2138283, Bastradamas: Cataclysmic Civil War Ends The Empire of LeBronon
Posted by Basaglia, Wed Feb-27-13 10:45 AM
The End is Nigh...on OKS

The Jordanians, one of the founding factions of LeBronon, will grow agitated as their King's legend grows large enough that it begins to cast doubt on the divinity of their sacred Cheese God.

The True Witnesses will pressure the Jordanians to swear allegiance to the nation that took them in and gave them food and drink after their nation, so powerful IN THE GOTDAMN 1990s, wasted away due to age and really poor fashion choices. Not to mention their Cheese God's Great Speech of No Return that let everyone know he was a madman.

The Anti-Kobestanis will try to keep everyone's hate focused on their common enemy, but they will be the first to be annihilated, because they lack the will, commitment and honor of the other factions.

the wildcard, though, is that if bron goes on a title-winning tear and for all intents and purposes ends the bron/kobe debate, i could see huge swaths of kobestan joining the lebronon anti-jordanian coalition

and if bron went to the lakers in free agency? tha truth and bombastic; lb's finest and bshelly; united in tearing down the meunster mausoleum

Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats, living together! Mass hysteria!
2138363, 1. There is no Kobe/Lebron debate

Posted by thejerseytornado, Wed Feb-27-13 11:19 AM
Lacks the will to winguy?

this is interesting to think about. Jordan was somehow otherworldly in his charisma on-court--as a neutral, I wanted to watch jordan. he was mesmerizing.

Somehow, Lebron doesn't have that mesmerizing status. I don't know if it's just me (possibly), the nature of sports coverage now (also possible), that I'm less neutral as a celtics fan now than in the 90s when we weren't competitive, or that his game doesn't have the same charisma (also possible). It could be that Jordan was a novel character for me--the undisputed best player of his era and now I'm witnessing a replay of that type of undisputed dominance, but it's less interesting because I already experienced it once with Jordan. Or maybe he is a step below MJ.

It's only funny till someone gets mad. Then it's hilarious.
2138299, Another angle to think about...
Posted by Jayson Willyams, Wed Feb-27-13 11:27 AM
I was a young Knicks fan in the 90s, so Jordan was basically basketball's premier Super Villain. I rooted for the good guys, and he smacked them down time and time again with nefarious tactics and inhuman powers. So I experienced the Jordan era through a prism of wanting him to be killed Wile E. Coyote style by a falling piano.

It took me about half a season to get over Bron not coming to NY. Once that was over, I could just sit back and watch him with awe. Even when the Heat are knocking the Knicks out of the playoffs, I can't honestly say that I feel he's keeping my team from winning a title--they weren't winning a title whether they ran into Bron or not. So without the savage madness of a Bald-Headed Dr. Doom tearing the heads off my favorite action figures, I appreciate him more, but emotionally connect to it less.
2138369, Yeah, it doesn't help that Lebron is a dancing ass people pleaser nm.

And you are wrong...

The GOAT path has been Jordan/Iverson/Bron as far as players that changed the game of basketball

Kobestan has never been relevant and they are trying to use the longevity angle...

The younger the dudes on here are, the more influenced they are by that shit and the less of a connection they have with what passed. Shit, LBs "youtubed" Jordan's whole career and for a time he tried to make legit arguments between Kobes and Cheese. Imagine a cat ten years YOUNGER.

Hence why I wasn't remotely close to abandoning ship after he lost with Wade the first time. A title takes the right chemistry, the right efficiency, and the right combination of players.
2138434, agreed. Bron has miles to go to even see MJ

2138482, and by then kobe will have retired, the whole dynamic will change
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Feb-27-13 02:01 PM
i guess if there some jordan vs lebronon conflict to come, OK, maybe. that's a complement to lebron.

right now, shit is going good across the board. lakers experiment still a failure until further notce. lebron the kang until further notice. mike been retired a decade, still got kids shooting each other over his sneakers.

Jordanians leave LeBronon pretty soon after Kobe retires (especially if the Bulls stay relevant), but I actually think the Anti-Kobestan brigade sticks around. He's having a better prime than Kobe, but he still has to prove he'll have a better career, so the fight will continue for some time. That or they'll stick with Bron because Kobestan will seek temporary refuge in Durantsylvannia (or whatever it's called these days, it feels like we haven't discussed Durant in ages for some reason).
2138479, Yeah, there is an outright ethnic cleansing of Kobestan right now
Posted by ConcreteCharlie, Wed Feb-27-13 01:59 PM
2138601, poor durant.
Posted by Guinness, Wed Feb-27-13 04:26 PM
he's been incredible this season, but bron's elevation to god-body form and the heat's thrashing of OKC in the finals smothered out any noise of a growing "kev better" agenda. as it should have, since he's not.
2138966, RE: poor durant.

>it should have, since he's not.

yeah, in the most recent OKC-miami matchup espn half-heartedly tried to sell a "who's better?" storyline and i just laughed.

OKC itself just hasn't had a lot of press this year. it's too bad. the underwhelming finals performance and the "they shouldn't have let go harden" storyline have drowned out what is otherwise a great season.
2138972, Lebron better BUT
Posted by J_Stew, Wed Feb-27-13 11:59 PM
OKCs role players let them down, KD and dumb Russy balled as hard as LeBron and Wade in the finals.

...but yet, in these GOAT convos, you don't hear his name...

it's Bron and Jorn, for folks who aren't collecting social security checks yet

Kobe still gets mentioned with the greats

but when talking about the greatest of all time, his name is absent

Posted by Cocobrotha2, Fri Jun-01-18 03:59 AM
As great as Kobe was, his game was just too derivative of Jordan’s. Only way to surpass Jordan would’ve been to surpass all of his records accolades.

LeBron has his own lane so he can possibly do some things Jordan didn’t do, surpass Jordan in some ways and then try to substitute 8 straight finals for undefeated in 6 finals.
2660351, He is the morphing of Jorn and Bubba Chuck.

You can't really argue that he's not top 10-ish.

You can't really argue that he's top 3-ish.

#2 all time 2. His place is pretty settled and not really worth arguing about.

He's the 13th best player ever! Fuck you, he's the 8th best player ever! Who gives a shit.

Unlike Iverstania, Kobestania realized it was a losing battle and didn't move on as heavily into proxy wars.
