JJ Reddick worked himself into his current NBA status. He was labeled a bust not only after his first year, but probably his second as well... It wasn't until his third or fourth season that he started to really blossom as an NBA-level player.
He's a good prototype for why the NBA's rookie contract system has worked. A guy is under contract for a decent period, and it gives him a chance to develop as opposed to overpaying for potential right out the gate.
