping he gets back on the court at some point next season
2139780, Is it? Is the world a worse place without AB playing ball?
Posted by Jayson Willyams, Fri Mar-01-13 02:10 PM
2139788, Yeh. Dude is very very skilled
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Mar-01-13 02:19 PM
Hate to see anyone lose their future due to injuries, but I guess you're ok with it.
2139793, I don't know him, obviously.
Posted by Jayson Willyams, Fri Mar-01-13 02:23 PM
But the generally accepted tone, as you can see in this post, is that he doesn't care about playing basketball. If that's the truth, then what have we lost? Someone who doesn't give a shit and will cripple whatever franchise he's signed to?

If he DOESN'T care about basketball, I guess you could say that's a shame in and of itself.
2139798, He might not care as much as others but is still trying to play
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Mar-01-13 02:31 PM
I've seen him battle through two knee injuries while in the playoffs so this dude definitely has some will to play the game. He has many other interests and basketball isn't his passion, but he's still trying to get back...and his knees aren't going to allow it.

And the general sentiment in here from people who saw actually him play (ie Laker fans) is sadness.
2139800, No argument there. n/m

>And the general sentiment in here from people who saw actually

2139778, damn the Lakers made out but the sixers are FUCKED
Posted by JAESCOTT777, Fri Mar-01-13 02:07 PM
i feel bad for Da Damaja
2139781, actually if they let Bynum walk + Bag of Dildos contract coming off
Posted by bentagain, Fri Mar-01-13 02:12 PM
they should be able to get some players to improve with all that cap space

+ a lottery pick

we'll be alright

this season was just a complete waste is all

compared to the LAL that are $35 million over today and aren't in a playoff seed

and have an $85 million penalty next year with the same roster

but I can't really get excited about $s instead of Ws

...waiting for the offseason
2139789, basically...
Posted by FromTheGo, Fri Mar-01-13 02:19 PM
LA didn't win...

If LA had stood their ground, they would have still sucked and had Bynum's contract coming off anyway and not wasted money on Nash and go into this off-season with a chance to improve with better moves than they have available now.

Philly and Orlando both won long term. Cleaning out bad contracts is just as vital.

2139790, LA and Philly make the trade 100 out of 100 times.
Posted by Ryan M, Fri Mar-01-13 02:20 PM
No question.
2139802, I am not saying the Lakers are dumb for making the trade
Posted by FromTheGo, Fri Mar-01-13 02:38 PM
It's just that there is no real situation where the Lakers really WON more than Philly.

They banked on a chance to get Dwight and hoped initially that he would sign an extension with the trade when LA first was considered, just like other teams who wanted him to sign an extension and not just end up in the situation he is now in LA.

I am sure the Lakers knew Bynums knees were shot and had him playing on it instead of letting him recoup and Philly killed two birds with one stone. They got rid of Iggy without the horrible PR because they brought in the arguable 2nd best C in the game even if for one season.

Hell there is chance that Philly could still make a pitch a Dwight and then look like evil masterminds, which I would root for because Dwight should come back East and bring more competition for my Bulls.

2139783, how is Philly fucked?
Posted by FromTheGo, Fri Mar-01-13 02:15 PM
They have goo gobs of money available and Bynum is a FA.

Their core is Hawes, Thad, Turner, Jrue and Richardson has a year or 2 left. And they have Lavoy Allen who is decent.

They should have enough to go after Dwight or and Al Jefferson/Milsap and still get a decent 2 to have Jrichardson play a 6th man role until he is moved or contract expires

They aren't that bad. They just better not resign Bynum.

2139786, Yeah, we said it over the summer but...
Posted by Ryan M, Fri Mar-01-13 02:18 PM
Even if Bynum never plays a minute, they got out of Iggy's contract and they have a young squad. It's fine.
2139795, that core aint doing shit.
Posted by BrooklynWHAT, Fri Mar-01-13 02:24 PM
its good enough to be like 4th in the east at best but thats basically worthless as long as the heatles are around and rose comes back healthy.

philly aint getting any top tier FAs either. they gonna be stuck paying a bunch of money to some fallback plans.
2139808, I doubt this braintrust makes that mistake...
Posted by gmltheone, Fri Mar-01-13 02:51 PM
>philly aint getting any top tier FAs either. they gonna be
>stuck paying a bunch of money to some fallback plans.

If that were the case they would've made a desperation trade or two at the deadline.

Signing bynum locks us up salarywise. Letting him walk frees up that money. And going forward only jrue and thad make real money past next year. We could keep our flexibility and wait until 2014.

I really don't see the new group overpaying any of this season's second tier guys to big money.

Same as it ever was!
2139818, its a gang of post players coming out...
Posted by FromTheGo, Fri Mar-01-13 03:04 PM
I think they would be smart to go after one and spend up to 8-10 mill for Milsap or Jefferson or a David West type. Josh Smith wants too much.

Next season I'd they add to their post play and run Turner at the 2 more or just bring Korver back to shoot the 3 off the bench for a few mill, they will have Richardsons contract coming off or at least going to the last year and a gang of young players to trade.

Hell they could fuck around and get McLemore or Shabazz depending on how the balls fall.

2139849, Milsap and Al Jeff will get more...

If their agents don't walk in the door demanding kris humphries money they need to be murdered on the spot. I'm not kidding. Thanks to 'dem specs that's the bench mark now. So I could see both them getting 3/36 or 4/48 easily. Which puts them out of the sixers price range.

Same as it ever was!
2139810, maybe...but their worst contract is Richardson
Posted by FromTheGo, Fri Mar-01-13 02:54 PM
and their entire core makes less than Kobe and Gasol alone next season.

They don't need a max, they could go for Millsap or David West and Tyreke and still have money in the bank.

Tyreke in Philly might spark him

might not

2139791, Lakers got lucky, Philly is fucked, but it's pretty clear Lakers didn't
Posted by T Reynolds, Fri Mar-01-13 02:20 PM
MADE OUT made out

errr make out?

2139782, wow...feel bad about this....
Posted by Warren Coolidge, Fri Mar-01-13 02:12 PM
wanted to see him do well when he left...

guess the Lakes got lucky in moving him before all this...

think he should sit out the rest of the season and go to germany for that plasma injection thing and focus on coming back next year.
2139794, I could be wrong, but didn't he already go to Germany?
Posted by wallysmith, Fri Mar-01-13 02:24 PM
Bowling is a helluva drug.
2139797, He already had the platelet therapy done this past summer
Posted by LA2Philly, Fri Mar-01-13 02:25 PM
Didn't work for him
2139852, On sports radio they were saying he needs a cartilege
Posted by debo40oz, Fri Mar-01-13 04:12 PM
transplant. NOt sure what that is but it's another 6-8 month recovery.
2139784, "Sources?"
Posted by gmltheone, Fri Mar-01-13 02:15 PM
Somewhere Chris Broussard is smiling like shit.

He'll do a presser in the next day or so. Say the same things. Mumble some more about frustration. yadda yadda yadda. The season is toast. Maybe that's not a bad thing. They keep the pick this season and won't get bludgeoned by the heat in the first round with struggling to get in game shape.

He may get the kevin love treatment this season and play about 10-12 meaningless games to show something.

And oh yeah. Still make the trade.

Same as it ever was!
2139792, this is a nothing story started by Skip Bayless
Posted by Bombastic, Fri Mar-01-13 02:23 PM
I don't wanna sign Bynum because not only is he injury prone he also doesn't like the sport, exhibits zero professionalism & gives no fucks but will gladly take somebody for the money he will still get this offseason.

I'm ready to cut ties with this disaster.
2139806, So they're Brandon Roy bad?
Posted by Deebot, Fri Mar-01-13 02:49 PM
Like, retirement soon bad?
2139822, so the 6ers are officially in the dwight howard pipedream....
Posted by southphillyman, Fri Mar-01-13 03:11 PM
..josh smith consolation prize sweepstakes now?
probably
houston, philly (and who else?) are bout to be bidding against each other for B tier PFs
2139834, NOPE!

Let milsap, smith and AlJeff be somebody else's expensive third banana making max money.

2139847, I heard the Bucks wanted Smith

2139854, extra 30 mil + Lakers now showing chemistry + Mitch endorsement....
Posted by southphillyman, Fri Mar-01-13 04:15 PM
think it's a safe bet for Dwight to reup at this point
houston, philly, bucks and who ever else are going be left holding the L bag I think overpaying for one of those PFs
2139870, The Bucks are always holding a L bag
Posted by Deebot, Fri Mar-01-13 04:34 PM
they'll take some kind of an L.
2139836, It really shouldn't be a shock to anybody, if you watched his last couple...
Posted by ThaTruth, Fri Mar-01-13 03:41 PM
of years with the Lakers it was obvious he had nowhere near the same bounce and lift that he had before, for somebody that hadn't reached their 25th birthday that was pretty alarming to me.
2139886, I wanna say I feel bad for Socks. But I don't think dude really wants
Posted by El_essence, Fri Mar-01-13 05:06 PM
to play basketball forever. He's got bread, is smart enough to not fuck his money off and will be fine doing other shit.
2139896, he didn't want to play basketball in the first place
Posted by Bombastic, Fri Mar-01-13 05:49 PM
and everyone acting like he's not signing a long-term deal to fuck around & play sporadically this offseason is tripping, what Skip Bayless has to say means nothing.
2139906, oh if he's offered long term dough he's going to sign. I'm saying if
Posted by El_essence, Fri Mar-01-13 06:13 PM
he doesn't get a max contract and/or never plays more than half a season again, he's not going to feel bad at all.
2139913, agreed, he gettin paid tho, I'm just hoping it ain't us
Posted by Bombastic, Fri Mar-01-13 06:28 PM
loved the move but it really couldn't have gone any worse, only thing salvaging it will be the money saved & getting a lotto pick.
2139923, *resigns bynum, drafts nerlens noel*
